The newly ford path glead like a polished blade—silver, sharp, impossibly smooth. Each step sent ripples across its surface as though they were walking upon a river made of light. The Weave trembled, its threads vibrating in anxious anticipation.

Tovin exhaled slowly. “This path feels... dangerous.”

Marra nodded. “It feels like choice. Like every step could go wrong.”

Erian’s eyes sharpened. “A fracture born from decisions. Or indecisions.”

The corridor opened into a vast chamber that appeared empty—until the light shifted.

Then the mirrors appeared.

Hundreds of tall, silver mirrors encircled the chamber, curving upward into a do of reflections. But not one showed their current selves. Each mirror displayed different versions of them—older, younger, broken, triumphant, alone, together, changed in ways impossible to explain.

Tovin stepped closer to a mirror showing him in a royal robe, crown slightly crooked.

“Oh. Yeah. I’d make a terrible king.”

Marra inspected one showing her dressed in healer’s robes, hands glowing with soft green magic. She blinked, stunned. “I... never even considered that.”

Erian approached the central mirror—larger than the rest, shimring with a strange gravity. He froze.

Tovin looked over his shoulder. “What do you see?”

Erian’s voice thinned. “Not .”

Inside the mirror stood a child—small, fragile—holding a wooden sword. His eyes were full of hope, of dreams untouched. The sa eyes Erian once had.

The Weave spoke softly:

“This fracture was born from a dream abandoned... a future never lived.”

A figure appeared before the central mirror—a man in his early thirties, wearing the armor of a guardian, though cracked and darkened. He stared at his reflection, one hand pressed against the glass.

Erian whispered, “He’s older than .”

The man didn’t turn, but spoke with a voice hollowed by regret:

“I was ant to protect. To beco soone the world could rely on.”

He closed his eyes, pain flickering across his face.

“But fear changed my path. I stepped back. I hid. I chose safety... and lost the future I wanted.”

The mirrors flickered violently.

Dozens of reflections twisted into monstrous shapes—versions of the man that were bitter, lost, broken by choices unmade.

Marra tensed. “The mirrors are unstable.”

The man clenched his fists. “I am haunted by what I didn’t beco.”

Tovin backed away as a mirror cracked, leaking shadows. “And those reflections aren’t staying inside.”

Glass exploded outward.

The corrupted reflections stepped into the chamber—distorted versions of the man, twisted with self-bla and doubt.

Erian shouted, “They’re manifestations of his regret!”

The man dropped to his knees. “They’re everything I could have been... but wasn’t.”

Marra grabbed his shoulders. “You don’t need to live all those futures. Just one.”

Tovin hurled blasts of light, shattering twisted reflections. “Pick the one that matters to you!”

Erian placed a hand on the man’s chest. “You still have ti. Your path isn’t gone—it’s unfinished.”

The central mirror vibrated. The child inside lifted his wooden sword—and smiled.

The man’s breath hitched.

He whispered:

“I choose to move forward.”

The mirrors burst into pure light.

The twisted reflections dissolved.

The chamber brightened as the man’s form shimred, standing taller, stronger—not the future he lost, but the one he could still build.

“Thank you,” he said, voice steady now.

“For reminding that regret isn’t destiny.”

He dissolved into silver motes joining the Weave.

Tovin wiped sweat from his brow. “Fifty fractures... halfway.”

Marra looked at the path forming ahead—woven from gold, white, and storm-gray threads.

Erian tightened his grip on the Dreamfire’s mory.

“From here,” he said quietly, “things get harder.”
