On the eve of Oath Version 1.5's launch, Carl entered a state of extre busyness.
The reason was simple. During this period, Carl had been acting as a teacher, instructing the refugees from the Holy Nation in all sorts of little tricks to seduce, no, to make players fall in love with them.
In the City of Glory, which had been designated as a protected zone, Carl replaced all the NPCs with refugees from the Holy Nation.
So of these refugees were assigned to beco rare shiny encounters for players to capture.
Others beca NPCs in charge of various Pokémon-related functions. So were healers who restored Pokémon, so were trainers who would challenge players the mont their eyes t on the roadside, and so were simply designed to be the childhood sweetheart next door.
In short, all of these NPCs were romanceable, and players could invite them to move into their own Netherworld Village.
What Carl taught these NPCs were all kinds of little tricks to make players' hearts skip a beat during the courtship process. To put it plainly, he was teaching them how to behave like love interests in a dating sim.
On top of that, there were also various ecological settings for the Pokémon living in the City of Glory. Large Pokémon and flying Pokémon could be used as mounts.
Fire-breathing Pokémon could help with cooking and slting iron, while Pokémon with hands could assist with construction, mining, and other village-developnt content.
Overall, Carl had taken the Cities of Glory inside the protected zones...
And conscientiously transford them into upgraded versions of Netherworld Village, packed with gaplay centered around looting, battling, extracting, village construction, and Pokémon collection, with NPC interaction and relationship-building as supporting features.
Although many of the details were still sowhat rough, the truly terrifying thing about Elysium was that all of these NPCs were real people with their own thoughts.
After Carl taught them how to win over players, he sent them back to the City of Glory to live their own lives.
Soon, the City of Glory would naturally build a warm, inviting world where Pokémon and Trainers lived together in harmony.
Then, just as everything was progressing smoothly, the two major informants under Carl's command, Anan on the NPC side and Mio inside Oath's official team, each brought him a troubleso piece of news.
"There's a group of Imperial spies hidden among the refugees from the Holy Nation? Honestly, that isn't surprising at all."
After finishing one of his teaching sessions, Carl t with Anan in the Main World.
Even though it had already been confird that the Abyssal Knights would serve as the main storyline for Version 2.0, Anan was still secretly providing Carl with all sorts of support.
One could only say that it was very much in line with the pragmatic style of this world's powerful figures.
"This is the list my knights have uncovered so far. Although they disguised their data signatures, they still couldn't hide from us."
Anan actually felt a little guilty now. After all, she had been the one who asked Carl to help this group of refugees. Who would have thought so many Imperial spies had managed to slip in among them?
And this was only the portion Anan had uncovered so far. There might still be others hidden even deeper.
"Can you guess what they slipped in here to do? Are they like the Saintess, planning to report Netherworld Village players?"
Anan tried to infer the Empire's purpose in sending so many spies inside.
"The Academy Head's reaction when she removed the Saintess already proved that strategy won't work. Even using it to threaten the Saviors wouldn't produce any positive results."
Anan felt that the only reason these elite Imperial soldiers had infiltrated Netherworld Village was to serve as combat assets against Carl.
"Uh, actually, they could still cause a lot of trouble. For example, they could play an NPC who becos very close to a player, then suddenly turn into a monster or betray them halfway through, leaving the player with emotional trauma."
Carl was already being modest. Destroying Netherworld Village's reputation was actually very simple. What the Saintess had done by reporting people was nothing more than child's play.
These Imperial spies only needed to play beautiful girl NPCs and act out a few cheating or betrayal storylines. That alone could be enough to end everything.
"Should we eliminate them in secret?" Anan's tone already carried a hint of killing intent.
"No need for now. If used properly, they could beco very reliable combat power. Instead, I'll have to trouble you, Ms. Anan, to assign more people to handle the screening work."
Only now did Carl realize that he had zero high-end combat power on the NPC side. He was relying entirely on the Abyssal Knights as outside support.
"You really don't plan to do anything?"
What Anan actually wanted to say was that if Carl intended to act, she was confident she could clear out most of the spies.
"My way of counterattacking might be a little different from what you're imagining."
Carl's gaze fell on the biggest na on the list Anan had provided.
The commander of the Hunter Knights, the new limited Annihilation character about to be released in Version 1.5, Migard.
Carl had not expected her to co to Netherworld Village as a spy as well. Most likely, she had personally infiltrated the place to scout the enemy.
"How do you plan to counterattack?"
Anan could not begin to guess what strange and unpredictable thod Carl had in mind this ti.
"We'll need to analyze it together with another problem. Ms. Anan, co with to Miss Migard's Open World."
At this stage, Carl still was not entirely sure how summon roster characters like the Saintess were using player identities to enter Netherworld Village.
It was possibly a permission granted by Oath's official team. This commander of the Hunter Knights was wandering around Netherworld Village as a player, not as a summon roster character.
And the other problem Carl ntioned ca from an Oath Version 1.5 Operations and Promotion Plan that Mio had sent him.
According to this plan, Oath finally intended to use the dirtiest thod available. They were hiring paid shills to stir up drama around Netherworld Village.
Recently, on various online forums, the discussion among Oath players had already started showing signs of chaos.
Normally, when this kind of gaming drama appeared, the official team should step in to manage it and calm things down.
But many ga companies not only had no intention of suppressing drama, they would even pour fuel on the fire behind the scenes.
Oath was clearly doing exactly that.
The person currently affected the most was Macchiato. After she switched from Oath to becoming a Netherworld Village player, everyone had initially enjoyed watching her loot, fight, and extract livestreams in Netherworld Village.
But recently, a large number of trolls had appeared in Macchiato's livestream chat, flooding it with inflammatory comnts and making the atmosphere unbearable.
This forced Macchiato to stop streaming for a while, but even after she stopped.
Under Oath's official instigation, the conflict between Oath players and Netherworld Village players grew larger and larger.
Originally, Carl really did not want to get involved in this.
Because Carl knew very well that those trolls who claid to be Oath players while aggressively attacking Netherworld Village players.
Were either paid shills hired by the official team, or the kind of terminally online players who spent their days picking fights after finishing their daily rants. Of course, there really were quite a few obsessive fans among them too.
Most players did not care about online drama at all. They were the type who would simply play both Oath and Netherworld Village.
But how should Carl put it? The drama had started.
Neutral players like Macchiato, who simply wanted to enjoy gas in peace, had instead beco targets of Oath's so-called loyal players.
At the very least, Carl now had to help Macchiato out of this predicant.
"Since Oath's official team insists on turning playing Oath into sothing players should feel embarrassed to admit, then I won't hold back either."
Carl went to Migard's Open World and invited Macchiato there at the sa ti.
"Shopkeeper, did you need sothing from ?"
Macchiato looked much more exhausted than before.
Recently, she had endured far too much drama. Oath's official team had been the one leading the charge against her livestream room.
So even though she was a ga character, she looked extrely haggard.
"Do you have any livestream plans recently?"
Carl glanced at the schedule. Oath Version 1.5 was about to launch, and Netherworld Village would also officially update with its open-world Pokémon-catching gaplay.
Normally, a ga strear like Macchiato should have been looking forward to the launch of a new version.
"Recently, it's a bit..."
Just as Macchiato was trying to organize her words and explain the problems she had encountered in the real world to Carl...
"It's fine. When the ti cos, I'll help you find another strear to draw the fire," Carl suddenly said.
Draw the fire? What fire? And how was he planning to draw it?
While Macchiato was still confused, Carl found Migard's location in this Open World.
(To be continued.)
