Pouting, Vera Wave followed Kris Cooper downstairs to his car. He opened the door for her, but just as she was about to get in, she stopped and retracted her foot.
Hold on!
Didn’t we just agree to go our separate ways? Why am I still listening to him?!
"What’s wrong?" Kris Cooper asked, puzzled, seeing her pause.
Vera turned to him. "I already paid you back, so why should I still listen to you?"
"Just paying back is enough?" Kris Cooper raised his chin slightly. "A unilateral breach of contract, was it? Alright then, how do we account for the night you slept with ?"
Vera retorted defiantly, "When did I ever sleep with you?!"
Kris Cooper looked down at her, his eyes eting hers. "Don’t forget, you initiated it. I rely satisfied your needs."
Kris, you truly are the fighter jet of shalessness.
Thinking back to that night, Vera was speechless. Reluctantly, she settled into the passenger seat, muttering under her breath.
Kris Cooper slid into the driver’s seat. Not catching what she said, he leaned over. "What?"
The young woman pursed her lips and repeated, louder this ti, "Bad user experience! Negative review!"
She finished with a contemptuous snort.
"HMPH!"
Before the sound of her snort faded, an amused voice reached her ears. Before she could dodge, he playfully bit her earlobe.
"I’ll compensate you for free in a couple of days!"
He hadn’t bitten hard; it didn’t hurt, but her ear still flushed red. Annoyed, she pushed him away.
"Kris Cooper, let tell you, we didn’t sign a contract! Oral agreents aren’t legally protected! I’ll find a way to pay you back as soon as possible. After that, we go our separate ways..."
Kris Cooper started the car. "So, are you the bridge or the road?"
"I... I’m the bridge!"
He steered the car out of the residential complex. "There are roads on every bridge."
"Then I’m the road!"
"And there are bridges on every road."
Vera gritted her teeth again. "So, no matter how you put it, you’re always on top of , aren’t you?"
"If you like, you can be on top next ti."
"You...! I’m trying to have a serious conversation here!"
"Then let’s be serious. Let’s calculate this properly. We won’t even talk about the hundreds of thousands you owed before. Let’s just discuss this one hundred million. If I were to use this sum as financial leverage, I could secure at least five tis that amount in capital. With the stock market yielding profits of 14% these days, and this money still sitting in your account... well, you can do the math." Kris Cooper glanced at Vera, who was already tapping at her phone’s calculator. "Furthermore, regarding the night you slept with , let’s say that’s one million. Plus, ten thousand for the glass of brown sugar water, another ten thousand for the errand of fetching your dicine, and the dicine itself cost thirty-seven dollars and fifty cents..."
"You!" Vera looked up from her phone’s calculator, her teeth clenched. "For ten thousand, I could buy a thousand kilograms of brown sugar!"
"Correct. But *I* was the one who made that brown sugar water. Is my ti asured in seconds?"
Vera felt an overwhelming urge to throw her phone. "By your logic, I’ll never be able to pay you back in this lifeti, will I?!"
Kris Cooper leaned back in his seat, a grin playing on his lips. "Then you can just continue paying back in the next life."
Vera gripped her phone tightly, her small chest heaving with anger.
Kris Cooper rged the car into the fast lane. "Who was that man?"
"Which man?"
"The one in your room!"
There was a distinct edge of anger in his voice now.
"You an Nathan Leafcastle?"
After she spoke, she turned her head again, puzzled, to look at Kris Cooper beside her in the driver’s seat. His expression was darkening by the second.
The re ntion of Nathan Leafcastle infuriates him. Could he be... jealous?!
