Hundreds of billions of creations roared in unison at the exact sa mont.

The sound defied description.

It was the screech of tal grinding against tal, the crash of flesh against flesh, the shrill wail of energy, the anguished cry of space itself as elents collided.

These noises fused into a soul-shattering sound wave that rolled outward from the center of the battlefield in every direction, forcing even the seventh-ring wizards hovering high above to subconsciously reinforce their ntal defenses.

The war of the cannon fodder legions had begun.

From high above, this once-lifeless gray-white wasteland was now covered by two tides of utterly contrasting color.

One surging force belonged to the allied armies of the Chaos Secret Cult and the Tower of Annihilation.

Deep crimson flesh behemoths advanced like moving mountains, their surfaces streaming with pus and arcs of electricity; each step cracked the earth beneath them.

Gray-white skeletal legions marched in silence, cold soul flas flickering in their hollow eye sockets, their bone weapons engraved with annihilation runes.

Hovering in midair were countless deford flying units—so resembling skinned bats, others a grotesque fusion of eyeballs and tentacles, and so simply ever-shifting masses of shadow.

The vast majority of these cannon fodder units ranged from third to fifth level, but their numbers… were beyond counting.

They advanced like a true tsunami, overwhelming Noren Workshop’s defensive line through sheer volu alone.

Ahead of them stood a steel great wall ford by the connection of hundreds of pitch-black tal fortresses.

Across the surface of every fortress, billions of defensive runes flickered in fixed rhythms, weaving a semi-transparent pale golden energy shield from foundation to summit.

The shield was not thick—in fact, it seed almost thin—but its coverage was imnse.

With each fortress serving as a node, the energy fields linked and resonated, ultimately forming a colossal composite defensive array that spanned thousands of kiloters.

The cannon fodder flood of the Chaos Secret Cult and the Tower of Annihilation slamd into this “light wall” with ferocious force.

The foremost tens of thousands of flesh behemoths began to disintegrate the instant they made contact with the shield.

Skin carbonized, muscle lted, bone shattered—they were erased from existence by the energy embedded within the shield.

But this was only the beginning.

Behind them, even more cannon fodder units surged forward in endless waves.

They ramd with their bodies, bombarded with energy breaths, and detonated themselves in attempts to tear open breaches.

Every impact sent ripples across the shield’s surface, causing violent fluctuations in the energy readings of the corresponding fortresses.

Yet the fortresses were not limited to passive defense.

The mont the cannon fodder legions entered range…

“Open fire.”

The command rippled through the ntal network, reaching the control hub of every fortress.

The next instant,

the entire steel great wall awoke like a colossal beast, opening countless eyes across its body.

On the walls of each fortress, hundreds of firing ports snapped open simultaneously.

Behind every port stood a specially designed “dium elent decomposition cannon.”

Though their power was inferior to the super-heavy main cannon that Jie Ming operated, they boasted faster firing rates, lower energy consumption, and were far more suited to clearing vast numbers of low-tier targets.

BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM!!!

Thousands upon thousands of beams poured forth like a torrential downpour from within the defensive light curtain.

The sight was as if the entire defensive line had suddenly sprouted countless glowing spikes.

The beams struck with precision into the densest concentrations of the cannon fodder legions.

Each hit carved out a perfectly circular “blank” zone dozens of ters in radius within the enemy ranks.

Every unit caught within the attack range—regardless of form or level—was reduced to fundantal particles in the decomposition beams, so long as it had not reached sixth level.

Yet even this was insufficient to halt the flood of hundreds of billions.

More cannon fodder units swiftly poured into the cleared spaces and continued their relentless advance.

They reached the shield and kept draining its energy reserves.

The shield’s glow began to dim at a speed visible to the naked eye.

And at that mont, Noren Workshop’s own cannon fodder legion moved.

But they did not charge beyond the shield.

There was no need.

“Let them in.”

Dionysius Spencer’s voice sounded across the dedicated channel for high-level wizards:

“If we keep draining energy like this, the reserves won’t hold. Open a few gaps in the protective shield. Let their cannon fodder press inside—we’ll play whack-a-mole!”

The order was executed instantly.

Several “weak points” suddenly appeared on the pale golden shield’s surface.

The cannon fodder of the Chaos Secret Cult and the Tower of Annihilation surged through the breaches like sharks scenting blood.

Naturally, the units that had been madly hamring the shield also redirected themselves toward the openings.

Then they crashed headlong into the waiting ranks of Noren Workshop’s cannon fodder legion.

The black giants silently raised their tower shields, compressing the invading enemies into narrow kill zones before sweeping them down in swathes with battle-axes.

Shadow warriors transford into flowing black walls; wherever they passed, intruders were devoured by shadow, assimilated, and converted into fresh shadow matter.

Constructs, elental creatures, and modified beasts released by other wizards also displayed their strengths, engaging in brutal close-quarters slaughter in the “alley warfare” zones between the fortresses.

This was a pure exchange of quantity for quality.

Every second, thousands upon thousands of cannon fodder units perished.

Yet Noren Workshop’s defensive line held firm.

The size of the gaps opened in the shield was limited; in a short ti, not enough cannon fodder could squeeze through.

Inside the defensive line, the average level of Noren Workshop’s cannon fodder units was higher, their individual combat power far greater. They enjoyed artillery support from the rear fortresses and the shield’s protection against direct assaults from most high-tier enemies.

More importantly—

in the airspace above the cannon fodder engagent zone, on the battlefield reserved for “high-tier cannon fodder” and “high-tier wizards,” Noren Workshop had not fallen behind.

Fortress No. 7, Third Cannon Control Room.

Jie Ming sat at Operation Console No. 09, eyes tightly shut, fine beads of sweat dotting his forehead.

His consciousness was currently deeply linked to Turret No. 3 of the “super-heavy elent decomposition cannon” mounted outside the fortress.

Wizards operated the turrets using a “rotation system.”

One wizard would take control of a cannon, fire until ntal power was exhausted, then disconnect. The next wizard would connect and continue firing.

The exhausted wizard would step aside to rest and recover ntal power.

At this mont, Turret No. 3 was charging.

Through the turret’s perception runes, Jie Ming “saw” the target zone.

It lay roughly fifty kiloters behind the cannon fodder battlefield—an area where Chaos Secret Cult fourth-level cannon fodder units were massing.

Approximately thirty thousand units resembling giant beetles were gathering under the command of several fifth-ring wizards, preparing for a fresh wave of assault.

“Lock on.”

Jie Ming silently intoned within his mind.

Inside the turret, more than seven million runes began to light up in perfect synchronization.

Vast quantities of elental energy were drawn from the temporary elental pool at the fortress base, channeled into the “conversion array” at the turret’s core, stripped of attributes, purified, compressed, and ultimately transford into pure “decomposition” power.

The ntal power consud by the conversion array during this process was astronomical.

An ordinary fifth-ring wizard operating such a cannon alone would be completely drained after a single shot and require at least several minutes of rest—along with ntal recovery potions—to regain even basic functionality.

That was why the wizards relied on the rotation system.

For wizards of lower rank, several would have to cooperate to operate a single cannon and fire even one shot.
