— Underworld - Immigrant Gate —

After being consud by darkness, Murong Xuanji finally regained consciousness. He woke up on a strange shore. It was the shore of a green river that flowed with countless shimring souls, while mountains of green crystals piled at the bottom of the river.

He looked around. There were crowds of immaterial souls lying along the shore, and groups of people dressed in strange black clothing were touching those immaterial souls with iron rod like tools.

After being touched, the immaterial souls materialized and regained physical bodies, lying on the shore as the group in black moved on to another cluster of souls.

Murong Xuanji walked further along the shore and saw a large group of people, around seven to eight hundred in number. So were talking loudly, so looked frustrated, so showed clear anger and stomped on the ground. And most importantly,

All of them wore Murong Clan warrior attire. Every single one of them had the word Murong embroidered on the left chest of their outer robes. The clan symbols and the intricate designs of their clothing clearly signified their status.

These were all loyal warriors of the Murong Clan, the elite forces whose loyalty had been tested ti and ti again.

Seeing his own warriors in this strange land, Murong Xuanji decided to approach them.

"Greetings, my loyal warriors," Murong Xuanji said. His voice was loud and commanding, carrying the weight of soone who had long stood in a position of authority.

The group paused, then slowly turned toward him. In an instant, their eyes filled with hatred and hostility.

Murong Xuanji found that the warrior standing in front of him looked sowhat familiar, but he was not soone who bothered rembering the faces of his subordinates. To him, they were like cabbages, plentiful, replaceable, and expendable whenever necessary.

The warriors in front of him were furious. So pointed directly at his face.

"You! Murong Xuanji! You bastard! You dared to kill us!" one of the warriors shouted in rage. "We sacrificed everything and fought for you, and in the end, you even took our lives!"

"That’s right!" another chid in. "If we had been killed by enemies, there would have been no resentnt. At most, we would think we had repaid the resources and favor you gave us. Even if you had escaped and left us behind to hold that vagabond back, we would not have blad you. That was our duty!"

"But no! You killed us yourself! You drained our life force, blood, and qi to nurture yourself! You claid to walk the righteous path, but what was that blood sacrifice you used on us? Why did our cultivation contain a hidden chanism that allowed you to take our lives whenever you wished? We did nothing wrong, yet you still killed us!"

The voices of anger and resentnt grew louder and louder, and this deeply displeased Murong Xuanji. His calm deanor shifted into open fury.

He now rembered. These were the warriors who had accompanied him into battle.

"Shut up, slaves!" Murong Xuanji roared. "The Murong Clan raised you, trained you, and provided you with resources and cultivation techniques. Without us, your fate would have been to die on the roadside or live as rootless vagabonds! What I did was rely reclaim what rightfully belongs to the Murong Clan!"

He continued self righteously, his anger boiling over.

"You have shown insolence! Do not think this will go unanswered!"

He raised his hand and ford a specific pattern. It was the seal used to punish Murong Clan warriors, a technique that utilized Murong Clan bloodlines.

"Now, all of you shall suffer!" Murong Xuanji declared, sounding like a god passing judgnt on mortals.

The warriors retreated fearfully. So fell to the ground, terrified of what was to co. So gritted their teeth, bracing themselves for the pain. Yet not a single one of them knelt or begged for rcy.

But then.....

Nothing happened...

Minutes passed.....

There was no wave of agonizing pain. No suffocating pressure of spiritual qi. Not even the slightest fluctuation of energy.

None of it appeared.

Murong Xuanji tried again. This ti, he used an even more potent seal.

Still, nothing happened.

The warriors looked at themselves, then back at Murong Xuanji. Slowly, vicious smiles spread across their faces, filled with nothing but malice.

"This shouldn’t be possible..." Murong Xuanji staggered backward, an ominous feeling clutching his heart. He tried the seal again and again, but none of them worked.

"Wait... let’s talk..." Murong Xuanji raised his hand hurriedly.

"Talk with our fists, you bastard!" soone shouted.

