Before Jenny could react, Lana gently pushed the door open and stepped inside.

Jenny instinctively stepped aside. Once inside, Lana slowly looked around the room.

Her eyes gradually darkened. There wasn’t even a proper bed.

In one corner stood an old wooden chest.

On the ground lay a pile of dry wheat stalks arranged crudely to serve as a sleeping place.

There were no rugs. No proper blanket. No furniture.

The cold concrete floor was exposed, and the damp air made the room feel even more miserable.

It looked less like a bedroom and more like a storage space ant for animals.

Lana slowly turned around.

Jenny had already closed the door behind her and stood there nervously, watching Lana with guarded eyes.

Lana looked directly at her.

"What exactly are you so afraid of?"

Her voice was calm but sharp.

"What is it that makes you too scared to even raise your voice against your own grandfather?"

Jenny lowered her gaze. Her fingers trembled slightly.

"It’s nothing," she muttered.

Then she forced herself to speak louder. "I’m not being blackmailed. You’re misunderstanding my grandfather."

But before she could continue, Lana suddenly raised her hand. "Stop."

Her tone turned cold. "I’m not here to listen to that kind of nonsense."

Her eyes locked onto Jenny. "If you keep lying to ..."

Her voice lowered slightly.

"I’ll have to use a more forceful thod."

A faint chill spread through the room.

"And when that happens... you might get hurt too."

Jenny looked up at her.

This ti there was a trace of hatred in her eyes.

"Why are you so obsessed with helping ?"

Her voice rose slightly, though it still sounded like an angry whisper. "I don’t need your help!"

Her breathing grew uneven. "Don’t you understand?"

Her eyes trembled. "My reputation will be destroyed."

She clenched her fists tightly. "I’ll end up in prison if you helped ..."

Her voice suddenly faltered.

Lana’s eyes narrowed. "What do you an?"

Jenny shook her head quickly. "It’s nothing."

Her voice sounded weak again. "You should just leave."

But Lana didn’t move at all.

Instead she chuckled softly. "Do you really think you can survive like this?"

Jenny remained silent.

Lana continued calmly.

"In the future, your grandfather will keep using you to make dirty deals."

Her eyes grew sharp.

"Whatever leverage he has over you... he’ll use it again and again."

Jenny slowly lowered her gaze.

Lana stepped closer. "If you keep letting people bully you..."

Her voice softened slightly. "You’ll be bullied until the day you die."

She stared directly at Jenny. "Is that what you want?"

Jenny looked up.

Her eyes were already glistening with tears.

"You don’t understand anything!"

Her voice trembled.

"If you understood... you would never say things like that."

Lana watched her quietly. "Then trust once."

Jenny frowned. "Why?"

Her voice carried suspicion. "Why should I trust you?"

She took a step back. "You’re no one to ."

Her eyes darkened with doubt.

"How do I know you won’t betray like everyone else?"

Lana chuckled softly. "Because I am in better position than you."

She casually took out her identity card and held it up. "You see this?"

Jenny glanced at it. "I’m a student at a top university."

Lana shrugged lightly. "I have a bright future ahead of ."

She spoke calmly. "My net worth already reaches millions."

Then she smiled slightly. "So tell ..."

"What would I gain from ruining soone like you?"

Jenny lowered her eyes again.

The room fell silent.

After a long mont, she finally spoke. "I killed soone."

Lana froze.

Jenny continued quietly. "In a mont of anger..."

Her voice trembled. "I killed my grandfather’s mistress."

Lana stared at her for a few seconds before gesturing for her to continue.

Jenny blinked in confusion. "You... want to keep talking? Aren’t you scared?"

Lana suddenly burst into laughter.

Her laughter echoed strangely inside the cramped room.

For a mont Jenny felt a chill run down her spine.

’Did I trust the wrong person...?’

But the next second Lana stopped laughing.

She looked straight at Jenny. "This..."

Her eyes glead faintly. "This is the Jenny I know."

Jenny’s eyes widened. "What do you an?"

Lana took a slow breath before answering calmly.

"You might not believe this..."

Her voice softened slightly. "But I ca from the future."

She looked directly into Jenny’s eyes.

"And I know the Jenny from that future."

Jenny frowned deeply.

Her expression turned suspicious. ’This sounds like so kind of scam...’

But before she could speak, Lana raised her hand. "Don’t stop."

Her voice was firm. "We don’t have much ti."

Jenny sighed quietly.

After a mont, she clenched her fists.

’Fine... I’ll trust her once.’

And so she began telling the truth.

The truth she had buried deep inside her heart.

It turned out Jenny’s mother had been the illegitimate daughter-in-law of this family.

Jenny’s father had died many years ago.

After that, Jenny and her mother had been left completely at the rcy of her grandfather.

For a long ti, her grandfather had harassed Jenny’s mother.

At first it had been subtle.

But eventually... it beca sothing far worse.

He had even attempted to molest her multiple tis.

Jenny’s mother had been terrified. She wanted to run away.

But she had nowhere to go. She was an orphan.

She had no relatives, no ho, and no one willing to shelter her.

In the end, desperation forced her into a terrible decision.

To escape the nightmare...

She chose to accuse soone else of wrongdoing, even though she knew that doing so might destroy her own innocence forever.

Jenny slowly lowered her head before continuing.

"My mother..."

Her voice trembled slightly, but she forced herself to speak.

"She often kept close to her."

Her fingers tightened unconsciously around the sleeve of her worn clothes.

"Whenever she moved around the house, she made sure I was always beside her."

Lana listened silently, her gaze steady.
