Vera Wave lowered her gaze, clenching her teeth.
"Kris Cooper, give it up. I won’t change my statent."
After that, no matter what he said or how he pleaded, she just bit her lip and remained silent.
"Alright then, you like going to jail, don’t you?" Kris Cooper stood up abruptly and bellowed, "I’ll join you! I’ll tell everyone right now that I killed Liliana Davis. I lured her there, I set the trap deliberately, I murdered her..."
"Kris Cooper!" Vera Wave called his na through gritted teeth, gradually lifting her face. "If you dare do this, I’ll sever all ties with you!"
The man froze, his amber eyes staring at her incredulously.
"Say that again?"
Vera Wave avoided his gaze, rely lowering her eyes slightly.
"If you dare to do this, I’ll... sever all ties with you."
"Great! Very good!" the man roared. "Sever all ties, is that it? Fine! Let’s do it now! Let’s sever them completely, right this instant!"
Clenching his hand into a fist, Kris Cooper slamd it onto the table, then turned and stord out.
Hearing his footsteps fade into the distance, Vera Wave rely lowered her gaze and sank back into her chair, slowly tightening her already clenched fists.
The wedding ring was still on her finger, digging painfully into her skin from the force of her grip.
"I’ll go see him."
Christopher Cooper turned around and chased after him.
Lucille Matthias ca over, resting her hands on Vera Wave’s shoulders.
"Vera, I know you love Kris Cooper. But if you’re trying to take the bla to clear his na like this, he’ll never accept it."
"Lucille!" Vera Wave kept her head down, struggling to control her emotions. "I’m not. I really did it!"
Lucille Matthias turned her gaze to Sophia Thompson, who rely shrugged.
Sophia Thompson said, "Lucille, let talk to her."
"Then I’ll go check on Kris," Lucille Matthias replied.
Lucille Matthias nodded, squeezed Vera Wave’s shoulder encouragingly, and then walked out of the room.
Sophia Thompson walked over, pulled up a chair, and sat down in front of Vera Wave.
"Ms. Thompson, everything I’ve said is true," Vera Wave took a deep breath, her gaze fixed on the small window on the wall. "If you’re also here to try and persuade , then you can save your breath."
"You’re wrong," Sophia Thompson said, shaking her head gently. "I’m not here to persuade you. I’m here to help you."
Vera Wave turned her head to look at her.
Sophia Thompson spoke calmly, "Once you’re in court, the opposing counsel will undoubtedly ask you many questions. They’ll try to drag Kris Cooper into this. If you don’t want that to happen, you must know how to handle their tricky questions."
Vera Wave stared at Sophia Thompson for a full ten seconds before finally speaking softly.
"Please teach ."
And so, the two of them began a serious discussion. It continued for a full half hour, until a staff mber ca in to inform them that their ti was up.
A staff mber removed her handcuffs and began to lead her towards a cell. Sophia Thompson spoke from behind her.
"Vera, a woman’s youth is fleeting. A few years is a long ti, enough to change many things. Have you truly decided?"
Vera Wave stopped and took a deep breath.
Then, she nodded.
She needed ti. She needed a quiet place to think. This was the best way. It could save him, and it would also give her a chance to think carefully about her future, about what path her life should take.
「... ...」
Christopher Cooper chased out of the building. Before he even reached the parking lot, he saw the driver running towards him. The driver spotted him and imdiately stopped.
"The Young Master wanted the car keys. His expression... I didn’t dare give them to him."
