Tang Wei glanced at Yang Ying not far away. Seeing her frown, he cursed inwardly. ’Are these little bastards pigs? Stupid pigs, at that. They can’t even pretend to be decent. In front of a beautiful woman, you’d think they could at least rein in their disgusting habits a little!’
’They’re dragging down to their level. Damn it, I’ll teach them a lesson after this is over. Even if you’re going to be a scoundrel, you should at least be a cultured, well-dressed one.’
Hu Jing knew her opponent’s goal wasn’t as simple as just harassing her. He wanted to provoke her, to disrupt her state of mind. Hengshan Hall definitely didn’t get to where they were today just by acting like hooligans.
She suppressed her opponent with one Fire Talisman after another. While a Talisman Cultivator’s Fire Talismans consud less Elental Power than the attacks of Sword or Bow Cultivators, they were used in much greater quantities. The cost was unsustainable over a long fight, especially against a Body Cultivator.
Her opponent knew this as well. Wu Dongjin was deliberately provoking her, goading her into desperately using her Fire Talismans. The mont her power was spent would be his chance to do as he pleased.
If it weren’t for the previous two matches, he wouldn’t need to be so cautious. But as things stood, this was a battle he had to win. Otherwise, his boss would never let him off the hook. He couldn’t afford to be careless.
Under Wu Dongjin’s aggressive assault, she, as a Talisman Cultivator, had no choice but to continuously release Fire Talismans to resist the pressure—a strategy akin to drinking poison to quench one’s thirst.
At Hu Jing’s current Life Mark Level, no matter how talented she was, she couldn’t bring her full potential to bear against an opponent like this.
Wu Dongjin relaxed. Looking at the panting beauty, he was certain she had no more tricks up her sleeve.
His Double Scythes suddenly whistled through the air as he threw them, spinning toward Hu Jing in a deadly arc.
The Double Scythes were connected by a thin chain. Talisman Cultivators were inherently weak when it ca to mobility, and Hu Jing was a Pill Cultivator on top of that. Even a Sword Cultivator would have a headache dealing with Wu Dongjin’s sudden attack.
But Hu Jing simply gave a faint smile. With a flick of her wrists, two white Talismans appeared in her hands.
POP... POP...
The Flying Scythes, which had seed like a guaranteed kill, were knocked straight out of the air. A Fire Talisman indeed couldn’t have broken their spinning montum, but that didn’t an other Talismans couldn’t.
Ice Soul Talismans!
The Hengshan Hall disciples had to swallow the cheers that were already on the tips of their tongues. It seed they’d have to get used to this roller coaster of a match.
The freezing energy numbed Wu Dongjin’s hands for a mont, but it wasn’t enough to injure him. ’She can use two Talismans with completely opposite attributes at the sa ti?’
Fire Talismans were standard issue for Talisman Cultivators, but mastering other types was difficult. The Ice Soul Talisman’s offensive power wasn’t strong, but it could impede movent.
In the next instant, two Fire Talismans shot toward his face. Wu Dongjin hastily dodged, but two glints of cold light followed right after. The Fire Talismans were rely a feint; the real target was his feet.
POP... POP...
Wu Dongjin’s feet took two solid hits from the Ice Soul Talismans, and a numbing sensation imdiately spread through his body.
Wu Dongjin was furious now. He yanked back his Double Scythes and stared daggers at Hu Jing. His feet were numb, but he still had feeling in them. The Ice Soul Talismans were of too low a grade, and combined with Hu Jing’s weaker Elental Power, they couldn’t completely immobilize him.
"This Junior Sister is quite impressive. Her fate holds both water and fire—a very rare Five Elents Vein."
Mingren smiled faintly. "I never expected that while Thunderlight Hall has no decent Body Cultivators, they’d produce such an outstanding Talisman Cultivator."
Being able to use two Talismans of completely opposite attributes at the sa ti was proof enough of Hu Jing’s talent.
"Unfortunately, Thunderlight Hall is still lacking. She can’t win this battle with just Fire and Ice Soul Talismans."
Yang Ying smiled, gazing at the calm girl in the arena. ’I wonder what it would take to make her lose that composure,’ she thought.
