Tovin shivered. “Anyone else feel that? Like the Weave is... afraid?”
Marra scanned the darkening corridor. “Not afraid. Bracing.”
Erian’s jaw tightened. “We’re approaching a core fracture.”
The crystal path finally opened into a cavern of trembling light. Threads of mory stretched in every direction like veins, pulsing with uneven rhythm. The chamber’s center held sothing unexpected—
A beating heart.
Suspended in midair.
Wrapped in glowing Weave-threads that strained to hold it together.
The heart was enormous, easily twice the size of a person, each beat shaking the chamber with a dull, painful thud.
Tovin’s eyes widened. “Uh... whose heart is that?”
Erian stepped forward cautiously. “Not a person’s. This is the heart of the fracture. A mory so powerful it created a living anchor.”
The Weave’s voice trembled, barely a whisper amid the rhythmic pounding:

Marra approached slowly. Beneath the floating heart lay a cracked stone floor—lines spider-webbing outward as though sothing had shattered the chamber from below.
A figure knelt at the base of the heart.
A man.
Motionless.
Head bowed.
Hands clasped around a small, broken charm.
His presence pulsed in rhythm with the heart, as though connected to it.
Marra whispered, “He looks... frozen.”
Erian nodded. “He is. Trapped inside his own unbroken love.”
The man suddenly raised his head.
His eyes were raw, red, and filled with an exhaustion deeper than grief.
He whispered:
“I held on too tightly.”
The heart beat faster, threads straining.
Tovin asked softly, “Held on to... what?”
The man swallowed hard.
“Her.”
He opened his hand, revealing the broken charm—a tiny silver bird with its wings snapped off.
“She died. But I refused to accept it.”
The chamber pulsed violently.
“I kept believing she’d return.”
“I kept the heart of our love beating.”
“But the Weave... it can’t sustain what doesn’t move forward.”
Shadows burst from the cracking floor—these were not formless like before. These had eyes. Faces. Hands. They were mories of monts he refused to release—echoes of her laughs, her tears, her silhouette. Hundreds of versions of the sa woman, all reaching out desperately.
Marra drew her daggers. “Those aren’t enemies. They’re chains.”

The man’s voice cracked.
“I don’t want to forget her.”
Marra knelt beside him. “Letting go isn’t forgetting. It’s choosing to live with the mory instead of inside it.”
The chamber shook harder—threads snapping.
The heart beat wildly.
The man squeezed the broken charm.
Then—
He exhaled.
“Goodbye... my love.”
The heart shattered in brilliant light.
The mories dissolved into peaceful blue motes.
The cavern fell silent.
The man smiled through tears as his form faded gently.
“Thank you... for breaking what I could not.”
The path ahead ford—straight this ti, glowing with steady, intense light.