With a roar of rage, the seven to eight hundred warriors rushed forward, swarming their forr master. Every punch and stomp carried years of pent up resentnt and fury.

"Arrrgh! Stop! My face! Aw! Stop! F*ck!" Murong Xuanji scread like a pig being slaughtered, drawing the attention of nearby onlookers who had just washed ashore.

At a nearby checkpoint, two underworld warriors noticed the commotion. One was young, the other old. The younger one moved to intervene, but the older warrior stopped him.

"Why did you stop , senior? Shouldn’t we go stop them from beating the new soul?" the younger one asked in confusion.

"There’s no need," the older warrior replied calmly. "That poor sod was marked by a higher up. She specifically instructed that he be allowed to experience the full underworld treatnt."

"Even if his soul gets scattered, it will reform and wash ashore again at the River of Souls. Souls that arrive here cannot be destroyed under any circumstance. It is none of our concern."

"We only need to step in if they continue beating him for several days. That is simply to avoid sending the wrong ssage. Other than that, let him get the full experience."

Hearing this, the younger warrior made a face filled with pity.

"What did that guy do in life to earn such treatnt from the higher ups? Even those who wiped out entire sects didn’t receive sothing like this," the younger warrior asked curiously.

"I don’t know," the older warrior shrugged. "And I don’t want to know either. It’s better that way. It lets us sleep well at night."

"You’re right, senior. I understand," the younger warrior nodded before returning to his post, ignoring the ongoing commotion behind him.

— anwhile - The Primordial RUin Secret Realm —

Wei Chen entered the Primordial Ruin secret realm and was t with the scene of people from the Sky Severing Demon Valley Sword Division searching for survivors among the wreckage of the three flying arks that had been cut in half by Mo Jue.

He noticed dozens of survivors from the wreckage tied together, their cultivation sealed. So of the sword warriors noticed Wei Chen, stopped what they were doing, and nodded in greeting. Wei Chen waved back before flying toward the main ruin on the horizon.

After several minutes of flight, Wei Chen finally arrived at the main ruin. He noticed a group from the Sword Division, along with Sword Leader Wang, guarding the entrance.

Seeing Wei Chen, Sword Leader Wang raised his hand.

"Ah! Son in law Wei, over here!" he called out.

Wei Chen’s expression imdiately turned strange when he heard the words son in law. Then he rembered that the money grubbing girl needed him as a shield for her engagent, so he did not bother correcting Sword Leader Wang.

Wei Chen descended to the ground. Before he could ask anything, Sword Leader Wang pointed toward the entrance.

"Lady Mo has been waiting for you inside. She seems worried about you, so you should go in," Sword Leader Wang said with a lewd smile.

Seeing the lewd smile on Sword Leader Wang’s face, Wei Chen’s expression grew complicated. After a brief pause, he shrugged it off and followed the direction toward the entrance.

He had co to check whether they were safe, but from what he could see, it seed he no longer needed to worry. Still, checking with his own eyes never hurt.

Wei Chen entered the ruin. The mont he stepped inside, a goddess like beauty rushed toward him, about to jump on him, but...

Bam!

"Kyaaa!"

Another silhouette moved faster and bumped the goddess like girl to the side. Hua Zuixian quickly rushed forward and caught her, using his spiritual qi as a cushion before slowly placing her down.

"Hey! Did you forget that she’s just a mortal!?" Hua Zuixian protested, pointing at the silhouette that had bumped into Dream Butterfly.

The one who bumped her was Mo Xingyao, who was smirking at Dream Butterfly, while Dream Butterfly pouted in protest.

"Sister Xingyao... you’re so an..." she said unhappily.

Mo Xingyao was stunned. She had completely forgotten that Dream Butterfly was a mortal.

"Err... sorry, sorry... I completely forgot," Mo Xingyao apologized.

Wei Chen, on the other hand, was completely confused by the interaction between the two girls. What had happened here? Why were they talking to each other like sisters? Was he missing sothing?
