Liam’s POV

"By her side," I whispered under my breath while standing in the middle of the kitchen for the past ten minutes.

After hearing Anastasia’s unexpected request, I froze and nodded then left the room, only to stay in the kitchen and panic internally.

If I can take Caleb’s place, that ans I will be able to escort my mate everywhere and anywhere.

I bit down my lip, as a wide grin ford on my face while heading back to my room.

I did my best not to think of last night because I knew my brain would automatically rember what Anastasia said this morning.

This is why I decided that it would be better if I just pretended like nothing happened.

Although it is hard, it’s still the right thing to do especially in tis like these.

Our pack could get attacked at any ti and our head alpha is sick, In addition to all this, there is sobody who wants to hurt her in our pack.

That person either lives in the packhouse or is one of the people who has the freedom to co into the packhouse without anyone suspecting them.

There are over a hundred people who live in the packhouse, so finding them will be a bit hard, but I know I will not be able to sleep until I find them.

Also, I need to keep an eye on my mate’s room because I don’t know if that person will strike again and try sothing.

By looking at the fact that Anastasia can not even stand without getting dizzy, I doubt she would be able to defend herself again as an alpha.

I assud it was an alpha since the packhouse is mostly filled with alphas.

I decided to clean my room and take the dirty bedsheets and clothes to the laundry room.

When I finished that, I headed to the kitchen in order to make dinner for my mate and also to talk with Claire.

Claire knows everyone here and sohow knows everything that’s going on in the packhouse, so I don’t think there is a better person here who can actually find the person who tried to kill my mate.

"Hey, Claire. How are you?" I asked right after I stepped a foot inside the kitchen, gaining the female alpha’s attention.

She dropped whatever she was doing and turned around to face with a grin on her face " Doing great. How was the practice by the way? I did not ask you earlier."

I filled a glass with water and shrugged it down, satisfying the thirst that I felt after cleaning my room " Good. Great actually. I loved it."

I paused to look around in order to make sure nobody was there before speaking again "I was wondering, did you perhaps notice anybody going to the alpha’s room? Last night."

Claire humd, she looked like she was thinking and replaying her mories " No, I think just Caleb. Why are you asking? Also, what’s wrong with the alpha? Why did she suddenly lock herself up in her room?"

I can not tell her.

I trust Claire and all but by looking at how Anastasia is locking herself up in her room, I could tell that she did not want anybody to know about her condition.

And to be honest, I think that it will be better to keep this matter as low-key as possible, because considering how fast news spreads all over our pack, I’m sure it will not take much ti to be delivered to the pack that’s trying to attack us.

Letting them know that our head alpha’s inner wolf is gone and she is too weak to fight will be the stupidest decision in this lifeti because right now is their best opportunity to attack and actually succeed in taking over our pack.

" I have no idea. She seems mad. You know as usual." I answered vaguely, the fact that Anastasia is usually closed off and acts unexpectedly angry almost every day, was the reason why Claire believed instantly without asking any more questions.

I started making dinner for my mate while deeply thinking about the wolfsbane in the wine bottle.

There is no way Caleb was behind it.

I know I kinda hate this guy because he gets to be around my mate more than I do, but I also know that Caleb has been her personal guard for the longest ti.

If he wanted to hurt her sohow he would have done it years ago, not to forget that he is probably one of the most loyal pack mbers.

So that ans he can not be on my suspect list.

Unfortunately, Claire could not help since she did not notice anyone going to my mate’s room.

I sighed in frustration because deep down there I felt lost since I didn’t even know where to start.

-One Month Later:

It has been a month since my mate got poisoned.

We were right, even when the doctors ca back the next day with the test, they found a large amount of wolfsbane in her system.

Apparently, those doctors did not know much about how wolfsbane affects a true blood’s body and were shocked by the fact that she is still alive.

Anastasia was nice enough to explain to them how her wolf sucks all that poison to save her life, but the only con to that was the fact that her wolf had to stay in a coma for a couple of weeks to gather her strength and co back again.

The doctors kept coming back every two days to check up on her, and I kept making her three als every single day.

What made so happy was the way every ti I made her breakfast, Anastasia would ask for specific things that she wanted to make for her next.

She would choose which sauce and even ask what she wanted to eat exactly for lunch and dinner.

I gave her my phone number and sotis, she would call and ask for a snack in the middle of the night.

I an yeah most people would have been annoyed by that since nobody likes to be woken up from their deep sleep at night.

I don’t like it either, but each ti I was sleeping soundly, and heard my phone ringing, I jumped to grab it from the nightstand like a teenage girl who finally received a ssage from her crush.

The way my heart starts racing when I pick up the call only to hear Anastasia’s low sleepy voice on the phone, always makes go to bed hoping that she will call .

This month, almost every day I get to sit with her in her room until she finishes her snack and doses off.
