Lifting his gaze, Nathan Leafcastle saw Vera Wave facing Kris Cooper, looking at Kris’s face with deep concern.
Kris Cooper feigned pain, all while shooting Nathan a look mixed with provocation and smugness.
Vera Wave stared intently at his face for a good while but found no signs of redness or swelling.
"Your face looks fine. It’s not red or swollen. Where does it hurt?"
Kris Cooper frowned, pulling the young woman into his embrace.
"He must have given internal injuries! Ouch... my heart aches so much!"
Hearing the tone of his voice, she knew he was perfectly fine. Annoyed, Vera Wave punched him on the chest.
"You’re terrible! You scared to death!"
Kris Cooper lowered his head and kissed her hair. "Mmm... much better now!"
Realizing Kris Cooper was doing all this deliberately, Nathan Leafcastle seethed with anger, yet felt utterly powerless.
From start to finish, Vera Wave hadn’t even glanced at him; in her eyes, there was only Kris Cooper. This realization pained him far more than Kris Cooper’s punch.
Just then, Vera Wave turned from Kris Cooper’s embrace and looked at Nathan Leafcastle with concern.
"Brother Nathan, are... are you okay?"
What man would willingly show weakness in front of the woman he loved?
Although his stomach was still cramping painfully, Nathan Leafcastle straightened up. Gritting his teeth against the pain, he managed a smile for her.
"I’m fine!"
"I’m not!" Kris Cooper gestured to Security with his chin. "Call the police and tell them soone assaulted !"
The young woman had arrived too quickly. He’d only landed one punch; it was far from satisfying!
"Kris!" Vera Wave turned back and shook his arm. "Just let it go."
"He hit , and I should just let it go?"
"No... he didn’t actually hit you, did he? Besides... you punched him too, I saw it all!" Vera Wave shook his arm again, pleading in a low voice, "Please, darling, let’s just drop it, okay?"
Kris Cooper raised his right hand and extended one finger.
The young woman pouted and shot him a glare, but in the end, she rose on her tiptoes and gave him a light peck on the lips.
The two of them were already so in sync that she understood what he ant without him needing to say a word.
Kris Cooper put his arm around her shoulders. "Alright, since my dear wife is interceding, I’ll just consider myself bitten by a dog and not pursue it!"
Even though he wasn’t going to press charges, he still had to get in a sarcastic jab.
Vera Wave reached out and gave his waist a firm pinch.
"Honey, don’t touch like that, it tickles!"
Her face flushed red with a mix of embarrassnt and annoyance. She glanced at Nathan Leafcastle, then at Dr. Winson Sumrton, and it suddenly dawned on her. She imdiately pulled Kris Cooper’s hand off her shoulder.
"Dr. Sumrton, Brother Nathan... I’m sorry, my phone... it’s having so issues, I can’t use it."
"That’s quite alright." Dr. Winson Sumrton was now smiling. "So, when can we talk?"
"Well..." Vera Wave glanced at Kris Cooper. "Doctor, I... I’ve given it serious thought, and I don’t want to continue with the treatnt. I’m truly sorry to have troubled you to co all this way."
Dr. Winson Sumrton and Nathan Leafcastle both looked astonished.
"Why?" Dr. Winson Sumrton imdiately asked.
Of course, Vera Wave was too embarrassed to say that she had promised Kris Cooper. She rely shrugged. "I’ve been too busy lately. I don’t have the ti!"
"Vera!" Nathan Leafcastle exclaid, unable to accept it. "Why are you putting yourself through this?"
"Brother Nathan, I know you an well." Vera Wave’s lips curved into a slight smile. "I’m not suffering. I think I’m doing perfectly fine right now."
"That’s nonsense!"
Nathan Leafcastle took a step forward and grabbed her arm.
