“That thing’s still in my head,” Lucas muttered.
His eyes flickered black for a second.
Evelyn tightened her grip on her pistol.
“Then fight it, Lucas.”
Reaper scanned the tunnels ahead, his grip firm on his machete.
“This place used to be a Flesh Cult outpost.
If we’re lucky, there’s still weapons stashed here.”
Leon grunted.
“And if we’re not?”
Mia answered grimly.
“Then we’re already dead.”
The Breathing Darkness
As they moved deeper, sothing felt wrong.
The walls were pulsing.
The moisture dripping from the ceiling wasn’t just water—it was black, viscous, alive.
Lucas stiffened, his breath hitching.
“They’re watching us.”
Reaper turned, blade ready.
“Who?”
“Them.”
A gurgling growl slithered from the darkness.
From the shadows, they erged.
The Veinborn.
Once human, their bodies were grotesquely reshaped—elongated limbs covered in chitinous growths, flesh webbed with pulsating veins.
Their mouths split open vertically, rows of needle-like teeth clicking together.
One lunged.
Leon fired, blasting its skull apart.
The creature didn’t fall.
Instead, the veins retracted, dragging its body back into the wall—where it began to reform.
“They regenerate,” Evelyn whispered, horror setting in.
“We have to move!” Reaper yelled, swinging his machete at another.
The group rushed forward, firing wildly, only slowing the Veinborn.
They twisted and writhed, their bodies bending in unnatural ways, screeching as they pursued.
Lucas clutched his skull.
“They’re trying to pull in!”
Evelyn grabbed him.
“Not today, Lucas.”
Ahead, the tunnel split—one path leading deeper underground, the other into a collapsed station where sothing flickered in the distance.
A heartbeat.
Or sothing worse.
The Nesting Ground
They burst into the open station, the flickering light coming from organic growths lining the walls—eggs.
Inside, shadows shifted.
Mia froze.
“Oh, God…”
The eggs cracked open.
A horrible chittering noise filled the air.
From inside the pods, tiny, writhing creatures spilled out—their bodies made of exposed nerves and muscle, twisting tendrils reaching for warmth.
“RUN!” Evelyn scread.
They raced toward the only exit, the Veinborn hissing behind them.
Lucas stumbled, his arms twitching as if the infection was trying to overtake him.
The horrors closed in.
But as they reached the tunnel’s end, a figure stepped out of the shadows.
A hulking, armored figure.
The light from their visor flickered.
General Hale.
His rifle humd with energy.
“Survivors?” He smirked.
“Bad luck for you.”
