The explosion of dark light rolled across the ruined street like a silent storm.
Both titanic monsters staggered.
The hunter screeched in fury as the wave struck its massive body, forcing it backward across the broken pavent. Cars were crushed beneath its claws as it struggled to regain balance.
Across the street, the red-eyed giant recoiled as if burned. Its ancient face twisted in sothing close to shock.
For the first ti since awakening... it looked afraid.
Elena Voss fell to one knee as the energy drained from her body.
The mark on her chest pulsed violently beneath her skin, glowing like molten iron.
Inside her mind, the whisper returned.
But now it was no longer calm.

Elena clenched her teeth.
“I’m not your weapon,” she gasped.
The whisper twisted, growing louder and deeper.

The mark flared again.
A sharp pain shot through Elena’s chest as black veins spread outward from the crooked eye symbol, crawling across her skin like living cracks.
Behind her, the injured guardian creature struggled to sit up.
“Elena... stop it...” it groaned.
She looked back at him weakly.
“I can’t,” she said.
“It’s fighting .”
Outside, the hunter recovered first.
With a thunderous roar it charged the red-eyed giant again, smashing through a half-collapsed building and slamming into its ancient rival.
The impact shook the entire street.
The giant roared back, slashing deep across the hunter’s scaled neck.
Both monsters crashed into the rubble, tearing at each other with terrifying strength.
But sothing had changed.
They were slower now.
Weaker.
The wave from the mark had hurt them both.
Inside the basent, Elena struggled to breathe as the voice in her mind grew more violent.
Choose... or break.
Her vision flickered.
Dark images poured into her thoughts.
Cities collapsing.
Oceans boiling.
The red-eyed creatures covering the world like insects.
The hunter devouring everything in its path.

A master of monsters.

She pressed her hand harder against the burning symbol.
“No,” she whispered.
The whisper roared in anger.

Her body lifted slowly off the floor.
The guardian creature’s eyes widened in horror.
“Elena!”
She gasped as the mark pulled power from sowhere deep beneath the earth.
From the basent chamber.
From the red-eyed creatures still crawling inside.
From the hunter outside.
The mark was feeding.
Using her as the conduit.
Outside, both monsters suddenly froze.
They turned toward the basent again.
Toward Elena.
The hunter snarled uneasily.
The red-eyed giant stared with growing realization.
“...vessel...” it rumbled.
Elena’s body rose higher into the air as the energy around her intensified.
Cracks spread across the basent walls.
The ground trembled.
Because the mark had just discovered sothing terrifying.
Elena’s refusal hadn’t weakened it.
It had forced the mark to reveal its true purpose.

The guardian creature stared upward in dread.
“Elena...” it whispered.
Her glowing eyes slowly opened.

Outside, the hunter backed away.
