Now reading: The Obsidian Core from Infinite Evolution: The Prodigy Beyond Limits, a Action novel by AetherNova.

The deeper Kai ventured into the volcanic highway, the narrower the canyon walls beca, twisting inward until the open, ash-choked sky was replaced by a ceiling of jagged black stalactites. The sulfurous air grew so dense it vibrated with a low, visible orange haze, and the floor transitioned from slick volcanic glass to unstable crags of raw obsidian that cracked like brittle ice under his boots.

He had long outpaced the regular hunting grounds assigned to the other first-year students. Up here, in the unmapped subterranean throat of the Obsidian Jagged Crags, the ambient mana didn't just drift—it pressed against the skin like heavy, humid water.

[System Notice]

Extre Mana Density detected. Local elental active skills face a 10% casting delay.

Innate Skill 'Void Shroud' remains unaffected due to primordial classification.

Kai ignored the warning, his gaze fixed on a massive, hollow cavern ahead. The center of the cavern was dominated by an imnse lake of bubbling, sluggish magma. But what caught his attention wasn't the molten rock; it was the titanic, crystalline structure protruding directly from the center of the lake.

It was an Obsidian Core—a localized heart of the dungeon's prival energy, pulsing with a deep, rhythmic violet light that matched the frequency of his own system interface.

[Alert: High-Density Evolution Catalyst Detected]

Entity: Unrefined Rift Nexus Core (Tier-1 Restricted)

Strategic Value: Critical. Absorption will yield massive Evolution Points and accelerate Class Path Synthesis.

Kai’s violet eyes flared. In the public records of the empire, ruining or draining a dungeon's core was strictly forbidden, punishable by permanent mana cauterization or execution. A drained core ant the dungeon would destabilize, collapsing the rift and cutting off the academy's supply of harvesting materials for months.

But Marcus Vance had manually scrubbed Kai's tracking array to isolate him for an assassination. There were no caras here, no survival badge trics broadcasting to the administrative board, and no observers.

"You cleared the ledger for , Marcus," Kai murmured, a dark, completely unbothered smile pulling at his lips. "It would be a waste not to take advantage of it."

Before he could take a step toward the magma lake, the molten surface erupted.

ROAR!

A column of white-hot lava shot thirty feet into the air, splashing violently against the cavern ceiling. Out of the bubbling depths erged a monstrous entity that dwarfed the Ashen Orcs he had slaughtered earlier. It was a quadrupedal colossus forged entirely from interlocking plates of magma-veined obsidian rock. Its head was a faceless, jagged slab of crystal, and its four massive pillars for legs ended in molten hooves that lted the stone wherever they stepped.

[Entity: Obsidian Core Guardian - Magma Golem]

Rank: D-Rank Boss (Level 10)

HP: 1,800 / 1,800

MP: 400 / 400

Strength: 42

Agility: 18

Endurance: 50

Skills: Volcanic Slam, Molten Carapace, Tremor Stride.

Fifty points of Endurance. Forty-two points of Strength.

This was the true apex predator of the Tier-1 Restricted Zone. A Level 10 D-Rank boss possessed statistical trics that normally required an entire raid party of fully awakened Level 15 hunters to systematically wear down over hours of calculated rotation. Its rock-solid carapace was functionally immune to standard slashing weapons.

The Golem detected Kai's presence instantly. It slamd its two front pillars into the ground, executing its Tremor Stride.

BOOM!

A violent localized earthquake rippled through the cavern floor, shattering the obsidian crags beneath Kai's feet into a chaotic ss of shifting, razor-sharp debris. The uneven ground threatened to throw off his balance, making him an easy target for the follow-up.

Without a mont's delay, the Golem opened its rocky torso, revealing a swirling furnace of pure magma within. A concentrated torrent of liquid fire spewed from its chest, wide enough to engulf the entire path Kai was standing on.

Kai’s Eye of the Primordial Sovereign didn't look at the fire; it tracked the precise micro-second the Golem’s core exposed itself during the casting animation.

Aero-Glide.

The runes on his Tempest Stride boots flared into an intense, blinding azure glow. Kai didn't just slide laterally—he executed a sequential double-dash mid-air, his body blurring across the ruined, shaking ground with a velocity that defied the 15% gravity suppression of the rift.

The torrent of magma incinerated the stone path he had occupied a fraction of a second prior, lting the solid obsidian into liquid slag. But Kai was already gone, having circled completely around the periter of the firestorm to approach the monster's left flank.

He closed the distance instantly, his effective Agility of thirty-four making him look like a dark streak against the orange glare of the cavern.

"Let's see how dense that stone really is," Kai cold-muttered.

