Mia Grant rarely made promises, especially to soone as delicate and sensitive as Felix Sinclair.
Because she knew that Felix would take it very seriously.
She knew there were so things she shouldn’t say.

Mrs. Sinclair was watering flowers in the greenhouse. When she saw Felix approaching through the floor-to-ceiling windows, her expression was one of surprise.
Her gaze followed his figure all the way to the door.
Felix stepped inside. "Mom, good morning."
"Good morning..." Mrs. Sinclair paused, stunned. "Don’t you have class today?"
"I took the day off."
"What?" Mrs. Sinclair imdiately put down her shears, wiped her hands, and hurried over. "Are you not feeling well? You silly boy, how much did you drink last night?!"
"Didn’t the housekeeper say you were fine this morning? Should I call the doctor to co and check on you?"
"I’m fine." Felix gently took his mother’s hand and lowered it.
"Please, sit. I ca back to talk to you about the engagent between Mia and ."
He helped his mother sit down in a nearby chair.
Mrs. Sinclair had him sit down as well. "Oh, so you already know? I haven’t had a chance to tell you these past couple of days."
"Don’t you worry about the engagent. Just leave it to Mom."
A faint smile touched Felix’s eyes, and the sudden expression montarily dazed Mrs. Sinclair.
When she ca to her senses, she beca even more determined to have Mia marry into their family!
’I have to have her as my daughter-in-law!’
Because Felix didn’t co ho often, it had been a long ti since she’d seen her eldest son smile so happily.
’It really is first love. He’s not even trying to hide how much he likes Mia.’
’This is great, just great.’
When her son was happy, she was happy.
She wasn’t even this happy when she married Felix’s father back in the day.
She just hoped her dear Felix could always be this happy.
’Sigh.’
"Last night, Mom t Mia, and we talked a bit about your engagent. We hit it off right away, and I like her very much. Oh, I never had a daughter, so this is wonderful. It makes up for that regret."
"Mom," Felix said.
"Yes! Go on," Mrs. Sinclair said, looking at him with a beaming smile.
His chest rose and fell slightly. Felix let out a breath, looked into his mother’s eyes, and said seriously, "About the engagent with Mia... let’s just call it off."

The smile on Mrs. Sinclair’s face froze.
"You don’t like her? Or does she not like you? Did I misunderstand? But it didn’t seem like you disliked each other..."
Felix didn’t explain whether they liked each other or not, only saying, "We’re not right for each other at the mont."
"Neither of us has any intention of getting engaged."
Mrs. Sinclair understood.
"But getting engaged doesn’t have to get in the way of you two dating. Look, this is what I was thinking."
"First, this is just an engagent. You can schedule the wedding whenever you want. It’s not like you have to get married right after getting engaged. You can wait eight or ten years... though preferably a little shorter than that, haha. In any case, it’s not a problem."
"It’s just safer to lock things down early. I’m just worried that Mia is too sought-after."

"I swear, son, you can hold to it!"
Felix smiled and lowered his mother’s raised hand. "Mom, you don’t have to do that. I know that if that day ever cos, you’ll treat her well. I’ve always believed that."
"And thank you."
"We’re really not ready to take this step right now."
"It’s just because it’s not the right ti; it has nothing to do with anyone or anything else. Mia told herself that she likes you a lot, too. She said she wishes you were her mother."
Mrs. Sinclair knew Felix wasn’t joking.
If he was saying this, it ant he was dead set on calling off the engagent.
"Alright then. Since you’ve both put it that way, let’s cancel it. It’s true I was a bit impulsive and didn’t discuss it with either of you first."
"But that girl, Mia, she’s truly wonderful. We can’t just let her stay in that situation at the Grant Family’s house..." Mrs. Sinclair sighed. "I have to think of a way to help her."

After her first class ended, Mia Grant received a call from Yates Donovan.
"Do you need sothing?"
"Tsk, you heartless thing. If I don’t call you, you won’t call ? Why didn’t you reply to my ssage this morning?"
"I was in class."
"Class is over now?"
"You already knew that, didn’t you?" ’Otherwise, he wouldn’t have called right as class was letting out.’
After a pause, she asked, "Are you still in Portia? Or are you back already?"
"Still in Portia."
"Are you at the hospital? Hasn’t your second uncle woken up yet?"
"Nope." Yates’s playful tone ca through the phone.
"..."
Mia’s eyelashes trembled slightly. She hugged her textbook tighter and said nothing more.
"Why so quiet?"
"I don’t know what to say. Was there anything else you needed?"
"Nothing important. I just wanted to hear... your voice."
As Yates finished speaking, he lifted his eyes and glanced at the man sitting across from him.
The phone on the table was on speaker. Its screen was lit up, showing the contact na: [Jacob’s Little Sister].
Silas Grant glanced at it, then looked away, ignoring what seed like a silly, intimate ga between a young couple.
Through the receiver, Mia asked after a mont, "Is it just you?"
Yates shot a look at the man who had no intention of speaking, then chuckled. "Who else would it be? Is there anyone here who misses you more than I do, baby?"
"..."
"What do you want to hear say?"
"Anything. As long as it’s from you."
Footsteps could be heard over the phone, the CLICK-CLACK of the young woman’s leather shoes as she walked out.
She seed to have found a secluded spot. The background noise quieted, making her voice sound clearer and more captivating than before.
She said to him—or perhaps to the other one—"I’ll tell you a secret. I’m getting engaged."
