Through a cloud of dust, he saw a small figure lying on its side in a shallow pit.
Half of her skirt was stained with muddy water, her small face as pale as paper.
"Vera!" Rushing over, he carefully lifted her from the muddy water. Kris Cooper gazed at the girl in his arms, her eyes tightly shut. "Vera! Vera!"
There were no visible injuries on her; she rely swayed with his movents, utterly unresponsive.
Swallowing a lump in his throat, he held his breath, slowly raising his fingers to her neck.
Beneath his fingers, her skin was still delicate. At her neckline, faint hickeys were visible, but he was in no state of mind to care about that now.
He held his breath until he felt the faint throb of her pulse beneath his fingers. Only then did he release the breath he’d been holding, a slight sigh of relief escaping him. Picking her up, he turned and sprinted back, shouting hoarsely as he ran.
"Tommy Taylor... bring the car... now!"
"Boss... okay..."
Hearing his voice, Tommy Taylor turned around imdiately and ran towards the car.
At this point, the director and others also ca over.
Tommy Taylor drove the car over. Soone imdiately pulled the car doors open, and Kris Cooper, holding Vera Wave, scrambled inside. He started yelling before he was even properly seated.

The driver brought the nanny van over. Irene Spencer pulled Anabel Wilton into the car. "Quick, follow Kris Cooper’s car!"
Anabel Wilton held onto the car door. "I haven’t gotten my bag and phone yet!"