He gripped the Desolation Blade with both hands, channeling his entire effective Strength of thirty-five into a heavy, vertical downward cleave. He didn't aim for the thick main torso plates; his system vision had highlighted the microscopic stress fractures running along the Golem's rear knee joint, caused by the imnse weight of its own massive fra.

CRUNCH!

The cursed obsidian steel struck the glowing fracture line. The impact was deafening, sending a visible shockwave of compressed air rippling through the cavern. The Desolation Blade's unique structural density, combined with Kai's bloated Strength, forced the blade through the rock-hard exterior.

A massive chunk of the Golem's obsidian leg shattered off, spraying molten shards across the floor.

[Target Status]

HP: 1,520 / 1,800 (Crippled: Left Rear Joint Damaged)

The Magma Golem let out a screech of grinding stone, its massive body tilting violently to the left as its balance faltered. Furious, it spun its massive torso, its long, crystalline arm sweeping backward like a wrecking ball to flatten Kai into the wall.

The attack was fast, driven by forty-two points of raw Strength.

Kai didn't attempt to run back. Instead, he utilized the montum of his previous swing to drop low, sliding completely beneath the Golem's massive belly. As he glided under the molten furnace of its core, the heat singed the outer layer of his black cloak, but his twenty points of effective Endurance kept his skin from blistering.

While sliding face-up beneath the beast, Kai thrust the Desolation Blade directly upward into the soft, unarmored lava reservoir beneath the Golem's chest.

SIZZLE!

The blade sank eight inches into the molten core matrix. The passive skill Life Drain triggered with a violent, unprecedented intensity, but it didn't draw blood—it began to actively siphon the dense, compressed prival mana directly out of the Golem's animating spark.

[System Notice]

'Life Drain' is siphoning Core Mana. Target's chanical defense reduced by 15%.

Stolen energy converted to temporary HP buffer.

The Golem convulsed, its molten carapace flickering erratically as its internal energy loop was forcibly disrupted from within. Kai slid out from underneath the thrashing monster, kicking off its remaining back leg to vault backward onto a stable platform of stone.

The boss was heavily damaged, its movents turning sluggish as its HP bar steadily ticked downward under the passive drain of the cursed weapon. It turned its rocky head toward him, its crystal plates glowing red-hot as it prepared to detonate its own Molten Carapace in a final, suicidal area-of-effect blast.

"I don't think so," Kai said calmly.

He stood perfectly straight, his right hand slowly pulling back his blade into a classic imperial lunging stance, but modified by the compressed, hip-locking form Elena had beaten into him over the last three hours. He took a deep breath, focusing his mind on a single point at the very center of the Golem's exposed, cracked chest plate.

The azure lights on his boots flashed one final ti.

Aero-Glide.

Kai launched forward like a kinetic railgun projectile. He didn't execute a wide, flashy swing. He compressed his thirty-five Strength and thirty-four Agility into a single, devastating three-inch thrust, exactly as the Grand Duke's daughter had instructed.

BOOM!

The tip of the Desolation Blade struck the center of the cracked chest plate. The concentrated kinetic force didn't just pierce the rock; it shattered the entire frontal carapace of the Level 10 Boss into flying shards of gravel. The blade buried itself to the hilt, punching straight through the Golem's central mana core.

The Magma Golem froze mid-detonation. The orange glow in its veins turned a dull, lifeless gray, and the massive stone colossus collapsed inward, crumbling into a massive pile of inert volcanic ash and cooling slag.

[System Notice]

D-Rank Boss 'Obsidian Core Guardian' defeated.

Gained 1,200 EXP

Level Up! You have reached Level 7. All attributes increased by 2. Mana and HP fully restored.

Kai breathed out a slow, hot plu of air, his body tingling with the fresh rush of milestone attributes. He didn't waste a second looking at his updated status screen. He walked past the pile of ash, stepping directly onto the crystalline edge of the central lake toward the pulsating Rift Nexus Core.

He reached out his right hand, his palm pressing firmly against the smooth, cold surface of the massive violet crystal.

"Extract," Kai commanded, his voice echoing in the empty, silent cavern.

The SSS-Rank talent Eye of the Primordial Sovereign awakened fully within his pupils, turning his eyes into twin pools of deep, swirling violet light. The massive Obsidian Core shuddered violently. A second later, long, thick tendrils of pure, unrefined primordial mana tore themselves free from the crystal heart, rushing up Kai’s arm and flooding into his system like an overflowing river.

The cavern began to rumble as the walls cracked, the dungeon's foundational anchor rapidly dissolving into his veins. Kai stood unmoved amidst the collapsing cave, his interface screen exploding with a cascade of flashing purple notices.
