Walking out of the ward, heading towards the elevator along the corridor, the smile on Vera Wave’s face gradually faded.
"Still worried about the old house?" Nathan Leafcastle asked softly.
"Ah..." Vera snapped back to reality and gently shook her head, "Actually... I’ve figured it out. Even if I can get the old house back, with my current capabilities, I don’t have the financial resources to maintain it."
Such a mansion requires money for cleaning and daily maintenance, not to ntion the ti and effort needed just for the flowers and trees in the garden.
With her current abilities, just taking care of herself and Grandma Wave is already challenging; she simply doesn’t have the capacity to hire soone to manage it.
"It’s okay, Vera." Nathan pressed the elevator door, letting her in first, and followed her inside, "I’ll help you."
Vera smiled at him sideways, "Brother Nathan, I appreciate the gesture, but... let’s just forget it."
Retrieving the old house is just a dream, after all; she needs to be more realistic. Ti has passed, and so things have beco settled.
Nathan Leafcastle’s eyebrows twitched slightly, just about to speak, when the elevator doors opened and a family mber visiting the patient entered.
With an additional person, it wasn’t appropriate for him to say anything more.
Monts later, the elevator reached downstairs, and Vera took the initiative to invite him to a nearby restaurant for Hot Pot.
"It’s not a big restaurant, but... I can afford it."
She said.
At her core, Vera has her pride.
Nathan Leafcastle smiled.
"Okay."
The two of them arrived at the Hot Pot Restaurant together and chose a seat by the window. It was peak dining ti, and the custors were loudly chatting and laughing, creating a noisy atmosphere.
Nathan Leafcastle’s brows furrowed slightly; he wanted to chat with her, but felt uncomfortable in such a setting.
Across from him, Vera lifted her face and glanced at the uneaten at on his plate.
"Is it not to your taste? Or... should we order so vegetables?"
"No, I’m full." Nathan smiled back at her, "Later... shall we find a place to have a cup of coffee, sit down, and have a good chat?"
Vera raised her face from her plate, "Sorry, I have so work later. The company assigned a pretty urgent project."
It was indeed a bit awkward to say, as he might have been soone she was once close to, but now he’s like a complete stranger. Throughout the al, she constantly sought topics to avoid any awkward silences.
It was quite exhausting, thankfully, there was still food to eat. If they went to a café, she couldn’t just keep drinking coffee.
"Since you’re full, let’s settle the bill then."
Vera waved her hand to call the waiter to settle the bill.
Seeing her taking out her wallet, Nathan imdiately pulled out his credit card from his wallet and handed it to the waiter.
"I’m really sorry," the waiter apologized, "You need to go to the counter to swipe the card."
"No need, I’ll pay." Vera handed over the cash she had taken out, "126, exact change. Please pack these ingredients in two boxes for ."
Nathan didn’t eat much, so she would take them ho and buy so seasoning, enough to make a al.
A mont later, the two walked out of the restaurant together. Seeing her carrying the plastic bag with vegetables, Nathan’s eyes flickered with concern, and he imdiately handed his credit card to her.
"Take this... you shouldn’t have to sacrifice like this."
