Chapter 2247: Chapter 468: A Special Guest (Part 1)

Creak, creak.

It’s the sound of the pumpkin carriage slowly departing.

Zheng Qing adjusted the soft brim of his pointed wizard hat, discreetly scanning around. As expected, there were plenty of sneaky glances. But beyond those furtive looks, a strange and malicious atmosphere pervaded, making the young funded student feel an urge to flee imdiately.

However, when he turned around, the pumpkin carriage from Greenhill Mansion had already disappeared without a trace, leaving nothing but the thick night behind.

The stiff formal wear felt like iron sheets, heavy and icy, weighing on him, as if wrapped in shackles from inside out. Fortunately, the soft brim of the wizard hat with its undulating lines could filter many prying eyes and also hide his own gaze, preventing contact with others’ eyes.

“Think positively, you’ve already bought accident insurance and been blown up once… things can’t get worse,” the young funded student thought, both sadly and resolutely.

For a mont, he deeply regretted excessively worrying about ‘transformation aftereffects’ everyday. So much so that when everyone was glancing at him and whispering, he couldn’t hear what they were discussing.

The boy forced himself to focus on the witches’ beautiful dresses and the music flowing in the night.

It was easy to see that each witch wore her confidence as if she were a princess, reserved yet proud. The long skirts flowed like water under the influence of magic, existing without dragging even without the assistance of servants.

“Do you plan to stand here and be the talk of others?”

A familiar voice rang in his ears.

Zheng Qing turned around abruptly, it was Dylan. He wore an old-fashioned suit and a hard-brimd hat, completely out of place with the surroundings — in this regard, he and Zheng Qing were very much alike.

“Dylan?”

The young funded student could not hide his surprise in his tone: “You never ntioned you were coming to this Moonlight Ball! Do others know? Why didn’t you say earlier?”

“Consider it a surprise.”

The blood werewolf gentleman ignored the astonished glances around, took off his hat and twirled it casually in his hand, with a playful smile on his face: “But speaking of which, if it weren’t for confirming that you hadn’t fled till the last mont, I certainly wouldn’t attend this hellish ball.”

“What do you an?”

“It ans, with you in front taking most of the blows, only then can I enjoy a late harvest drink at the ball with assurance. A half-blood of the Blood Race and werewolf is always the biggest topic at the ball. With your appearance, that’s no longer the case.” Dylan wore a bright smile, his eyes wandering around the warlock: “Your… uh… dance partner?”

“I don’t know!”

Zheng Qing responded grumpily, barely restraining the urge to wave his wand and knock Dylan on the head.

“Oh, that’s not surprising.”

The blood werewolf nodded pensively: “If soone says they’ve been preparing their whole life for this night, it might be a bit exaggerated, but there are no few witches who’ve prepared a whole sester for it…. Su Councilor isn’t an ordinary witch, so taking a little longer is understandable.”

The night breeze blew gently.

The blood werewolf shivered slightly, quickly noticing the young funded student’s eyes still lingering on him, he laughed dryly: “Let’s go, don’t catch a cold out here, there’s warm sweet wine inside…. By the way, you wouldn’t believe who I’ve seen here.”

Zheng Qing wanted to maintain the ‘malice’ he’d held for just a few seconds, but the cat’s curiosity couldn’t be controlled.

“Who?”

“You’ll find out once we go in.”

Dylan teased a little: “You know, curiosity is only sweetest the mont it’s satisfied, and the longer you endure, the richer your reward. Like Su Councilor’s dance partner, who everyone at the ball is curious about, but besides , everyone else can hold back that curiosity, waiting for you to reveal yourself… As for why I’m not curious, it’s because I already see your true nature.”

Zheng Qing never knew you could say such a long string of pretty nonsense without repeating. It gave him a very clear understanding of the quality of the guests’ conversations at the ball.

As they spoke, the two had reached the top of the stairs.

Dylan led him to the central porch, flanked by two tall sets of armor standing under the pillars. Zheng Qing couldn’t tell if there were any faces behind the visors, but for wizards, it didn’t seem to make much difference either way.

There was a plaque hanging on each side of the pillar.

The left was the familiar ‘Mount Tai Shi Gan Dang’, while the right seed to be a moonlight adage—’All secrets will fall silent under the moon’.

Crossing the porch, the lodious strings beca clearer, and large wide portraits hung between the corridors on either side. A dozen of the Moon Council’s big shots were scrutinizing every young wizard entering under their gazes, and as Zheng Qing entered, those eyes almost simultaneously fell on him.

This ti, the warlock didn’t need to regret not having ‘transformation aftereffects’ because he could hear the portraits’ ‘whispering’ clearly — he suspected the old fellows had purposely let him hear.

“Is it him?”

“Yes, it’s him.”

“He’s not even a registered wizard yet!”

“How could Junjun be interested in such an unattractive guy!”

“Unattractive, no, but ordinary without a doubt… Perhaps Junjun thinks she’s too exceptional and wants to find a flaw to experience the taste of the ordinary?”

The young funded student couldn’t help but look in the direction of the voices, wanting to see who said the most shaless line — no surprise, it was a lady with two fox ears, and noticing his gaze, she raised a small fan to cover half her face, twitching her ears in friendly acknowledgnt.

The boy silently sighed and quickened his pace slightly.

“If you flee at the sound of a little judgnt, there’s probably not a clean spot at the entire ball site.” Dylan’s voice sounded behind him: “The elders are still mindful with their words… I an, if you brought a charm gun tonight, I’d suggest handing it to for safekeeping.”

His response was Zheng Qing’s abrupt halt.

“Is she the one you said I’d ‘absolutely not expect’ to see?” Zheng Qing cautiously tilted his neck back, lowering his voice to ask.

The blood werewolf gentleman’s head peeked over the boy’s shoulder, following his line of sight.

“Of course not,” he looked surprised: “But if the Fat Wizard knew that his senior sister also ca to the Moonlight Ball, he’d certainly be very disappointed.”
