---

Kai staggered back and dropped to one knee. His claws shook slightly as the flood of energy settled into his body. It wasn’t like the Lurker or the Ravager. This was sothing deeper, sothing more... personal.

Feasting on one of his own kind. A two Star vice captain no less. If he eats more ants, then his stats will sky rocket. But it’s a sha... The Kin effect only triggered one ti in each star rank. If he eats a three star ranked Ant then he will get 30 all stats permanent boost. In four star rank, 40. Sa goes for the other star rank.

Kai sat down heavily beside the corpse, his breath ragged. Blood stained his claws. Bits of chitin clung to his mandibles. He looked down at Vex’s motionless body, nothing but a husk now.

He had done it. He had killed Vex. And feast on him. It was very enjoyable. It was divine. The power. The clarity. The justice. It was everything Kai had yearned for in one sick, perfect mont.

He opened his status window with a shaky breath.

He exhaled slowly. Power humd in his limbs like a second heartbeat. He is more Stronger, Faster, and Durable. But one question gnawed at his mind. "Where... where is the rest of the team?"

Why was Vex alone? Had they been ambushed by another beast? Had they fled deeper into the ravine when the Ravager appeared? Or... had they abandoned him, just like he abandoned Kai?

Or worse... had Vex betrayed them too?

He looked down at the mangled corpse again, this ti with a flicker of doubt. There was so much Kai didn’t understand about the hierarchy in the colony, about the politics among soldiers.

Maybe this death would lead to more than just strength. Maybe it would make him a target. He shook the thought aside.

"Let them co. I would kill them too."

The wind whispered through the trees, carrying with it the distant calls of night creatures waking. Chittering, screeching, the low hum of predatory wings in the shadows.

Kai looked toward the sky. Darkness had already begun to fall, stars blinking into life one by one. A crescent moon peeked over the treetops, illuminating the Ravine in silver light.

Night was here. And with it ca new dangers.

He stood and glanced around. His antennae twitched, searching for a safe place to spend the night. He wasn’t afraid, but he wasn’t foolish either. His strength had grown, yes but he was still alone.

Still one mistake away from death. He turned and walked deeper into the woods, leaving Vex’s remains behind. He didn’t look back. Before leaving he didn’t forget to collect the core of the vice captain Vex, a two star.

He would bury Vex’s mory with the rest of the things he no longer needed. The world had changed. He had changed. And tomorrow...

Tomorrow, he will hunt again. But this ti, not just for survival. This ti, he will hunt with purpose. With clarity. He needs to reach Two Star rank. The taste of vengeance still lingering on his tongue.

Kai’s footsteps were slow, deliberate, crunching softly over layers of moss and dead leaves. He was exhausted. "I need rest," he muttered.

Using his sensory skills, Kai eventually stumbled upon a half-sunken alcove nestled between two thick, mushroom-covered tree trunks. The ground here was soft, padded with a dry moss carpet. The canopy above was thick enough to block rainfall and scatter moonlight across the clearing. Most importantly, it was quiet.

"System, check for any danger lurking around this area," Kai ordered.

[DING! Aura Scan Complete. No imdiate threats detected within 100 ters.]

His antennae stopped twitching. "This would do." Kai gathered fallen branches and dry bark, then used a few herbs he’d stored for fire-starting. Within minutes, a small fire crackled gently in the center of the clearing.

Orange light danced across the trees, and the shadows retreated into the deeper woods. The warmth eased the tightness in his joints, and the rising smoke blended with the scent of a few roasted root bulbs and dried at.

For the first ti in days, he wasn’t rushing, fighting, or running. He sat cross-legged, back against the trunk of the larger tree, eyes half-lidded as the fire cast flickering light across his glossy black exoskeleton. His aura had partially recovered, but his stamina was low, and the ache in his chest hadn’t vanished entirely.

He sighed. Maybe this was peace, even if it was fleeting. But then... the air shifted.

A faint vibration, a rhythm too delicate for most to notice, moved through the soil.

He stiffened. His mandibles twitched as his Predator’s Instinct skill activated automatically.

[DING! System notifications: Unknown entity approaching.

Aura Signature: Non-hostile.

Rank: Four-Star.]

"Four-star?"

His body tensed. He rose to a crouch, silent and ready. His hand hovered over the edge of his soul-bound storage cube, fingers flexed.

Then the shadows parted. Moonlight spilled through a gap in the treetops, illuminating a figure erging from the forest edge.

She walked with the silence of fog, her white hair trailing behind her like a river of silver, braided loosely and tucked with bioluminescent blooms. Tall, graceful, and glowing faintly, she stepped into the firelight with fluid ease.

Her skin shimred like polished moonstone, and her long, rabbit-like ears perked in Kai’s direction. She wore a light, woven tunic, split at the hips for mobility, and twin curved blades rested easily at her lower back.

She didn’t raise a weapon. She didn’t speak right away. Instead, she smiled calmly, unbothered, and strangely amused.

Kai blinked. His instincts scread danger, but his body didn’t move.
