Capítulo 1904: Story 1904: The Cliff of Silent Oaths

Night fell without darkness.

The sky dimd into a copper haze, thick with smoke and ash, as if the sun itself refused to witness what gathered below the cliff. The horde did not attack.

It waited.

That was worse.

From the smuggler’s ledge, the man and woman watched the dead arrange themselves with unnatural patience. Rows ford. Gaps closed. The drowned stood nearest the water, while the inland dead clustered behind them like reserves.

Order had returned to the end of the world.

“They’re learning,” the woman said.

“They already know,” the man replied. “We just forgot.”

Stone cracked beneath their boots as the walking ship pressed against the cliff, its wooden limbs creaking like bones under strain. Zombies climbed onto it, anchoring themselves with chains and hooks. The horn did not sound again.

It didn’t need to.

The cliff path behind them narrowed into a passage carved by smugglers centuries ago. Rusted iron rings were embedded in the stone—old mooring points for boats and contraband lifts.

And sothing else.

Carved into the rock were nas.

Hundreds of them.

Sailors. Thieves. Exiles. n and won who had sworn silence to survive empires long dead. Their letters were worn smooth by ti, but the intent remained.

“This place was built on oaths,” the woman said, tracing a na with bloodied fingers.

The man nodded. “And oaths don’t die easy.”

A sound echoed from the passage.

Footsteps.

Human.

They spun, blades raised, but the figure that erged was thin, hunched, wrapped in layers of salt-stained cloth. His eyes were sharp, alive—too alive for this world.

“Lower your weapons,” the stranger said. “If I wanted you dead, you’d already be quiet.”

He introduced himself as Corven, last keeper of the cliff paths. His people had used these routes to move unseen when kingdoms ruled the seas. When the dead rose, they hid.

“They found us anyway,” he said. “They always do.”

Below, the walking ship shifted, its figurehead turning toward the ledge as if listening.

“They’re waiting for sothing,” the woman said.

Corven swallowed. “For night.”

He led them deeper into the cliff, into chambers reinforced with ship beams and stone. Supplies lay stacked—dry food, blades, black powder wrapped in oilcloth. Survivors’ work.

“We can’t outrun that thing,” the man said. “So what’s the plan?”

Corven’s gaze hardened. “We swear.”

The woman frowned. “Swear what?”

“To beco invisible.”

He showed them the final chamber—a ritual space marked with salt circles, old mariti symbols, and blood-stained rope. These were not prayers.

They were contracts.

“Long ago,” Corven said, “sailors made pacts with the sea to pass unseen. The dead don’t understand it—but they feel it. Confuses them.”

The walking ship slamd into the cliff again. Stone shook loose. The horde roared as one.

Ti was gone.

The man and woman exchanged a look. Fear flickered—then settled into resolve.

“What’s the cost?” the woman asked.

Corven hesitated. “It marks you. The dead won’t forget you existed—even if they can’t see you.”

The man stepped forward. “They already rember us.”

They cut their palms and pressed blood into the salt.

The symbols ignited—not with fla, but with silence.

Outside, the horn finally sounded again—this ti uncertain.

For the first ti since the world ended, the dead hesitated.

And the cliff held its breath.
