The seed was about two inches long and oval shaped with spikes all over it's brown outside. If you were to split the seed in half the inside would be purple with two "beans" into middle.
"Does the plant live in close proximity to herbivores?" Sprout asked as she pressed the hard spikes of the seed testingly.
"Quite a few yes." I said honestly.
"I thought so. Plants develop defensive asures on their seeds when they are under threat from things eating them. You just leave this little curiosity with and I'll give you a copy of my notes on how to best grow it later okay dear?" she asked and I nodded.
"That works out perfectly. Fair warning though the mature plant is rather on the large side so you'll need a large pot if you don't want to transfer it later." I said before excusing myself.
I headed for the common room after that while idly noting the thunderbirds crying out from the forbidden forest. If I had to guess they were resting there before they migrated back to Arica. It wasn't exactly a short trip so it made sense they'd need so ti to recover before they could make it again. -
When I finally got to the common room I plopped down on the sofa next to Terry.
"Oh hey, what'd you need to see Professor Sprout for?" he asked curiously as he set his unfinished herbology howork aside.
"Have so seeds from one of my business contacts that I wasn't sure about the best way to grow. I left one with her in exchange for her notes on it after she grows it." I said with a shrug.
"Business contacts?" Mike asked with a confused expression.
"Haven't I ntioned my aspiration to being a rchant? I've already started to set up a network of contacts to that end. " I said proudly.
"Really? What kind of stuff do you get from them?" Terry asked intrigued.
"Dinosaur eggs, weapons, gold, jewels, magical fruits, special plant seeds and other stuff too." I said with a grin.
"Dinosaur eggs?" Terry said incredulous.
"Yeah, traded a Pulmonoscorpius egg away to that wizard who was with the professors. Currently I still have a Dimorphodon egg and and a Raptor egg under stasis charm until I find a good buyer for them. Was thinking about approaching Hagrid since rumor has it he's obsessed with beasts." I said casually.
"You have to show us!" Mike said eagerly.
"I an I can but no touching. Don't want to have to get a replacent egg just because one of you dropped the one I have." I said firmly.
"Aw co on it's a dinosaur egg though! You can't just show us sothing like that and not expect us to want to touch it!" Terry complained.
"I don't want to hear it, these things are extrely valuable. Still stay here so I can go grab them from my hiding spot." I said before getting up.
Naturally I did in fact go to my room but once there I checked for hidden presences before buying a rather special suitcase from the system shop for three thousand coins, [Newt Scamander's starter suitcase]. I had honestly planned to get sothing like this eventually anyways as I needed to have an excuse about where all of my stuff was getting stashed and this would definitely count. The best part was that hiding a suitcase would be much easier to explain than if I made my trunk vanish instead.-
The reason the suitcase was so cheap was because it was at it's most basic state rather than that monstrous "world within" state Newts current suitcase had going on. THAT suitcase had a price tag of three hundred thousand coins. This one had an internal space of a thousand square feet that was temperature controlled and could even simulate weather if need be. Not that I had any intention of using it for that purpose. Instead I set the suitcase on the ground and took out the two eggs I needed and set them on my bed before leaving my room to grab Terry and Mike.-
"They don't look very impressive." Mike said when he looked at the eggs carefully.
"Of course not, most eggs don't look very impressive. The big one is the Raptor egg and the little one the Dimorphodon." I said pointing at each one.
"Why those dinosaurs in particular anyways?" Terry asked as he poked the Raptor egg.
"Resale value mostly. Both are at eaters but small enough that they aren't all that expensive to care for and both have utility to them. Raptors are large, fast and strong enough that they make good mounts. They are also pack animals so the person who raised them won't ever have to worry about them turning on them so long as the things are well taken care of. Dimorphodon's on the other side of things are more like parrots or owls. They are small and can be treated as pets with rather sharp teeth more or less since they don't attack things bigger than them unless provoked." I explained calmly.
"Having a pet Dimorphodon sounds wicked!" Terry said staring at the small egg eagerly.
"Best if you wait until you graduate before even thinking about it. The things are still predators so unless you want to be explaining why your pet ate soone's cat or owl it's better not to risk it. The less said about Raptors that are verified man eaters the better." I said seriously.
