This ti, the call finally connected.
"Vera, I..."
However, it wasn’t Vera Wave speaking, but Kris Cooper, his voice stern and forceful from the other end of the line.
"She won’t answer your calls anymore. If you have even a shred of genuine concern for her, don’t disturb her."
Then the line was disconnected again.
The dial tone echoed in the receiver as Nathan Leafcastle weakly lowered it back onto the cradle, leaned against the sofa, and did not attempt to touch the phone beside him again.
On the other end of the signal.
Kris Cooper glanced at the silent phone, reached out to embrace Vera Wave, and comfortingly kissed her hair.
"It’s all right now."
The vibrations on the table rang out again. He frowned and turned his head, thinking Nathan Leafcastle was calling again. Seeing his own phone light up, he quickly picked it up to answer.
"Mr. Cooper, Irene Spencer has t with Nathan Leafcastle."
On the other end was the voice of his planted informant.
"When?"
"Just now, about ten minutes ago, Irene Spencer found Nathan Leafcastle there. They chatted for a while, and then Irene Spencer drove away."
Kris Cooper curled his lips into a cold smile, "I knew they wouldn’t let it go. Keep a close watch on those two. Inform imdiately of any news."
Irene Spencer had just gone to see Nathan Leafcastle, and Nathan Leafcastle called Vera Wave soon after – it must have sothing to do with the eting.
"What’s wrong?"
Seeing him put away his phone, Vera Wave asked curiously.
"Irene Spencer just t with Nathan Leafcastle." Kris Cooper shrugged, "I suspect those two are planning sothing again. Just don’t go out alone for the next few days."
"Do you an..." Vera furrowed her brows, "Brother Nathan is teaming up with Irene Spencer against us?"
"I think..." Kris Cooper pressed his lips together, "Their target might be , not you."
This sentence was clearly ant as comfort, not wanting to upset Vera.
After all, what Nathan Leafcastle and Irene Spencer did had already hurt her deeply.
Rembering this, Vera didn’t speak again, and Kris Cooper reached out to pull her into his arms.
"Don’t worry, soon... this will all be over."
Vera lifted her head from his embrace, her bright eyes also filled with worry, "You also need to be careful. Irene Spencer is too treacherous."
"I know." Kris Cooper reassured her with a smile, "It’s getting late, get so rest. This ti, I’ll definitely catch her in the act and make her pay."
Settling her onto the pillow, Kris Cooper lay beside her, one arm around her, the other soothingly stroking her back.
Under his comfort, Vera soon felt sleepy and drifted off in his arms.
Yet in the night sky, Kris Cooper remained alert, reaching out to turn off the light and fall into deep thought in the darkness.
What are Irene Spencer and Nathan Leafcastle up to this ti?
...
...
In the sa night, Nathan Leafcastle also remained awake.
He walked into the bathroom, washed his face with cold water, and when he entered the study room and sat down at the computer, his face was alert.
He booted up the computer, quickly accessing a search webpage, and soon found news about Irene Spencer. Countless results imdiately jumped out on the screen.
Including articles about her twice harming herself in prison, statents from her lawyer claiming she had consistently suffered from ntal health issues, as well as dia speculation that Irene Spencer was actually the true perpetrator of the explosion case.
