Vera Wave gazed intently into her eyes. "Are you really wrongly accused?"
Anabel Wilton scrutinized her. "Why...why are you asking this?"
"The person who wants to kill , is it really Irene Spencer?" Vera asked again.
Anabel Wilton sneered coldly. "If I say so, will you believe it?"
"If what you’re saying is true, I will try to find a way to help you out," said Vera.
"Just you?" Anabel Wilton laughed coldly. "A clay idol crossing a river can’t even save itself. You can hardly protect yourself, let alone save . If the Cooper family were truly all-powerful, would you have ended up in here?"
"If you don’t want to talk, then forget about it. Don’t regret it in the future."
Vera got up, walked over to her bed, pulled back the covers, and lay down.
Anabel Wilton watched her for a mont from across the room, then turned over, pulling up the blanket and covering her head. Seeing Irene Spencer’s na on the headboard, she reached out again, scratching a harsh line across it with her fingernail.
...
...
The next morning, Isla Hawskin ca as promised.
She brought not only two pairs of flat sneakers for Vera but also many food items and daily necessities. As she watched Vera through the glass window, Isla Hawskin’s eyes were full of heartache.
"Vera, are you okay?"
"I’m fine." Vera smiled at her and looked around. "Isla, I need your help with sothing!"
"Tell , as long as I can do it."
"Um," Vera pressed her lips together, "Is Kris Cooper at the company recently?"
"He went to the U.S. for a business negotiation; he’ll probably be back in three to five days."
No wonder he hadn’t shown up these past two days. So, he went abroad.
"Then, please hurry and help find a lawyer."
"A lawyer?" Isla Hawskin frowned. "You an Lawyer Mu?"
Vera shook her head. "Not her. Find soone else. Do it quietly, without telling anyone else. You can advance the money for , and I’ll pay you back once I’m out."
Isla Hawskin looked at her quizzically. "Vera, what are you planning to do?"
"I want to apply to serve my sentence outside of prison. Get a lawyer to prepare the docunts for ."
"Serve your sentence outside of prison?" Isla Hawskin wrinkled her brow. "Are you...are you sick?"
"I’m not sick." Vera raised her hand and gently caressed her belly. "I’m pregnant."
According to the law, pregnant or breastfeeding won can apply to serve their sentences outside of prison.
With her grandma alone in the U.S. and a child in her belly, Vera couldn’t possibly continue staying in prison.
Besides, the food here lacked sufficient nutrition, and this environnt was entirely unsuitable for carrying a pregnancy to term.
The child was innocent, and moreover, it was her child with Kris Cooper.
"What?!" Isla Hawskin’s mouth dropped open wide enough to fit an egg. "Does...does the President know?"
Vera cast her eyes downward. "I... I haven’t decided whether to tell him yet."
"But..." Isla Hawskin wrinkled her eyebrows, looking puzzled. "What do you an? Aren’t you two husband and wife? Didn’t the President send you als every day not long ago?"
Vera pressed her temples. "Isla, I don’t want to talk about this now. I’ll explain the specifics to you once I’m out, alright?"
Isla Hawskin watched Vera through the glass for a while, finally nodding.
"Okay. Don’t worry, I’ll do my best."
Vera was led away by a guard. Isla Hawskin lifted her bag and walked out of the visitor’s room, soon spotting Tommy Taylor walking up the steps not far away.
"Assistant Taylor, you...why are you here?"
"The President is abroad and was worried about Miss Wave, so he asked to co and see how she’s doing." Tommy Taylor approached her. "Are you also here to see Miss Wave?"
"Yes." Isla Hawskin nodded. "Then... you should go in. I’ll head off now."
"Miss Hawskin!" Tommy Taylor called out to her. "It’s hard to get a cab from here. Please wait a mont; I’ll give you a ride back."
The prison was in a remote location, and it was indeed difficult to get a cab. Isla Hawskin thought for a mont, then agreed and returned to the visitor’s room with him.
Tommy Taylor stated his purpose for the visit, only to be imdiately rejected by the staff.
"Vera Wave cannot be visited again today."