As they spoke, Wu Dongjin blocked all of Hu Jing’s Fire and Ice Soul Talismans. Although the cycle of freezing and burning was extrely unpleasant, he hadn’t taken any substantial damage. anwhile, it was obvious that the feeling in his feet was gradually returning to normal.
Swinging his Double Scythes, he pressed nacingly toward Hu Jing. He wasn’t going to dodge anymore; getting tricked again would be a huge loss of face. Besides, her Fire and Ice Soul Talismans couldn’t really hurt him.
Hu Jing kept retreating, the speed of her Fire Talismans barely keeping up. Of course, Wu Dongjin wasn’t having an easy ti of it either. Taking attacks head-on with his body was painful, even for a Body Cultivator.
But he was already getting very close to Hu Jing. By now, Wu Dongjin’s face was beaten almost beyond recognition.
"Damn woman, I’ll skin you alive!"
Wu Dongjin had been driven completely berserk. Swinging his Double Scythes, he unleashed a Body Cultivator’s signature ultimate skill—Critical Strike!
A Body Cultivator’s Life Mark had no combinations; they pursued only the refinent of the body through Elental Power and maximum damage output in their attacks. It was a simple and brutal path. A Critical Strike was the instantaneous, explosive release of all that power.
It was also a Body Cultivator’s most terrifying killing move.
Facing the Critical Strike, a brilliant light finally flashed in Hu Jing’s perpetually calm eyes.
With a flick of her right wrist, a Fire Talisman and an Ice Soul Talisman appeared in her hand, while in her left, an Array Combination Talisman materialized.
Almost simultaneously, the three Talismans shot toward Wu Dongjin.
Wu Dongjin’s face, already looking like he’d crawled out of a coal pit, twisted into an even more ferocious snarl. "Die!"
’Does she fucking think these garbage Talismans can actually kill soone?!’
After throwing the three Talismans, Hu Jing abandoned all defense. She no longer had the strength to dodge. It was victory or death!
Success or failure would be decided in an instant.
BOOOOOOOOM!
The sudden, massive explosion was followed by a powerful shockwave, sending the unprepared Hengshan Hall disciples nearby tumbling head over heels.
When the shockwave reached Lingyin Hall’s area, the Lingyin Four Tigers prepared to act, but Li Tianyi took a single step forward. The blast wave crashed against him as if hitting a mountain and instantly dissipated.
Tang Wei fiercely swung his arm, batting the shockwave aside. ’Looks like more damn trouble,’ he thought.
The mbers of Flying Phoenix Hall remained perfectly still, and the shockwave automatically parted around them, rolling harmlessly past.
Things were even simpler over at Thunderlight Hall. Ma Tian’Er yelped for help, and Red Roar simply stood in front of them like a small mountain, reducing the shockwave to a re gust of wind.
When the dust settled, Hu Jing couldn’t hide the shock in her heart. ’No one would believe this, but I’ve failed at this countless tis. This was my first ti using it in a real battle, and only because my back was against the wall. I can’t believe it actually worked.’
Wu Dongjin had been completely obliterated, looking as if he’d been savaged by an entire army.
The arena fell deathly silent. Everyone stared, their eyes wide as saucers. The Hengshan Hall disciples didn’t know whether to scream curses or just keep their mouths shut.
What kind of Talisman was that?
That thing was lethal!
Mingren, however, just smiled. "Fourth match, Thunderlight Hall wins. Their record is now two wins and one draw."
"Alright! We won another one!" Ma Tian’Er, not caring where she was, imdiately jumped up and cheered before rushing over to hug Hu Jing.
Seeing such a pri opportunity, Zhang Xiaopang also kicked up his heels with a whoop of joy and charged forward. However, before he got close, he saw Hu Jing brandishing a Fire Talisman in her hand, which scared the fatty into a screeching halt.
"Junior Sister Hu, what a powerful Combined Talisman," Mingren said. "I must ask for your guidance on it when I have the chance." Clearly, as a master Talisman Cultivator himself, the man was deeply impressed.
If Hu Jing had been at the seventeenth or eighteenth layer of Elental Power, unleashing such might would have been rely decent. But for her, at the Twelfth Layer at most, to use a Combined Talisman with this much power... tsk, tsk, that was another matter entirely.
It was worth noting that Mingren had said he wanted to "ask for guidance," not "test her skills."
