Chapter 1732: Story 1732: The Song of Unmaking

The air trembled with every strike.

Each ti the Dreamfire’s mory t its shadow twin, the world rippled—mountains shuddered, rivers turned to steam, and the sky wept molten light. The Hollow’s laughter echoed between every heartbeat, mocking the living and the dreaming alike.

Erian’s blade burned bright, but with every swing, his strength bled away into the void. His shadow moved faster—stronger—fed by the darkness that crawled in every soul touched by fear.

“Erian!” Marra cried over the storm. “You’re feeding it! Stop fighting like it’s real!”

But how could he stop? The shadow felt alive. When he struck, it struck back—not to kill, but to mirror. Their every motion locked in endless imitation. It was not battle—it was reflection.

Tovin’s trembling hands found his glass flute. “If dreams can bind,” he whispered, “then maybe they can break.”

He raised the flute to his lips and began to play.

A haunting tune filled the air—fragile, uncertain, but pure. The notes wove through the chaos like threads of dawn, and where they touched, the shadows faltered, edges blurring. The Hollow’s laughter broke into a growl.

“Child of sound,” it hissed, “you cannot sing away the silence.”

But Tovin didn’t stop.

The song grew stronger, blooming into light. The lody carried fragnts of mory—laughter by rivers, a mother’s lullaby, the warmth of days before ruin. Every note was a promise: that not all dreams were the Hollow’s to claim.

Erian felt it too. The Dreamfire’s mory thrumd in his hand, resonating with the music. The blade’s song rose to et it, turning the battlefield into a choir of creation and destruction entwined.

Then ca a shattering flash.

The shadow Erian scread—no voice, no sound, only the tearing of air. When the light cleared, the reflection had split. Half turned to dust, half lingered—kneeling, trembling, its black fla flickering weakly.

Erian approached, blade still glowing. “Why fight ?” he asked softly. “You could fade. You don’t have to be this.”

The shadow lifted its face—his face—eyes hollow but glistening.

“Because I am what remains when you lose hope,” it said. “When you stop dreaming, I beco real.”

The words cut deeper than any wound.

Erian lowered the blade, realization striking like lightning. The Hollow did not need to kill him—it only needed him to stop believing.

“Then I won’t,” he whispered.

The Dreamfire flared, wrapping both Erian and his shadow in light. For a mont, they rged—light and darkness folding together like two halves of one truth. The void scread and recoiled, the mountains echoing with the sound of its retreat.

When the light faded, Erian stood alone. The shadow was gone—but its mark lingered in his eyes, a dark gleam beneath the fla.

Marra rushed to him. “Are you—?”

“Not whole,” he said quietly. “But neither is the Hollow.”

Above them, the clouds parted. A crimson moon rose, its surface cracked and bleeding light.

And from far below the earth, the Hollow whispered once more:

“You’ve learned to sing, little fla. Let’s see how long your song can last.”
