"I wasn’t moaning, okay!" retorted Vera Wave indignantly.
"Shush!" Kris Cooper put a finger to her lips. "Everyone heard."
Vera Wave glanced around and indeed saw two restaurant hosts standing on the stairs, barely holding back laughter, their cheeks twitching from the effort.
She wished the ground would open up and swallow her then and there.
"Please, co this way!"
One of the hosts walked over and politely invited them in.
Vera Wave, embarrassed, grabbed Kris Cooper’s arm and buried her face in his sleeve, like an ostrich hiding its head.
Not until they had climbed the stairs and were inside the private room did she finally breathe a sigh of relief. Sitting down, she pouted and glared at Kris Cooper across the table.
Kris Cooper ordered the dishes. He saw Vera Wave sitting far across from him and lazily leaned back in his chair.
"Co over here and get so food!"
"No!"
"So, you want to... go ho and get intimate sooner?"
"No, no, no!" Vera Wave imdiately scampered over like a rabbit and sat down next to him. "We’ve ordered all this food. It would be such a waste not to eat it!"
Soon, the dishes were served one after another.
Vera Wave was already starving and imdiately picked up her chopsticks to eat, completely forgetting about getting food for him.
Kris Cooper didn’t seem offended or annoyed. He picked at his food, his gaze often turning to watch her eat. Seeing her enjoy the al with such relish brought a smile to his lips.
"Is it good?"
"Mmm... It’s been so long since I last had the Roasted Pigeon here... I thought I would never eat it again in my life..." Vera Wave mused aloud. Then, clutching a pigeon leg and turning her face towards him, she asked, "Um... Honey, can we take the leftovers ho?"
There were so many dishes; there was no way the two of them could finish everything. If they packed the leftovers and put them in the fridge, she would have enough to eat for several days.
"No."
"Why not? There’s so much food left. It’s such a waste..."
"My wife doesn’t need to eat leftovers!"
PFFT! Vera Wave spat the mouthful of at she was chewing all over Kris Cooper. She hurriedly grabbed a napkin to wipe him clean. "I’m... I’m sorry... I was just too excited. I definitely didn’t an anything else by it."
Kris Cooper took her small, greasy hand, holding it up to look at it. So many years had passed; he wondered if the ring would still fit.
Taking a napkin, he wiped the grease from her hand and then smiled.
"Let’s eat!"
Vera Wave picked up her half-eaten Roasted Pigeon and, while gnawing on the at, kept sneaking glances at him.
What’s with this guy?
"If you’re full, we should head ho."
"Who said I’m full? I’m far from it!"
She imdiately turned her face away, focusing on her al, chewing each bite carefully and slowly while lost in thought.
Are we really going to... do *that* when we get ho?
Logically, she knew she shouldn’t refuse any of his requests, but the re thought of doing that kind of thing with him again made her want to die of embarrassnt.
She dawdled through the al, dragging it out until ten o’clock. By then, her stomach was so full she couldn’t even drink another sip of water, so she finally relented.
As they went downstairs and got into the car, Vera Wave sat in the passenger seat, praying the entire way. She hoped the car would break down or that so ergency at the office would require him to go work overti.
However, the car made it back to their old residential complex without a hitch, and his phone didn’t ring once.
She steeled herself and climbed the stairs. Just as they reached the second floor, an idea struck her: she imdiately doubled over, clutching her stomach.
"Ah, my stomach hurts so much! I... I need to go to the bathroom."
She fumbled for her keys, unlocked the door, quickly slipped inside, and tried to shut it behind her, but the door was stopped halfway by an unseen force.
