"Never again!"
These five words were shouted by Nathan Leafcastle, a man usually calm and composed, his voice sharp and hoarse, filled with endless pain.
Liliana Davis lifted her face, staring at her son on the stairs, reeking of alcohol, his clothes wrinkled and his face pale. She took a deep breath and walked up to him, stopping on a step before him, speaking gently.
"It’s just a woman, Nathan. You need to understand that losing so things isn’t all bad."
"Haha..." Nathan Leafcastle chuckled, "Just a woman?"
His laughter grew louder and sharper.
Perhaps to others, Vera Wave was just a woman, but to him, she was soone he had cherished since his first stirrings of love, a person he had longed for over a decade, and yet all ties were cut with just a phone call.
Never to et again?!
There is no greater pain in the world than this.
Turning, he headed upstairs, laughing all the way, tears spilling from his eyes, until his laughter turned into sobs.
"Nathan!"
Liliana Davis hurried after him, but he had already entered his bedroom, slamming the door heavily in her face.
She twisted the doorknob, but couldn’t open it, so she raised her hand and knocked on the door.
"Nathan, I know you’re in great pain right now, but love cannot be forced. You should understand..."
Bang!
Sothing was thrown and smashed against the door, breaking with a loud crash, the sll of alcohol perating the air.
"If you hadn’t divorced Dad back then, if you hadn’t taken to Australia, things would have been different... I hate you both, I hate you!"
Nathan Leafcastle’s voice ca from inside the door, filled with helpless agony.
Back then, he had chosen to go with his mother out of pity, not wanting to see his parents divorce, but the day after, she insisted on taking him away.
At the ti, his mother begged him tearfully, so he reluctantly followed her to Australia.
Later, when he heard she was going to Arica, he joyfully expressed his desire to go with her. After receiving her call, he went to see his mother imdiately, asking to study in Arica, but she didn’t agree, instead arranging for him to attend a school in Singapore.
"Nathan, you’re all your mother’s hope. This ti, I’m begging you!"
With her tears, his mother successfully persuaded Nathan Leafcastle to join her on a plane to Singapore, separating him from Vera Wave by half the world’s ti zones, their distance growing ever greater.
He was overwheld with dual majors, and in her new environnt, Vera was just as busy.
She was in daylight; he was in darkness; even phone calls beca inconvenient, so they resorted to emailing.
Initially, she wrote emails every day, describing her discomfort in the new environnt, but gradually, the emails beca less frequent. Sotis, he’d send several before she replied to one.
Walking different paths, with diverse social circles, they drifted further apart, eventually losing their common language.
Staring at the liquor pooling on the floor, Nathan Leafcastle seed to hear sothing shattering in his chest, and then darkness completely engulfed him.
He collapsed heavily, hitting the floor.
Startled by the sound from the room, Liliana Davis was frightened.
"Nathan... Nathan, answer , don’t scare your mother..."
She pounded on the door anxiously, receiving no response. Turning away, she quickly ran to the study room, retrieved a spare key, unlocked the door, and rushed inside, only to find Nathan Leafcastle lying on the floor, unconscious and pale.
