The next morning, Vera didn’t sleep in. Instead, she got up early and took the subway to work.
Even though Kris Cooper hadn’t assigned her any substantial tasks, she always arrived at work on ti. Despite her new dynamic with Kris Cooper—essentially a sugar daddy and bed buddy arrangent—her inherent pride prompted her to earn her own keep.
After feeding the fish on the balcony and watering the plants, she found herself bored. So, she got a rag and started tidying up Kris Cooper’s office.
By the ti she finished cleaning the entire room, it was already noon.
She was packing up, ready to head downstairs for lunch, when a Whatsapp ssage ca from Isla Hawskin.
"See you at the cafeteria later. Don’t you dare stand up, or I’ll co to the CEO’s Office and make you regret it!"
Vera fetched her handbag and went downstairs. When she found Isla, the latter had already ordered her lunch. Seeing Vera arrive, Isla imdiately pushed a tray towards her.
"Well then... my treat!"
"Thank you."
Vera smiled, expressing her gratitude.
As she was about to pick up her utensils, Isla snatched them away.
"Spill the beans before you eat. What exactly is going on between you and the Crown Prince?"
"We..." Vera gave an evasive smile. "He’s my superior, and I’m his subordinate. What other relationship could there be?"
"I’d bet you’re the one on top in bed!" Isla rolled her eyes at her. "Rocketing from the Logistics Departnt to the CEO’s Office, and you still dare to tell there’s nothing going on?"
Vera shrugged. "I slept with him. Is that the answer you were looking for?"
Isla scoffed. "If you were that capable, you wouldn’t be eating in the cafeteria right now... Hey, I’m being serious with you!"
Vera felt utterly helpless. But she *was* being serious!
"Vera," Isla asked hesitantly, "I know I shouldn’t be asking this, but if you don’t want to answer, just pretend I didn’t. They’re saying you’re the heiress of Wave Clan’s real estate business. Is that true?"
Vera had already heard so of the gossip when she arrived at work that morning, so she didn’t hide it from her good friend anymore.
"I’m sorry, I didn’t tell you earlier. But that was all in the past... I’m not really an heiress anymore."
"No worries! Everyone has their ups and downs. Who knows, you might be back on top in a few years?" Hearing the subdued tone in Vera’s voice, Isla didn’t pursue the topic. She grinned and handed the utensils back to her. "Co on, let’s eat. I’m counting on you, girl. When you make it big, don’t you dare forget your poor buddy here."
Last year, when Walter Wave Real Estate was embroiled in that city-wide scandal, Isla had naturally heard the rumors too. She just hadn’t known that Vera was the Wave Clan’s heiress. Now that she knew the truth, she could only sympathize with Vera. Even though whispers and rumors in the company had long suggested an intimate relationship between Vera and Kris Cooper, as a good friend, Isla believed in Vera’s character; she would never sleep her way to the top. Since Vera used to be a lady from a prominent family, it wasn’t particularly surprising that she knew Kris Cooper, the heir of Glimr. After all, they had likely moved in the sa social circles. It made sense that he might look out for her at work, given their past acquaintance.
Halfway through the al, Isla looked up curiously.
"Seriously, Vera. I’ve seen photos of our Crown Prince in ’Tis Weekly’. His looks, those pecs... they’re unreal..."
"PFFT!" Vera burst out laughing. "Did he pose for so revealing shots?"
"No, not at all!"
"Then how did you see his pecs?"
"Can’t a girl have X-ray vision? I can tell just by how his shirt stretches taut! Let tell you, I’ve observed him very carefully. That high nose bridge, those long, slender fingers... he must be amazing in bed..."
