Chapter 1730: Story 1730: The Fla That Dreams
The Forgekeeper’s words echoed long after its light faded.
In the cavern’s heat, Erian sat in silence, staring at the molten rivers that wound through stone like veins of a living world. The mark on his palm no longer burned with pain—it sang, a deep rhythm that pulsed with sothing older than mory.
“A weapon of balance,” he murmured. “But how can a weapon bring peace?”
Marra paced near the edge of the forge, her reflection flickering in the glow. “Maybe it’s not about peace,” she said. “Maybe it’s about choice. The Dreamfire never forced—it offered.”
Tovin, ever quiet, had wandered toward one of the murals. His small fingers traced the silhouette of the unfinished figure—the hand of fla reaching for a darkened sky. “What if the last one isn’t Kael or Serin?” he whispered. “What if it’s him?”
Erian frowned. “Who?”
Tovin turned, his eyes reflecting twin embers. “The one who cos after.”
Before Erian could answer, the ground trembled. The Forgekeeper’s molten eyes reignited for a mont, flaring with urgency.
“The Hollow moves beneath the world,” it thundered. “Its whispers seep into the hearts of kings. The next war begins not with armies—but with dreams.”
The heat surged, and in the river of magma, visions blood—cities burning not by fla, but by madness. n and won turning on each other as nightmares ca alive, their fears given form.
“The Hollow learns,” said the Forgekeeper. “It has found a way to dream back.”
Then the fire dimd. The cavern went still.
Erian stood, trembling, his mind a storm of light and shadow. “It wants the Dreamfire,” he realized. “It wants to shape it the way it shapes fear.”
Marra grabbed his hand. “Then we have to forge it first.”
The mark on Erian’s palm pulsed, answering her words. The magma rivers surged, spilling over the edges of the forge as if awakening to command. The hamr and anvil rose from molten stone, glowing brighter than the sun.
Erian stepped forward. “You said the fire must choose its form,” he said to the echoing chamber. “Then let it choose now.”
He held out his hand. The mark ignited. Light poured from his palm, streams of gold and red swirling into the forge. The air scread with pressure and song—the sound of creation reborn.
Marra and Tovin shielded their eyes as the light grew unbearable. Within it, shapes took form—steel and fla, heart and breath. Then, silence.
When it was done, the forge dimd. Floating above the anvil was a blade unlike any seen before—half fla, half crystal, its edge flickering between dream and reality.
Erian reached for it. The weapon pulsed once, then settled into his grasp like it had been waiting for him all along.
“What is it?” Marra asked.
He gazed into its burning core. “The Dreamfire’s mory,” he said softly. “A fla that dreams of balance.”
Above them, the mountain rumbled. The Hollow’s whisper returned, soft and cold:
“Then let us dream together.”
And far beyond the mountains, across a thousand sleeping minds, the Hollow began to stir.
