The stone door slamd shut behind the team with a resounding thud, leaving them in an oppressive silence. The narrow corridor opened into a larger chamber, its walls lined with human bones stacked ticulously to form macabre pillars of death. At the center stood an imposing white cross embedded into the wall, its base surrounded by dark symbols etched into the dirt floor.
"This isn't just decoration," murmured Shadow, her voice low as she scanned the room with her flashlight. "It's a warning."

"Focus," Rook ordered, his voice cutting through the tension. "This is the heart of the catacombs. The relic we're looking for is close. Stay alert."
Ghost knelt near the base of the cross, brushing away layers of dust to reveal an intricate engraving. "These symbols… they're coordinates," he said, his voice tinged with unease. "But they're also so sort of ritual instructions. Whoever built this wasn't just storing bones—they were performing sothing here."
A low rumble echoed through the chamber, and the ground beneath their feet began to quake. Bulwark imdiately raised his weapon, scanning the darkened tunnels that led away from the chamber. "We've got movent!" he barked.
Before anyone could react, shadowy figures erged from the passageways. They weren't the grotesque creatures from before but humanoid beings draped in tattered cloaks, their faces obscured by bone masks. They moved in unnerving unison, surrounding the team with silent nace.
"Defensive positions!" Rook commanded, taking cover behind one of the bone pillars.
The cloaked figures moved closer, their steps eerily synchronized. One stepped forward, raising a gnarled staff that emitted a sickly green glow. In a deep, guttural voice, it spoke in an ancient language that none of the team could understand.
Shadow's voice crackled through the comms. "They're not attacking. Not yet, at least. It looks like they're guarding sothing."
"Whatever they're guarding, we're taking it," Rook replied, his tone resolute. "Bulwark, create a distraction. Ghost, find us a way to that cross. Everyone else, hold position."
Bulwark grinned, pulling a flashbang from his gear. "Ti to make so noise." He hurled the grenade into the center of the chamber, the ensuing explosion of light and sound montarily disorienting the cloaked figures.
Ghost darted toward the cross, his movents swift and precise. He quickly found a hidden chanism at its base, a small lever disguised as part of the design. "Found it!" he called out.
As he pulled the lever, the cross began to shift, revealing a hidden passageway behind it. The cloaked figures recovered, their bone masks turning toward the team with palpable fury.
"Move, now!" Rook yelled, covering the team with suppressive fire as they retreated into the passage.
The door sealed shut behind them, plunging them into darkness once again. "Whatever's ahead," Rook said, his voice steady, "we're not turning back now."
