Zeir and Cyrus only had bruises on their faces, most likely from Calen’s punches. However, Azul was bleeding because Calen had bitten his shoulder.

In the end, Roxanna ran to her injured husbands first.

"Azul, your wound looks really bad!" She stood on her tiptoes so she could see his shoulder clearly.

She winced softly because it seed that Calen had bitten him very deeply and had even torn his skin. Even so, Azul showed no sign that he was in pain.

Yes, he frowned slightly, but other than that, nothing.

He didn’t even look bothered by the wound.

"I can heal you now," Roxanna said, worried that the wound might get worse if left untreated. She then turned to Zeir and Cyrus as well. "I can heal your bruises too. Maybe my saliva will be enough for that."

[Wait, doesn’t that an I have to lick their faces?!] Roxanna covered her mouth with her palm as her face suddenly turned bright red.

[S-So shaless! Why did I suggest sothing so embarrassing?!] she scread in her mind. [They’ll think I’m disgusting!]

Zeir and Cyrus turned their faces away slightly, and they shared the sa thought: I can’t wait for it.

"It’s alright," Azul said calmly as he pressed his hand against his bleeding shoulder, trying to stop it. "This will heal on its own. You don’t need to waste your precious blood."

"Besides, we should go after Calen now," he added. "Letting him wander alone at night isn’t safe."

Luan walked closer, but his eyes stayed fixed on the settlent gate. "He’s probably heading for the forest," he said. "Just like when he tried to run away from his old master."

"Luan, can you track him from the ground?" Zeir asked at last. He cleared all the shaless thoughts from his mind and decided to focus on Calen first.

Luan nodded without hesitation. "Yes, I can."

Within seconds, Luan shifted from his human form into a black cat. His fur was so dark that he blended perfectly into the night, and he made no sound at all as he walked, a perfect combination that allowed him to sneak anywhere unnoticed.

Unlike Skiv’s chonky cat, which looked like it could eat a whole chunk of at by itself, Luan’s cat form looked normal, not too big, not too small.

For so reason, he reminded Roxanna of one of her cats from the past. A cat her ex-husband had once thrown away.

Luan glanced back at them for a mont before running into the darkness of the night. His legs might have been smaller than a dog’s, but he was faster than Calen, probably as fast as the wind.

"Cyrus, you can track him from above," Zeir said.

Cyrus nodded in response. He then shifted into a bird and flew across the sky. However, because he had bright red feathers, he would be an easy target for predators.

Because of that, he had to fly very high, far above the ground, so the predators below wouldn’t be able to reach him easily.

When both of them left, Roxanna was left behind with only Azul and Zeir. Maybe that was also because their animal forms weren’t suited for tracking.

Azul was a betta fish. On land, all he could do was flop helplessly on the ground. Zeir, on the other hand, was an albino lizard, and his pale color made him easy to spot by night predators.

Even so, that didn’t an they wanted to stay behind. Even if their animal forms were useless for tracking, they could still move in their human forms.

"Roxanna, do you want to follow him?" Zeir asked seriously.

Honestly, he didn’t want to bring her into the danger of the night. But she was drowning in guilt over what had happened to Calen, and leaving her alone like this didn’t feel right either.

"But won’t I make it worse for him?" Roxanna asked worriedly. "Wasn’t his old master also following him when he tried to run away?"

"That’s true," Zeir said, nodding slowly. "But you’re not his old master. And deep down, he must have known you wouldn’t give him freedom just to mock him."

"His mind is probably in chaos right now," Azul added. "But that doesn’t an he’s completely lost. He might just need so ti to recognize who you really are."

Roxanna lowered her gaze, her fingers curling into her palms. The words made sense, yet her heart still felt heavy.

"What if I’m wrong?" she asked softly. "What if seeing only reminds him of the worst monts of his life?"

Zeir let out a soft breath. "Then we’ll be there to stop things before they go too far. You won’t face him alone."

Azul nodded in agreent. "Calen has survived far worse than this. He’s strong, and sowhere inside him, he still rembers the difference between pain and kindness."

"Besides, he looked really happy this morning, especially after you spent your ti hunting rabbits with him," Zeir said with a small smile. "I’ve never seen him that relaxed before. That’s why I know your presence won’t make him more stressed."

After being reassured again and again by both of her husbands, Roxanna finally nodded. "Alright, let’s catch him now!"

Zeir then carried her, while Azul followed behind. From a distance, Zeir could see Cyrus flying in the sky, so he followed his direction as well.

The night breeze felt extrely cold, but Roxanna was far more worried about Calen right now.

"I don’t think he went toward the cursed forest," Azul said. "Maybe... he went to—fuck! The rocky mountain?! That dog really wants to get himself killed!"

"What? What’s wrong with the rocky mountain?" Roxanna asked.

Zeir explained, "There’s a void there. It’s only a small one and will probably close again in about two months, but it’s still dangerous because there’s a nest of demon wolves there."

"They’re fast, vicious, and hunt in packs," Zeir continued, his grip tightening slightly as he carried her. "If Calen runs into them in his current state, things could turn ugly very quickly."
