Elena Voss hung in the air above the cracked basent floor.
Dark energy spiraled around her like living smoke.
The crooked eye symbol on her chest burned brighter with every second, feeding on sothing far deeper than the monsters outside.
Her eyes glowed now.
Not red.
Not yellow.
But a cold, unnatural white.
The guardian creature watched in horror from the ground below.
“Elena... fight it...” he whispered weakly.
Her body trembled.
Inside her mind, the whisper had beco a storm.
Open.
The voice was no longer begging.
It was commanding.
The mark pulsed violently.
You are the door.
Elena’s breathing grew slow and uneven.
“What... door?” she murmured.
The whisper answered.
The one inside you.
Outside the shattered wall, the hunter stepped backward, its enormous claws scraping against the ruined street. Its burning orange eyes never left Elena.
The red-eyed giant stood motionless as well.
Neither monster attacked now.
Both of them understood sothing terrible.
They weren’t fighting anymore.
They were waiting.
The ground trembled again as cracks spread through the basent walls.
Chunks of concrete fell from the ceiling.
Inside the open chamber behind Elena, the red-eyed creatures had stopped crawling forward.
Instead they watched her.
Silent.
Reverent.
Like worshippers waiting for a god to awaken.
Elena’s head slowly tilted upward as another wave of pain surged through her chest.
The black veins spread farther across her body.
Across her throat.
Across her face.
The guardian creature dragged himself closer across the floor.
“Elena... listen to ...”
Her glowing eyes shifted toward him.
For a mont... sothing human flickered inside them.
“Help ,” she whispered.
The whisper in her mind scread again.
Open.
Suddenly Elena’s body jerked violently.
Her back arched as the crooked eye symbol expanded beneath her skin, its twisted shape spreading outward like a second skeleton made of darkness.
A deep rumbling sound ca from beneath the building.
But it wasn’t from the hunter.
And it wasn’t from the red-eyed creatures.
It was coming from Elena herself.
Inside her chest.
The guardian creature froze.
Because he recognized that sound.
A lock breaking.
“Elena!” he shouted desperately.
“Don’t let it—”
The mark flared.
A pulse of black light erupted outward again.
Outside, the hunter roared and staggered back as the energy wave struck it.
The red-eyed giant dropped to one knee.
Even the ancient creatures inside the chamber shrieked as the power rolled over them.
Elena slowly lowered her head.
Her voice ca out... different.
Deeper.
Layered with sothing else.
“...too late...”
The guardian stared in horror.
“Elena...?”
Her glowing white eyes locked onto him.
For a brief mont, sadness passed across her face.
Then the whisper spoke through her mouth.
The door opens.
The crooked eye symbol on her chest split open like a wound.
Darkness poured from it.
Not smoke.
Not shadow.
Sothing thicker.
Sothing alive.
The air in the basent turned cold enough to frost the broken concrete.
Outside, both titans stepped backward again.
Even the hunter lowered its massive head.
Not in fear.
In recognition.
Because the presence spreading from Elena was older than the hunter.
Older than the red-eyed creatures.
Older than the dead world itself.
The guardian creature whispered the only word he could think of.
“God...”
Elena floated silently in the air as the darkness poured from her chest.
And sowhere far beyond the city...
Sothing ancient finally woke up.
Because the mark had never been calling monsters.
It had been calling ho.
