Neji, who had been calm all this ti, for so reason seeing the reaction and hearing the words of Rei, felt imnse anger. He felt like Rei was mocking him. He wanted to have a fight with him right here and now, but he knew that the mont he did that, he would be disqualified.
"Hmph! I will see you in the next round." Neji declared before leaving, while Naruto was in full battle mode and fight, it was Lee who ca in and said that ti would soon co for that.
Rei anwhile helped Hinata with basic dical ninjutsu and mystical palm. This surprised everyone present and looked at him with big eyes.
"What? My mother is a dical ninja, you don't think I live and sleep at ho all day, do you?"
Guy, Hayate and Ibiki who were present looked at Rei as so kind of monster that seed to co out of a normal household. They knew that Rei didn't co from a known clan, but while being a normal kid, he was quite the genius.
Guy was the first to acknowledge this and gave him thumbs up while speaking the power of youth. Yeah sure, Night Guy, whatever you say.
Next was the fight between Gaara and Lee.
"Sasuke, Sakura, Naruto.. Watch this fight closely.. You will see so amazing things.." Rei said as he ca back to the viewing platform with Naruto.
"Eh? Him? The bushy brow?" Sakura asked, as she was confused along with Sasuke. She didn't understand why Rei would label the fight as interesting and even amazing.
"Sakura.. Don't ever look down on anyone because of they look. Often tis, so of them are the most dangerous. Never judge a book by it's cover." Rei said and the last sentence Rei spoke in English which only they could understand. Of course none of the others outside of Team 7 could hear them.
Sasuke never misjudged the words of Rei but he was also skeptical about Lee. He had already known that Gaara was strong, but the bushy brow? He wasn't so sure but he decided to follow the gaze of Rei anyways. And he was interested in Gaara too.
And then their whole world ca to a halt when Lee let go his heavy braces, it was then everyone understood that Lee wasn't normal at all. He was so fast that they couldn't catch his movent.
Rei's action was a technique and it was for that reason he was fast. But Lee was naturally fast. This boggled the mind of everyone. Sasuke had once asked Rei of why he was always interested in Taijutsu when he knew so many jutsus now, and Rei replied that body strength would always be important, because that was the last line of defense.
Now they got to see a glimpse of soone who took their bodies to new heights. They thought this was it for Lee but they were so wrong. When Lee opened the three gates, it was like a whole new world for everyone present.
They also saw Gaara's ability and suffice to say they were impressed. They had never seen anything like this.
"I.. I want to learn this technique.." Naruto was just awed.
"If you want to die early then sure." Rei nodded with all sincerity.
"What?" Sasuke and others asked.
"You think maintaining that kind of power is easy and has no strain on body?" Rei asked. These words stumped them and gave them a reality check. The use of gates couldn't be sustained for a long ti and thus at the end after Lee did the finishing move, he was all but collapsed while Gaara still had gas in his tank.
The mont Gaara raised his hand, quite a bit amount amounts of sand surged forward. It moved directly toward Lee and this ti there was no strength left in Lee's body to dodge.
Every jonin almost moved instinctively but they couldn't as it was supposed to be a death elimination, and Guy was ready to stop this whole farce as Lee was his greatest asset, but soone else moved faster.
BOOOOOM.
A powerful gust erupted through the arena. The sand scattered violently and large portions of it were blown away before they could reach Lee. Everyone just froze because standing between Lee and Gaara was Rei.
The entire arena exploded into noise.
"What is he doing?!"
"He entered the arena!"
"That's interference!"
Even Hayate looked stunned. Nobody had expected a participant to jump into an active match. Team 7 couldn't believe their eyes.
anwhile Lee looked barely conscious. His body was already giving out. Rei glanced at him briefly before turning toward Gaara. Then he looked toward the proctors and jonins.
"What?" Rei asked calmly.
The mont Rei appeared in front of Lee and blasted away the incoming sand, the entire stadium had already erupted. Even now Hayate looked completely caught off guard because nobody expected a participant to jump into an active match.
The uproar only grew larger when Guy himself landed beside Lee a second later and imdiately checked his condition. The expression on his face told everyone everything they needed to know. His body was pushed beyond its natural limits and even remaining conscious looked difficult. The fight had already ended long before Rei interfered.
"Rei! Return to your position imdiately!" Hayate shouted. He wasn't even sure what rule he was enforcing anymore because technically Rei had interfered in an official match. At the sa ti, technically speaking, Lee was already defeated. The whole situation was becoming a headache.
anwhile Naruto, Sakura and Sasuke were looking at the arena with wide eyes. Rei always seed like soone who would never interfere unless he needed to, and that was always been his motto, so why now? They couldn't understand. Especially for soone they hardly knew.
Kakashi and Guy looked ready to speak on his behalf if things escalated further, but before either of them could say anything, Rei simply looked around the stadium and spoke in the most casual tone possible.
"What exactly is the problem?"
"The problem is that you interfered with an official match!" one of the proctors shouted.
"And?" Rei asked.
The response made several people choke.
"And?" Hayate repeated in disbelief.
"Lee already lost." Rei replied while pointing toward the injured genin. "The mont Gaara survived that attack, the fight was over. Look at him. He can barely stand. If I hadn't stepped in, all that would've happened is Gaara crushing soone who was already defeated."
Silence spread throughout the arena.
"It's a death elimination match. Nobody should interfere regardless." It was the sound ninja proctor, who in real was Orochimaru, said. He wanted to see what would this amazing guy do to get out of the situation, and he would do everything to make Rei the villain.
This guy made his initial plan fail, and now seeing Rei in a pinch made him all but happy, but the next statent which Rei gave made him stumble.
"If everyone is that upset about it, then just disqualify ."
The entire stadium froze. Naruto looked like he had been struck by lightning. Sakura's jaw dropped.
"...What?" Hayate asked.
"I said disqualify . Or don't. It doesn't matter." Rei shrugged his shoulders. "I'll voluntarily forfeit the third round if that makes everyone feel better."
This ti even the jonins looked stunned.
"ARE YOU INSANE?!"
"REI!"
"You can't just quit!"
"Why not?"
The answer was so imdiate that Naruto almost forgot what he wanted to say. anwhile Sakura had finally recovered from her shock.
"Because you earned that spot!"
"It's a title." Rei replied. "People here are way too obsessed with titles."
Those words imdiately offended a large number of shinobi.
"A chunin rank isn't just a title!" sobody shouted.
"Really?" Rei asked. "Let's say Kankuro here becos a chunin in the future and I'm still technically a genin. Then let's say I fight him afterward and win. Wouldn't that be far more embarrassing for everyone involved?"
Kankuro nearly fell off the railing.
"WHY AM I THE EXAMPLE AGAIN?!"
"Because I fought you recently."
"I DON'T WANT TO BE THE EXAMPLE!"
For the first ti, a few people in the audience actually laughed despite the tension. anwhile Rei continued speaking as if he hadn't just insulted half the shinobi system.
"Strength doesn't magically increase because sobody gives you a vest. If sobody stronger beats you, then they beat you. The rank doesn't suddenly protect your pride."
The uncomfortable part was that nobody could imdiately argue against him. Even several jonins looked annoyed because there was a certain amount of truth in what he was saying.
anwhile Guy had finally carried Lee away and even he spared one last complicated glance toward Rei. The kid had broken the rules and probably saved Lee from a worse injury. But in all of this, Gaara was finally one his feet. He looked beyond angry.
"He was mine to kill? Who are you to stop ?"
"Oh! For you to kill? Who are you? God?" Rei mocked Gaara and this made Gaara more angry and sand started to crawl towards Rei, and he wasn't fazed at all.
