After a long wait, he replied with a single word: Mm.
Once she had his permission, Claire imdiately called him. "Mr. Quincy, Aiden Howkins gave a bank card and said it’s your salary card."
"The PIN is our wedding date."
"Oh..." ’That wasn’t what I wanted to ask.’
After a mont of hesitation, she took the plunge. "May I ask what your monthly salary is?"
Adrian Quincy seed to be in a good mood. He surprisingly didn’t refuse to answer her question. "My annual salary is just enough to buy this apartnt."
"Paid in full?"
"Mm-hmm."
"Wow, I had no idea working at Quincy Manor paid so well! No wonder so many people want to work there. It’s way better than a stable governnt job!"
The man fell silent.
’All right, I was just making a casual comnt.’
Claire gave a dry cough and quickly corrected herself. "I was just kidding. Please don’t take it to heart."
"Don’t call unless it’s an absolute ergency."
’His tone seed to have grown colder. I can’t tell if he’s always like this, or if I said sothing wrong to make him angry.’
’It’s probably the latter, isn’t it?’
Claire felt a little hurt. She quickly got to the point. "I’m sorry for disturbing you at work. What I actually wanted to ask was, are you coming ho tonight?"
’The mont the words left her mouth, she regretted them...’
’Quincy Manor is so huge, why would he ever co to a place like this? Asking such a question was just asking to be humiliated.’
Adrian Quincy asked in return, "You need sothing?"
"No, it’s nothing..."
He hung up imdiately.
His abruptness caught Claire off guard, and her heart sank for no apparent reason.
’Actually...’
’If he had said he was coming back, I would have gone to the supermarket, bought groceries, and cooked a huge dinner to celebrate having a new ho.’
’But if I’m just cooking for myself, the food just tastes bland.’
Claire couldn’t help but survey the vast living room. It was spotless, but there wasn’t a trace of warmth or personality. It wasn’t nearly as comfortable as the 800-a-month room she used to rent.
’I don’t like it here. I don’t like it one bit.’
’I don’t want to live in a place like this. I want to move out...’
’He’s not coming back anyway, so who cares what he thinks.’
Claire glanced at the ti. It wasn’t even lunchti yet, so there was still ti to go out and look for a new place.
She had always been a woman of action. Once her mind was made up, she started searching online for cheap apartnts to rent. After finding a few promising listings, she grabbed her bag and headed out the door.
Apartnt hunting wasn’t easy. By the ti she had seen a few places, it was already getting dark.
Claire found a place she liked: a small studio in the West District. The rent was only 750 a month, the neighborhood was nice and lively, and it had all the necessary anities nearby.
Before leaving, Claire paid the landlord a deposit, planning to move in the next day.
By the ti she got back to Evergreen Garden, it was completely dark. She was so hungry her stomach was growling, and she had no energy to cook. Instead, she stopped by the convenience store in the complex and bought a cup of instant noodles to take ho.
While waiting for the water to boil, Claire took out her laptop and turned it on.
As the laptop screen lit up, a small window popped up.

’Here we go again...’
’Every ti I turn on my laptop, this window pops up.’
’I don’t know who this hacker is, or how ’they’ found . No matter how many tis I change my IP address, this window appears the mont the laptop boots up. The only thing I can ever do is close it.’
’After I close it, a second window pops up.’
System Prompt: If you need help, you are welco to contact us. May your wickedness be boundless.
’This window only stays on screen for three seconds before disappearing on its own.’
