Chapter 3: Squeezing into Su Qingge's Overcoat...
Jiang Chen was stunned by the words. Indeed, while eating, the rising steam had masked it, but now that he had set down his chopsticks, a bone-chilling cold was creeping up his pant legs.
He got up to pull the door, only to find a gust of cold wind howling in through the gap.
"Attention, all passengers. Due to the train passing through the Qinling Mountain range, we have encountered extre blizzard weather. The heating equipnt has suddenly malfunctioned and is currently undergoing ergency repairs..."
The conductor's apologetic voice ca over the loudspeaker.
Almost simultaneously, the lights on the ceiling flickered twice, then with a 'pop,' half of them went out, leaving only the dim, faint glow of the ergency lights.
The once warm soft sleeper compartnt instantly turned into an ice cellar.
"What's going on? The heat is off?" Chen Man shivered, hugging her arms. She was wearing the least out of everyone in the room—just a thin cardigan over a tight slip dress. "This is going to freeze us to death, isn't it?"
Lin Wan quickly wrapped her wool sweater tighter around herself, her face turning pale. "If this train stops in the mountains, it must be below minus ten degrees Celsius tonight, right?"
Su Qingge frowned deeply and instinctively reached for her trench coat, but that kind of professional attire offered no real protection against the cold.
Just then, a heavenly electronic chi sounded in Jiang Chen's mind again.
[Ding! Mission Issued!]
[Mission Description: Winter is coming. How can you let several peerless beauties tremble in the cold wind? The Host must imdiately resolve the heating issue in the compartnt.]
[Mission Requirent: Spending amount must not be less than 2000 Yuan.]
[Mission Deadline: 20 minutes.]
Jiang Chen was secretly delighted.
He had just been worrying about how to spend money, and here was the perfect opportunity!
"Sisters, please wait a mont. I'll go think of a way." Without another word, Jiang Chen grabbed his jacket and headed out.
"Hey! Where are you going?" Chen Man called out. "It's even colder outside!"
"I'm going to get so heating supplies."
Jiang Chen pushed the door open.
The hallway was already in chaos. Many passengers wrapped in blankets were coming out to curse, while the train staff looked utterly overwheld.
Jiang Chen walked straight to the attendant he had seen before.
"Attendant Sister, do you have any thick quilts? Or perhaps an electric heater?" Jiang Chen got straight to the point.
The Attendant Sister rubbed her hands together, shivering, and gave a wry smile. "Young man, where would we have extra quilts? The train is full, and the few spares were snatched up long ago. Forget about electric heaters; the circuits can't handle the load."
"Isn't there any other way? Like equipnt from your staff rest area?"
Jiang Chen stepped closer and lowered his voice. "I'll pay a high price."
The Attendant Sister paused, looking at Jiang Chen's determined eyes. She hesitated. "We only have a few military greatcoats, and so rechargeable hot water bags. Those are for our own use..."
"I'll take them all," Jiang Chen said.
He pulled out his credit card and tapped it in his hand. "A thousand Yuan for each coat, five hundred for each hot water bag. I have three friends who aren't well and can't stand the cold. Please help out, Attendant Sister."
The Attendant Sister's eyes nearly popped out.
That shabby military greatcoat only cost about a hundred Yuan at the labor protection store. This young man was offering ten tis the price?
"This... this isn't according to regulations..."
"Five thousand. Pack up three coats and three fully charged hot water bags." Jiang Chen's tone was calm. "Swipe the card, now."
There was nothing money couldn't solve. If there was, it just ant he hadn't offered enough money.
Five minutes later.
Jiang Chen returned to the compartnt carrying three heavy, shiny green military greatcoats and three scorching hot water bags tucked into his chest, looking like a black-market vendor peddling supplies.
By this ti, the three won in the compartnt were huddled together from the cold.
"Co on, put these on."
Jiang Chen tossed the military greatcoats onto the bed. That heavy feeling, mixed with the scent of mothballs, felt incredibly comforting in the freezing wind.
"Military greatcoats?" Chen Man's eyes widened, then she burst out laughing. "Little brother, are you asking us to go perform Northeast folk opera?"
Though her words were dismissive, her actions were honest.
She snatched one up and imdiately wrapped it around herself. The thick cotton instantly locked in her body heat, and Chen Man let out a comfortable hum. "Mmm... I'm alive again."
Su Qingge and Lin Wan also dropped their reservations. At a ti like this, survival was paramount; image didn't matter.
The three usually glamorous urban beauties were now each wrapped in a military greatcoat that was even slightly worn, cradling hot water bags. The scene held an indescribable mix of absurdity and... cuteness.
[Ding! Mission Complete!]
[Host spent 5000 Yuan, triggering an 8x critical cashback!]
[40,000 Yuan has been deposited into your bank account.]
Hearing that crisp notification, Jiang Chen felt warr than the hot water bags in his arms.
"Xiao Jiang, what about you?" Lin Wan suddenly noticed that Jiang Chen was only wearing a thin jacket; he had given all three coats to them.
"I'm not cold. Young n have strong vitality," Jiang Chen replied with a smile, rubbing his hands as he sat back down on his berth.
"Don't pretend to be tough."
Su Qingge suddenly spoke. Her voice was still cool, but her movent was quite assertive.
She shifted inward and lifted the corner of her military greatcoat, revealing the black professional skirt underneath and a glimpse of heart-stopping black silk stockings on her long legs.
"Co here, squeeze in."
Jiang Chen froze. "Huh?"
"What 'huh'? If you catch a cold, who will take care of us?" Su Qingge glared at him. Although she was rebuking him, it was incredibly alluring. "This is an order."
Chen Man poked her head down from the upper bunk and whistled. "Ooh, Sister Su is trying to 'recruit a bedmate'? Little brother, aren't you going to thank her quickly?"
Jiang Chen's throat felt dry.
This was Su Qingge!
The ice-mountain-like, aloof female CEO was actually asking him to... squeeze into her coat?
"What are you dawdling for?" Su Qingge seed slightly embarrassed too. She reached out and grabbed Jiang Chen's wrist.
In that instant, Jiang Chen felt his wrist being held by a piece of warm, smooth jade.
He was yanked forward, stumbling, and half his body was forced close to Su Qingge.
A pleasant, cool fragrance mixed with the scent of the military greatcoat's cotton instantly filled his nostrils.
"Sit properly, don't move around."
Su Qingge wrapped the coat around both their knees. The coat was very large and enough to cover both their legs.
In the darkness, the outer side of Jiang Chen's thigh inevitably pressed against the side of Su Qingge's leg, which was encased in black silk.
That smooth, warm sensation felt like an electric current shooting straight to the crown of his head from the point of contact.
Jiang Chen's body instantly stiffened.
Su Qingge clearly felt it too; her body trembled slightly, but she didn't pull away. Instead, she pushed the hot water bag into Jiang Chen's hand.
"Hold this, warm your hands."
Her voice was low, and in the dim carriage, it carried a barely perceptible tremor.
"Thank you... Sister Su."
Jiang Chen took a deep breath, trying hard to suppress the turmoil in his heart.
Just then, the train car suddenly shook violently, as if an ergency brake had been applied.
"Ah!"
Chen Man on the upper bunk cried out in alarm. She hadn't held on tight and slid right off the safety rail!
"Careful!"
Jiang Chen reacted quickly, thrusting his other hand out to catch her.
