A deep, guttural laughter echoed from above.
The creature lood in the darkness, its grotesque tongue slithering from its gaping, fanged maw.

The Devourer had evolved.
It dropped from the ceiling with a sickening thud, landing on all fours, its grotesquely elongated arms stretching forward.
A sickening pop followed as its jaw unhinged wider.
Lucas fired first—a direct headshot.
The bullet barely slowed it down.
The Devourer’s head snapped back unnaturally, but the wound sealed almost instantly.
“That’s impossible,” Sam breathed, stepping back.
Evelyn’s mind raced.
It wasn’t just healing.
It was adapting.
The shambling undead surged forward.
Reaper roared, swinging his machete.
He severed a corpse’s head, but the head continued to move, its jaw snapping wildly.
Leon grabbed Evelyn’s arm.

Her eyes locked onto the creature’s shifting form.

We have to stop it.”
Mia, clutching her wounded arm, glanced at the others.

“The brain,” she whispered.

It’s lower.”
The Devourer lunged.
Reaper tackled Leon out of the way, but Lucas wasn’t as lucky—the creature’s massive claws raked across his chest, sending him flying into the fleshy wall.
Samantha scread, unloading her clip into its torso.
The bullets ripped through its body, but the wounds closed within seconds.
Evelyn gritted her teeth.

The chest—”
Reaper threw a grenade.
The explosion rocked the chamber.
Flas engulfed the lower half of the creature, and for the first ti, it let out a piercing, inhuman screech.
It stumbled backward, its abdon splitting open—revealing a writhing mass of tendrils and sothing pulsing deep within.
“The core—that’s the real brain!” Evelyn shouted.
Leon fired first.
A precise shot, straight into the pulsing, fleshy mass.
The Devourer convulsed violently.
The ground trembled as black ichor spewed from its open chest.
Its shriek beca deafening, shaking the walls of the chamber.
Then, it collapsed.
Silence.
The survivors barely had a mont to breathe before the walls began to tremble again.
More laughter.
Then, in the darkness—more eyes opened.
