Mary chuckled. "Isn’t this turning over a new leaf and returning to the straight and narrow?"
"You, a prodigal son?" Kate burst into laughter. "At most, you’re a prodigal daughter!"
Mary reached over to pinch her waist. "Chubby, are you asking for trouble?"
Since the last incident, Mary had found her place in the office again. By relying on her actual abilities, she gradually earned everyone’s acceptance and also grew closer to Kate and the others. Influenced by them, as the saying goes, ’He that lies down with dogs must rise up with fleas,’ she was now working extrely hard.
"Alright." Having had their fun, Mary turned to Vera seriously. "Manager, I have to say, I’m really grateful to you. If it wasn’t for you, I’d still be, well, just like them!"
"It’s because of your own hard work, not ." Vera picked up a piece of beef. "By the way... how’s Kylo doing now?"
"Her?" Mary shook her head slightly. "That woman was detained for fifteen days. I’m not sure if she’s out yet... Let’s not talk about her, just eat. ntioning her makes sick!"
Back then, Kylo tried to pin the bla on her. Luckily, Kris Cooper saw through it. Otherwise, Mary, not Kylo, would have been the one taken to the station. Therefore, Mary naturally harbored a lot of resentnt towards Kylo.
"But, Manager, I have to warn you," Mary added. "When I was out a while ago, I saw a bunch of reporters outside looking like hungry wolves. You need to be careful when you leave work today."
"These paparazzi are so annoying!"
"Absolutely! Celebrities are people too. They snap pictures of their private lives every day. Who they’re dating is none of their damned business!"
As they were still expressing their disgust about the reporters, rlin Bradley’s phone rang. Without even glancing at the screen, she answered the call.
"Hello, who is this?"
"I’m looking for Vera!"
"Why are you calling if you’re looking for Vera? You’ve got the wrong number!" rlin Bradley hung up imdiately. "These journalists are crazy; they even have my number? Just calling to ask for Vera..."
Saying that, she stopped abruptly, scrambled to pick up her phone, and checked the last call. The screen clearly displayed "BOSS". Kris Cooper had previously called her while looking for Vera, and she had saved his number in her contacts.
She had hung up on the big BOSS and had been rude to him! rlin Bradley regretted it so much she almost bit her tongue.
BUZZ!
The phone rang again.
rlin Bradley was startled and nearly dropped her phone into her rice. Seeing the caller ID listed as "BOSS," she hastily handed the phone to Vera.
"Vera, you... you take it!" Her deanor was like she was holding a ticking bomb.
"Who is it?" Vera took the phone, confused.
"BO...BOSS!" rlin Bradley stuttered.
"Hello?" Vera answered the call.
"What happened to your phone?" On the other end of the call, Kris Cooper sounded concerned. He had tried calling her mobile, but it was off, and her office phone wasn’t connecting. He learned from Kate Palr that she had gone downstairs for lunch. Thus, he had resorted to calling rlin Bradley’s mobile to finally track down his elusive young lady.
"Reporters keep calling , so I turned my phone off. Is sothing up?"
"Nothing much. Just a reminder: don’t go out unnecessarily. There are many reporters outside. I’ll co to pick you up later to avoid any hassle."
"Okay."
"See you after work then."
"See you after work!"
Don’t wait for in the group chat. Important things are said three tis: don’t wait, don’t wait, don’t wait.
Kris is a gentleman, not a rabbit. Everyone just keep following Kris.
