"They eat people!?" Terry exclaid in horror as he backed away from the egg.
"Of course they do. As far as they are concerned we are nothing more than a different type of at. Well unless trained properly that is. Most predators of a certain size see us the sa way." I said with a shrug.
"I can't even be excited about the eggs anymore. It's not fun knowing they'd try to eat ." Mike said with a frown.
I shrugged "Facts are facts, nothing I can do about it." I said casually.
"You said you had other things right?" Terry asked and I nodded.
"A sword, a fruit and so extra seeds at the mont. It's not much but I'm a bit picky about what I stock." I said leaving out the ability stones.
"That's a weird combination." Mike said with an odd look.
I shrugged "It is what it is." I said unbothered.
They didn't want to see the other stuff since it sounded boring and went off to complete their howork. I calmly sent the two eggs back to my inventory since it wouldn't be good if they spoiled or even worse hatched. -
I joined them on working on howork after that and we finished up an hour and a half before dinner ti. For that whole ti I snatched up a thin to from the community library about arithmancy. It was a study I knew would be quite important later and was more than happy to delve into early. To the more simple minded the subject would be classified as pure math and technically they'd be right. The trick however was it was actually used for calculating various magical ans like rituals, spells and even the future.-
That last bit might sound like it crosses over into divination territory but it really didn't. Arithmancy could indeed predict the future to a degree but unlike divination these predictions were more often than not wrong for the smallest most inconsequential reasons. The art used math to account for variables and individuals involved so the more variables there were to keep track of the harder the chance of getting it right. A good example of this was the difference between finding out the seating order of the professors class before it happened and who would win the quidditch cup at the end of the year.-
The forr had very few variables to consider since the professor has the list of students to begin with. The latter however was so full of variables that it might only be able to account for them all AFTER the quidditch cup was handed out. Naturally that was the most inefficient use of the art but that was how it worked. It was also why the art was key to spell crafting, rituals and even potions to a degree. It took the randomness of wild magic testing away and gave it clear order.-
All that said however it was still math in the end and just this very basic introductory prir for the subject had my head throbbing by dinner ti. I had to admit that it was kinda ironic that the mathematics of the wizarding world were advanced enough to predict the future while muggle societies math was leagues behind that point yet the wizarding world was the backwards ones here. I didn't plan to try and change this either as honestly there wasn't any real problems with it beyond the inevitable reveal of the magical world to the muggles.-
Sure the magical society was stuck way behind the muggle one but it was still a fully functioning system that just needed a slight tweak to even things out between muggleborn and pureblood wizards to be nearly perfect. I shook my head to clear away those thoughts and we headed for dinner. The pizza made a return to the table along with the before requested fish and chips that I helped myself to. It wasn't anything special as it was just fried cod fillets and potatoes with salt but I was glad for the variety it added all the sa.-
For desert there was a nice crè brulee that only a few people touched since they didn't recognize it. After dinner unlike every other day my peers and I headed for the astronomy tower to attend the class it was nad after. The tower was almost empty with a staircase going to it's top that had an overhead canopy but otherwise was wide open. There were telescopes set to look right at specific parts of the sky and a few charts on boards of the stars above. The class lesson wasn't really even a lesson so much as Professor Sinistra telling us to use our telescopes to stare at the sky and identify as many constellations as we could.-
The class ran until ten and we all finally headed to our common rooms to turn in for the night. There was no howork for this class which was nice. The next morning we had Charms and history again. The lesson was on the levitation charm this ti since Flitwick thought we could finally move forward from the wand lighting charm since most of us could pull it off easily now. This particular spell was perfect for showing off but I stuck to simply floating the feather up.-
Hermione was a tick behind in doing the sa so even if we both earned five points for our houses she frowned slightly. Naturally I helped out those around with the interaction between Daphne and I being especially funny. As it turned out the reason I hadn't heard back from her about the fruit trade was because she had fallen into the house separation mindset. A ridiculous reason to get in the way of business in my opinion, sothing I said too.
