They all knew about his girlfriend. With such a big incident, it was impossible for them not to have heard.
Lucille Matthias took the statent from the table, reading it carefully for a while, then raised her face. "Apart from Vera, was there anyone else there?"
Kris Cooper shook his head.
"Were there any surveillance caras or anything of the sort there?"
Kris Cooper still shook his head, and Lucille’s brow furrowed.
"Why did Liliana Davis co to see you, really?"
Kris Cooper still shook his head.
"Aunt Lucille, I can’t say."
"Kris!" Lucille Matthias looked at him seriously. "Can’t you even tell ?"
Kris Cooper pursed his lips. "No."
Lucille Matthias stared at his face for a full five seconds before shifting her gaze.
"Alright, I will ensure that this matter is thoroughly investigated. If you are innocent, I will find a way to clear your na."
"Thank you, Aunt Lucille."
She stood up, patted his shoulder, and turned to leave the room. "Michael Freenan!"
Michael Freenan imdiately approached. "Chief Lucille!"
"Has the autopsy report co out yet?"
"Not yet."
"Notify imdiately when the report cos out." Lucille Matthias glanced at the room she had just left. "Arrange a comfortable room for him."
Michael Freenan nodded. "Rest assured."
As soon as he finished speaking, Lucille Matthias’s phone started ringing. Seeing that it was Bailey Hansen calling, she quickly climbed the stairs before answering.
"Bailey, I just saw Kris. Don’t worry, I will personally oversee this case... Yes, see you tomorrow."
"Dad... Dad..."
Vera Wave awoke from a nightmare, covered in cold sweat. She opened her eyes, looked around, and realized that it had just been a dream.
Outside the window, it was already dusk.
She looked around, got up, and went into the washroom to wash her face. She sighed as she saw her pale reflection in the mirror, then left the bedroom.
As she was halfway down the stairs, she saw Tommy Taylor opening the door. The lawyer ca in with Lucille Matthias.
Tommy Taylor imdiately stepped forward. "How is it?"
The lawyer shook his head. "This current situation is very unfavorable to Mr. Cooper."
A sense of foreboding filled Vera’s heart, and she quickened her steps down the stairs.
"Where is Kris?!"
Tommy Taylor and the lawyer exchanged glances. In the end, Tommy Taylor was the one to answer.
"Mr. Cooper... he’s at the police station."
"What?!" Vera’s eyebrows jerked. "Why?"
The lawyer frowned. "The plaintiff has filed a lawsuit. According to regulations, the police can detain him."
"When... can he co back?"
"Well..." The lawyer hesitated for a mont. "It’s hard to say right now. If the case is formally filed and the other party presses charges, then it’s difficult to say for sure."
Vera Wave knitted her brows. "But Kris didn’t kill anyone. I saw with my own eyes that Miss Davis fell by herself. It was just an accident."
"Facts are facts. However, once a case is officially filed, an investigation must be conducted. This is a mandatory legal procedure. The case will undoubtedly go to court, and the proceedings will not be short." The lawyer frowned, filled with worry. "Currently, we have no evidence. If we have to go to court, it would be very unfavorable for Mr. Cooper."
"Miss Wave can testify!" Tommy Taylor said.
"Yes, I can testify. He is innocent."
"It’s not that simple." Lucille Matthias frowned and spoke. "Vera and Kris are a married couple now. If there is no strong evidence to prove her statent, the judge won’t give much consideration to her testimony."
