Chapter 1731: Story 1731: The Echo of Shadows

The Forge of Dawn slept once more, but the world above had begun to wake in fear.

From the far kingdoms to the ruined plains of Vareth, people whispered of dark dreams that walked in daylight. Shadows moved where none should fall. Fires burned cold. The Hollow had returned—not as a beast, but as a voice inside every living soul.

Erian, Marra, and Tovin descended from the Rendspire carrying the blade of living fla—the Dreamfire’s mory. Its glow cut through the mist like a heartbeat, yet the warmth it gave was not comfort. It rembered. Each ti Erian held it, visions flickered before his eyes—Kael’s final dawn, Serin’s last strike, and the wars that followed.

“It’s showing you what ca before,” Marra said one night as they rested beside a frozen river.

“No,” Erian replied softly, staring into the fire. “It’s warning what might co again.”

The Hollow’s whispers ca soon after.

At first, faint as the wind: You forge light only to cast longer shadows.

Then louder, nearer: You carry fire, and the world burns for it.

Erian tried to ignore it, but the voice dug deeper, wrapping around his thoughts like smoke. When he closed his eyes, he saw faces—people he’d never t—dreaming, screaming, awakening into fear.

Marra noticed the change. “It’s feeding on you,” she said, gripping his arm.

“Then let it,” Erian answered. “If it wants the Dreamfire, it will have to face it.”

They reached the lowlands by dawn. The plains there were littered with what looked like black glass—villages petrified by so unseen force. In the still air, the sound of breathing echoed from the ruins.

Tovin, clutching his flute, trembled. “They’re not dead,” he whispered. “They’re sleeping.”

And he was right. Inside the crystal shells, eyes flickered. People were trapped in waking nightmares, their minds twisted into shapes of despair. The Hollow had learned to turn dreams into prisons.

Erian raised the blade. The Dreamfire’s light shimred across the ruins, burning away the glass where it touched. Those freed gasped for air, their eyes full of terror. “The dark cos through us,” one said. “It wears our faces now.”

Erian looked toward the horizon—toward the direction the wind carried the Hollow’s whispers. “Then it’s ti to et it,” he said.

They traveled until sunset. The sky turned red, and from the ground rose figures of smoke and mory—reflections of the trio themselves, carved from shadow.

“Dreams fighting dreams,” Marra whispered. “It’s using us.”

The figures moved, mimicking their every motion. When Erian lifted the Dreamfire’s mory, his shadow did too—its blade black as night, its fire inverted.

The Hollow’s voice filled the air:

“Balance demands reflection. You made a weapon to end —so I will make one to end you.”

The shadows struck. Fla t void. Light t fear. The sky split open above the Rendspire, as the first battle between Dream and Hollow began anew.

And in that chaos, the Dreamfire’s mory began to sing.
