Chapter 882 – Damaged, But Not Broken

Yue looked back once.

Lux lifted two fingers in a casual farewell.

She didn’t smile fully.

But her eyes softened.

And yeah.

There it was again.

That annoying warmth in his chest.

He was going to need a diagnosis soon.

The girls left in a storm of silk, perfu, teasing voices, and enough latent power to make any unlucky mugger reconsider his life philosophy and possibly beco a monk. The door closed. The mansion quieted by three emotional decibels.

Lux exhaled.

Finally.

Peace.

For approximately six seconds.

"System," he said, walking toward the inner hall. "Send an invitation to Fiera. Casual party tonight. Mansion. No formal dress. Tell her she can bring one guest, but not the cousin if she plans to create problems."

[ssage drafted. Tone: friendly, inviting, mildly threatening toward troubleso relatives.]

Lux paused mid-step.

"...Remove mildly threatening."

[Revising.]

A beat.

[ssage sent. Threat retained in subtext.]

Lux sighed. "Good enough."

He loosened his collar as he walked deeper into the mansion. No etings. No dragons. No Kaelmor in his face. No ancient elders trying to convert Hell’s economy into a clan investnt portfolio. Just him, a quiet afternoon, and maybe enough ti to pretend his life wasn’t an active disaster shaped like a luxury romance novel with war cris in the footnotes.

So he went to the pool.

The mansion’s pool sat in an open courtyard frad by pale stone, black marble, and tropical plants trimd with demonic precision. Sunlight spilled across the water, turning the surface into liquid glass. A shaded lounge waited nearby with fruit arranged on crystal plates, chilled juice sweating in tall glasses, and a towel so soft it probably had generational wealth.

Lux changed into swimwear without ceremony and slipped into the pool.

Cool water closed around him.

For a mont, everything went quiet.

He pushed off the edge and swam slow laps, letting his body move without strategy. Stroke. Breath. Turn. Water trailing over his shoulders. Muscles stretching. The rhythm was simple, repetitive, almost cleansing. It wasn’t that he was tired. Incubus stamina did not exactly run on mortal logic. But ntal noise? That accumulated. Deals. Lies. Won. Kings. Dragons. Abyss Lords. Coffee shortages. Horrors, all of them.

He surfaced near the edge, slicked his hair back, and rested both arms on the stone.

The mansion was quiet around him.

Too quiet.

He lifted his hand.

"System. Financial report."

A translucent black-gold screen blood above the water.

[Greed Domain Financial Report]

[Morning Session Revenue: 7.8%]

[Contract Volu: 12.3%]

[Liquidity Reserves: Stable]

[Public Trust Index: 4.1%]

[Investor Confidence: High]

[Risk Exposure: Moderate]

[Primary Growth Driver: Royal Instability Arbitrage]

Lux stared.

Then slowly reached for his juice.

"...Royal instability arbitrage," he muttered. "That sounds like sothing I’d put on a villain resu."

[It is currently performing well, sir.]

He took a sip.

Cold. Sweet. Mango with sothing citrusy underneath.

Good.

Not coffee, but emotionally acceptable.

"Show InfernalNet narrative spread."

The financial panel slid aside, replaced by a crawling map of black-red data streams. Rumor nodes pulsed across Hell’s undernet, threads connecting noble houses, abyss communities, rcenary forums, political salons, anonymous curse markets, and at least four gossip circles dedicated to royal scandals.

[Primary Narrative: "An Unbound Abyss Sovereign Slaughtered the Crown’s Hounds in the Mortal Realm"]

[Acceptance Rate: 47%]

[Skepticism Rate: 31%]

[Opportunistic Amplification: 22%]

[Secondary Narrative: "Kaelmor’s Power Is Borrowed From Bound Ancient Entities"]

[Acceptance Rate: 38%]

[Speculation Growth: Rapid]

[Royal Denial Activity: Increasing]

Lux’s gaze sharpened.

Royal denial.

There it was.

He flicked a finger.

"Open stream."

A live projection unfolded above the pool.

Kaelmor appeared on screen.

Lux went still.

The King of Hell stood before a grand hall of black stone and red fire, dressed immaculately, smile in place. Charming. Calm. Horrifying. Exactly the kind of man who looked like he could complint your wine selection while deciding which of your descendants would vanish first. Behind him, royal banners hung untouched. Guards stood in perfect formation. Too perfect.

He was staging strength.

Lux floated in the pool, one arm over the edge, juice in hand, watching like this was afternoon entertainnt.

Kaelmor spoke smoothly to the gathered infernal press, his voice pleasant, controlled, almost warm.

Lux couldn’t hear the exact words at first, so he gestured.

"Audio."

The sound sharpened.

"—minor disturbances exaggerated by malicious actors," Kaelmor was saying. "The crown remains steady. Hell remains united. Rumors, as always, reveal more about the fear of our enemies than the truth of our throne."

Lux’s lips curved faintly.

Nice line.

Annoying.

But nice.

Kaelmor continued, smile never faltering. "Attempts on my life are not new. Ambition is common in Hell. Competence, regrettably, is rare."

Lux snorted into his juice.

"Okay, that one was good."

[Would you like to archive that insult for later use, sir?]

"Yes."

[Archived under: Royal Sass, Potentially Recyclable.]

Kaelmor’s speech continued. He denied weakness. Denied internal leakage. Denied royal stock concerns without directly naming the market. Smart. Don’t give the dip more oxygen. But Lux saw the problem imdiately.

The conference was too polished.

Too controlled.

Too obviously designed.

And Hell loved theater, yes, but Hell also knew when theater slled like panic wearing perfu.

The comnt stream beside the broadcast exploded.

[Demon666: If nothing happened, why address it?]

[MarketGoblin: Royal Authority Index still bleeding.]

[ShadowBroker88: Who leaked the binding archive?]

[AbyssWatcher: Abyss Lords are moving. This is not normal.]

[SinfulTrader: King smiles too much when angry.]

[EnvyInvestor: Buy Envy.]

[HellStreetWolf: Sell Royal.]

Lux sipped his juice again.

"What do you think about this,System?"

[Analysis: The conference is technically competent, visually controlled, and strategically insufficient.]

Lux smiled. "Explain."

[Kaelmor is attempting reassurance through dominance signaling. Unfortunately, the market is responding to information asymtry, not emotional comfort. His appearance confirms pressure exists. His denial confirms the rumor reached him. His calm confirms he is angry.]

Lux rested his chin on his wrist, watching Kaelmor’s smile hold steady on screen.

"And public trust?"

[Damaged, but not broken.]

"Can he recover?"

[Yes.]

A pause.

[If left alone.]

Lux’s smile widened a fraction.

There it was.

If left alone.
