Lana couldn’t help lowering her eyes.

The more she thought about it, the more uneasy she felt.

The girl standing in front of her looked nothing like the Jenny she rembered from her past life.

The Jenny she once knew had been confident., almost frighteningly so.

She had carried a sharp edge in her personality, soone who was both revengeful and vengeful at the sa ti.

Her attitude had always been cocky and indifferent, as if the world itself ant very little to her.

There were even tis when soone could die right in front of her, and Jenny would rely glance at the corpse with a bored expression before walking away.

But the Jenny standing before her now... This Jenny looked timid.

Her shoulders were slightly hunched, her hands clutched nervously at the edge of her sleeves, and even speaking seed to require courage.

She looked like soone who was afraid of making even the smallest decision.

’How can this be the sa person?’

Lana’s brows furrowed slightly.

’How could soone change this much... in just three years?’

Her thoughts continued to circle around that question.

Just as she was lost in those thoughts, the door slowly creaked open again.

Jenny stood there, her pale face half hidden behind the door as she looked at the group nervously.

"You... you can co in," she spoke softly. "The master of the house has allowed it."

The group stepped inside.

The mont they entered, they realized the house was far from shabby. In fact, it was quite spacious.

The interior resembled a modest but elegant villa. Soft lighting illuminated the marble floor, and neatly arranged furniture filled the hallways.

Soon they arrived at the living room.

There, sitting on a large sofa, was an old man with white hair and thin spectacles resting on the bridge of his nose.

However, he didn’t resemble the typical frail old man one might expect.

His posture was straight, his shoulders broad, and his arms looked toned beneath his clothing.

His body still carried the strength of soone who had trained for many years.

It almost looked as if he had practiced martial arts for most of his life.

When the group saw him, Monica stepped forward with a polite smile.

"Hello. I’m Monica."

The old man nodded slightly before replying calmly,

"My na is Daniel."

Monica shook his hand and began explaining their situation.

"Our car broke down halfway through the journey."

She continued speaking while gesturing lightly toward the others.

"Normally we would have simply hired another vehicle, but since this area is near a ghost zone, transportation services aren’t allowed to operate here."

Daniel listened quietly.

Monica continued,

"The only way we can get a replacent vehicle is by contacting headquarters and requesting a backup unit. Since it’s already night, we thought it would be unsafe to stay outside."

She smiled politely.

"So we were hoping you might allow us to stay here for the night."

Daniel leaned back slightly in his chair.

Then he gave a small smile.

"That won’t be a problem. You can stay here tonight."

Once everything had been settled, Lana casually glanced toward Jenny.

Then she pointed lightly in her direction. "Grandpa... who is she?"

Daniel followed Lana’s gaze and gave Jenny a brief indifferent look before turning back to Lana with a smile.

"Oh, her?"

He waved his hand dismissively.

"She’s just the daughter of one of the maids."

The mont those words left his mouth, Lana slowly narrowed her eyes.

Then she chuckled softly. "Wow... a maid’s daughter?"

Her voice carried a faint trace of sarcasm. "And yet she looks so malnourished."

She tilted her head slightly while glancing at Jenny again.

"Does that an the maid who works here is mistreating her own child?"

The entire room suddenly fell silent.

Everyone turned to look at Lana.

Monica in particular looked extrely surprised.

She knew Lana well enough to understand her personality. Normally Lana never interfered in other people’s affairs.

As long as she gathered the information she needed, she would simply ignore everything else.

But this was the first ti Monica had seen her behave like this.

So openly sarcastic.

So openly confrontational.

Daniel’s smile slowly faded as he turned his gaze toward Lana.

"And who might you be?"

His tone remained polite, but there was a hidden warning beneath it.

"What is your na?"

The aning behind his words was clear.

If Lana’s status wasn’t high enough, she should remain silent.

After all, the only reason Daniel had allowed Monica and her team into his house was because he wanted to do the police station a favor.

He had recently heard that Monica’s team had been making waves in the news.

Their reputation was steadily growing, and their influence was increasing rapidly.

Building a connection with them would certainly benefit him in the future.

People like Daniel, who lived in the suburbs, understood very well how valuable such connections could be.

But who would have expected that one little girl among them would dare question him like this?

However, Daniel had clearly underestimated Lana.

Because Lana suddenly grinned brightly.

"Grandpa, my na is Lana."

The mont those words ca out of her mouth, Daniel’s expression stiffened slightly.

"Grandpa?"

His eyebrow twitched faintly.

Even Monica looked stunned.

But Lana continued speaking as if nothing had happened.

"Grandpa, you still haven’t answered my question."

She pointed at Jenny again.

"Why are her parents mistreating her?"

Jenny stood frozen near the door.

Her eyes widened in shock as she stared at Lana.

’Who... is this girl?’

Jenny felt both stunned and terrified.

This girl had the courage of a tiger.

How could she stand there and challenge soone like Daniel so casually?

Daniel was nothing short of a monster.

Even though Jenny was biologically related to him, she still felt a deep fear whenever she stood near him.

Daniel’s fingers slowly clenched into a fist.

Then he spoke coldly, "Her na is Jenny. Jenny’s mother is dead."

Hearing those words, Lana simply nodded. "I see."
