"Yes, Leader. Three of them. They weren’t moving with the Sentinels. Instead, they stayed farther back, positioned on the rubble and the tower itself. Ahhh--They just slipped away. They’re behind that ruined building..." Russel said as he pointed to one of the buildings about 200 ters away from the Field Tyrant!
It ans that their weapon range was roughly this distance.
"Each one’s equipped with a long-barreled weapon. Looked like rifles built into their fras. They’re covering the Tyrant from that range... This is just like what you’ve imagined, Leader." Russel muttered as he looked at Kai with reverence.
Apparently, during their strategy etings, Kai already planned sothing for this type of situation. He even thought that there could be more than ten Spyder Rangers, but thankfully, there were only three of them! This should be doable!
Kai gently nodded as he heard this...
That explained the formation of the enemy’s defense. The nine Sentinels ford the close escort, circling the Tyrant like bodyguards, while the three Spyders acted as overwatch, scanning the horizon and locking down any approach with suppressive fire.
Victor muttered, "I guess they’re A.I. Army for a reason. They’re not just brute force. They’ve set up a proper formation..."
Claire nodded. "If we rush in without any plans, the Sentinels will pin us down, and the Spyders will pick us off before we even reach the Tyrant."
Kai took a slow breath, studying the ruined cell tower. Then, he looked at the Field Tyrant that was six ters tall...
It was within his considerations.
’We can do this... We just need to stick to the plan and act accordingly...’
Crash~
Suddenly, they watched as the Field Tyrant’s claw gripped one of the broken cars and began crushing it.
This confused everyone as it seed as if the Field Tyrant was playing. After all, it shouldn’t have any purpose for doing this...
Nonetheless, they stayed quiet as they watched the tal fra of the car shriek under the pressure. Then, the windows started shattering, and soon, they heard the steel folding in on itself like paper. With a final squeeze, the vehicle was reduced to a mangled cube of twisted panels and broken axles.
Then, with a grinding hiss, the chest of the Field Tyrant split open. Plates slid apart to reveal a furnace-like cavity glowing with a dull, orange light!
The claw lifted the compressed wreckage and shoved it inside.
The survivors froze, horrified by what they had just witnessed.
"What the hell...?" Victor whispered as he didn’t expect this scene at all.
Inside the cavity, chanical arms seized the crushed car, dragging it deeper into the furnace. Sparks erupted as the cube scraped against the gears. A roar of fla followed, licking across the tal.
The car’s remains glowed red, then white, as the heat devoured it.
Claire’s eyes widened. "It’s... burning it. Like fuel."
The group watched in disbelief as the cube began to disintegrate.
The furnace’s inner walls pulsed, and the vents opened to draw in the heat and vapor. It was such an intriguing sight!
Russel swallowed hard.
Victor whispered, "It’s feeding itself... turning scrap into energy. That furnace... I think it’s similar to the ones in the boiler room."
"What?" Kai’s eyes widened.
It was the sa for Ralph and the others as their eyes widened.
Kai rembered the mysterious boiler room of Haven‑45. It was in the hidden chamber that had kept the shelter alive for years.
At that ti, it wasn’t just wood or waste and other materials that fueled it. Even the corpses of fallen mbers had been carried there, their bodies consud by the furnace to keep the shelter running.
Kai had always found the place interesting because of that strange thod.
Russel and others had also once told him that the furnace itself hadn’t been built by the survivors. It had co from an A.I. base long ago, salvaged and installed by the original founders of Haven‑45.
Kai had never visited the boiler room himself, but he had heard enough stories to know its importance.
Previously, he had intended to see it for himself, but the chance never ca. Duties kept him busy, and the heat inside was said to be suffocating. He thought there would be ti later since he planned to make the Haven-45 his base...
Unfortunately, the ch Siege’s bombardnt had destroyed much of Haven‑45, and among the losses was the boiler room itself.
Now, hearing Victor’s words and watching the Field Tyrant consu wreckage, Kai felt a chill. The resemblance was undeniable, not because he had seen the boiler with his own eyes, but because the stories matched perfectly.
The sa technology that had sustained Haven‑45 was actually from a Field Tyrant or similar enemy units!
"Interesting... Maybe that furnace can also be used to power up our shelter?" Claire muttered.
"That would be great. We need electricity too..." Ralph said.
"Yes... I’m also worried that Atom might stop functioning really soon." Kai said as this was certainly one of his main concerns.
He had no idea about Atom’s operation ti!
Crash!
Soon, another car was destroyed and was dissolved by the furnace...
Still, they continued to watch as they needed to gather information about their target.
Then, they watched as the Field Tyrant started moving faster... It no longer had stiff movents like before...
For so reason, the entire ch seed to shudder with renewed vigor, its uneven steps were actually stabilizing slightly.
Kai’s jaw tightened. "So that’s how it sustains itself... scavenging machines, consuming them like fuel."
The survivors exchanged uneasy glances. The realization was chilling... the ruins around them weren’t just debris. They were resources, waiting to be devoured by this chanical predator.
Ralph clenched his fists. "If it can keep feeding like that... It’ll keep growing stronger."
"No way... There must be a limit, right? It’s just a machine..." Victor imdiately said.
Kai frowned as he looked behind him
"I don’t think we can wait anymore... We’ve seen enough... We should begin the subjugation before things get out of control."
