"You heard that, right?" Kris Cooper reached over and hung up the phone, then smiled at Vera Wave, "I didn’t make that up, did I?"
Vera pursed her lips, "But you talked just now. He’s your friend, so of course he’d help you."
She had long forgotten the events of six years ago. Kenton Maverick’s hesitation just now inevitably aroused her suspicion.
Kris Cooper really wanted to bash his head against the phone; a single misstep brings everlasting regret. He was afraid of letting her know the secret back then, so he had specifically instructed those two, and now it had turned into a pit he dug for himself.
"I have my reasons for doing this."
"What reasons?"
"The reason is..."
Halfway through speaking, Kris Cooper stopped again. Should he tell her what happened?
No, the truth is too cruel. He can’t tell her!
While he was pondering how to explain, Vera spoke again.
"Can I... can I call Brother Andre to ask?"
Vera hadn’t had much contact with Kenton Maverick, and that man had always been sowhat aloof and reticent. Coupled with his status, he always gave off a feeling of distance.
In contrast, Vera had more trust in Andre Colin.
If he said no, she’d definitely beco suspicious again. If he said yes, would Andre Colin tell the truth?
In the end, he finally nodded.
He didn’t want to tell her the truth, so now he could only hope that Andre Colin would guess the situation and help him out with this favor.
Vera dialed Andre Colin’s number on her phone, and monts later, the call connected. She reached out to turn on the speakerphone.
"Brother Andre, I’m sorry to bother you so late."
Kris Cooper half-knelt in front of her, his heart full of anxiety.
Andre Colin, you must tell the truth!
"It’s okay. I’m looking for sothing, so I haven’t slept yet."
"Well... I want to ask you a question, and you must tell the truth."
"Okay."
"Did I... did I know Kris Cooper before, back in the USA?"
On the other end of the line, Andre Colin also hesitated slightly.
On this end, Kris Cooper listened to Vera’s question, already tense to the extre.

If he lied to her again this ti, she truly would have no reason to stay.
After a few seconds of silence, Andre Colin finally spoke into the receiver.
"Vera, I don’t know why you’re asking this, but right now, I want to tell you the truth."
At this mont, both the man and the woman held their breath, waiting for his next words.
"Actually, Kris once instructed not to tell you the truth. I’ve thought about this all night. I feel that you have the right to know the truth. In fact, you did know each other, and not just know each other. Back then, you and Kris were deeply in love, even preparing to get married. Later, you left without a word. During those days, he nearly went insane." Andre Colin’s voice was low and slow, filled with empathy for his friend’s heartache, "Kris is impetuous at tis and can be impulsive.
