Wang Xiaoya was on the verge of tears. "What are you talking about, Vera? You’re so smart, quickly think of sothing!"
"It’s really nothing to worry about!" Vera snapped out of her thoughts and smiled reassuringly at Wang Xiaoya. "If the police were really going to investigate you, they would have co to arrest you by now. Don’t worry, everything’s fine!"
After Vera’s reassurance, Wang Xiaoya finally cald down a bit. Just then, there was a knock on the door, and she quickly put away her phone.
"I’ll head out first then."
Wang Xiaoya left the office. This ti, rlin Bradley ca in, phone in hand, her face alight with excitent as she approached Vera.
"You definitely haven’t seen the news yet, have you? Irene got beaten up! It’s so satisfying, look, look! That bitch totally deserved it. Let’s see how she can even show her face in public now."
Although she had reassured Wang Xiaoya, Vera herself was sowhat unsettled. She’d set this trap in a fit of pique. If Irene Spencer really did call the police, would they trace it back to Kris Cooper? Kris Cooper had called her last night, saying there were so minor conflicts related to the ga and he wouldn’t be able to co ho that evening.
From Tommy’s tone, Vera knew he must have been up all night. How could she bear to wake him when he’d only just fallen asleep?
"No, no, don’t. Just have him call back when he wakes up."
"Alright, I’ll hang up then?"
"Wait a mont." Vera bit her lip. "Did anyone call Kris this morning?"
"This morning?!" Tommy sounded surprised for a mont. "No."
"Oh... that’s good. Alright, let’s hang up then."
After hanging up, Vera sat down in her chair and massaged her temples. Just then, rlin Bradley pushed open her office door, excitedly beckoning her over.
"Vera, quick, co and see! It’s Irene Spencer’s press conference."
Vera imdiately got up and went out to rlin Bradley’s partition room. Sure enough, a live broadcast of Irene Spencer’s press conference was playing on the screen.
Irene Spencer herself was not present; her assistant, Anabel Wilton, was at the speaker’s podium.
