"We might as well wait awhile then!"
Lucille Matthias strode over, said sothing to a staff mber, then led the others to a nearby lounge to rest.
Several people took seats, but Kris Cooper didn’t sit. Instead, he headed to the window, staring at the parking lot outside through the glass, his brows tightly furrowed.
「Half an hour later.」
One of his subordinates called to notify them that they could go into the reception room.
Upon hearing the news, he was the first to turn around, quickly heading for the reception room.
Kris Cooper was the first to rush into the reception room. Vera Wave was sitting there waiting.
At the sound of the door opening, she lifted her face, only to see Kris Cooper storming towards her with a grave expression, reaching out to grab her arm.
"You foolish girl! Are you out of your mind?!"
"Sir, please calm down!"
The staff mber saw his agitation and imdiately rushed to intervene, attempting to restrain him, but Kris Cooper forcefully shrugged him off.
The staff mber frowned, about to protest angrily, when fortunately, Lucille Matthias and the others arrived just in ti.
"Stop!"
Lucille Matthias called out, halting the staff mber. She then waved her hand gently, and the staff mber imdiately bowed to her before retreating out the door.
Clutching Vera Wave’s arm, Kris Cooper urged in a desperate tone, "You need to tell Auntie Lucille and the lawyer everything right now. You had nothing to do with this. You’re going to get yourself killed!"
"Kris Cooper!" Vera Wave looked up at him, her face calm. "I know you’re trying to help, but I won’t drag you into this. I did this, and I must take responsibility."
"You’re talking nonsense!" Kris Cooper bellowed. "This has nothing to do with you!"
"Kris Cooper..." Vera Wave looked at him calmly. "Stop making a fuss!"
Kris Cooper gritted his teeth, attempting to pull her to her feet.
CLANG!
He had managed to pull her halfway up, but her arm was still shackled to the table. The handcuff left a white mark on her slender skin.
"Kris Cooper!" Christoper Cooper snapped. "Calm down!"
Only then did Kris Cooper notice the handcuffs on her wrist. Hastily, he released her arm, righted the chair that had been knocked askew, and helped her sit down again.
He crouched down, placing his hands on Vera Wave’s knees. Gazing at the girl’s pale face, his tone softened again. "Vera, I know what you’re thinking, but this isn’t that simple. If things aren’t handled well, you could go to prison. This isn’t a joke. Be good, tell the truth, and co ho with , okay?"
Her eyes grew warm, her throat felt constricted as if sothing were lodged there, and she could barely breathe.
Vera Wave slowly clenched her fists and then averted her gaze from his eyes.
"Kris Cooper, I can’t go back!"
If it were possible, she wished that none of this had ever happened.
She wished she was still the Vera Wave of six years ago, and he was still the Kris Cooper of six years ago—their lives carefree, each day passing joyfully as if in a dream.
But every ti she saw him, saw Christoper Cooper, she would always rember the image of her father falling to the ground...
She had tried not to think about it, but she just couldn’t.
He was good to her. Christoper Cooper and Bailey Hansen were also so kind to her. She couldn’t bring herself to hate them; she tried hard to ignore those things, but she truly couldn’t.
Even if she managed to control herself during the day, she would still dream about it at night. In her dreams, her father would helplessly jump, then fall heavily to the ground, a river of blood forming around him...
"You can, Vera. Just tell the truth; this whole thing had nothing to do with you in the first place..."
