Now reading: The Path to Qingyun from Infinite Evolution: The Prodigy Beyond Limits, a Action novel by AetherNova.

The leap from the floating plateau carried Kai across a sea of golden clouds, depositing him onto the rugged, windswept slopes of the Qingyun Realm. Unlike the sterile stillness of his arrival point, this land was alive with the pulse of life. Massive, ancient trees with silver-veined leaves towered over paths carved from white marble, and the air here was saturated with a higher, cleaner concentration of Qi.

He was no longer in the wilderness; he was in the foothills of the great cultivation powers.

As he followed a winding mountain trail, he heard the faint, rhythmic clatter of hoofbeats and the murmur of human voices. Rounding a bend, he encountered a small caravan—a rchant wagon pulled by two sturdy, six-legged beasts, flanked by three youths dressed in simple, indigo-colored tunics.

They stopped when they saw him. Kai’s attire—the remnants of his world’s combat gear now patched with the strange, shifting fabric of the Ascendant Plane—stood out sharply against their traditional robes.

"A traveler?" asked the tallest of the three, a young man with a sword strapped to his back. He had a look of nervous excitent on his face. "You’re quite far from the lower plateaus, friend. The path to the Qingyun Sect gates is still a day’s travel ahead."

Kai slowed his pace, his eyes sweeping over them. They were in the early stages of Qi Refining, their internal energy flickering like candles in a breeze. They were harmless, but they were headed where he needed to go.

"I’m heading toward the sect," Kai said, keeping his tone neutral. "Is it an open enrollnt?"

The girl standing beside the swordsman laughed, though it was a kind, breathless sound. "Open? Hardly. It’s the seasonal trial. Hundreds of aspirants are heading to the main plaza. We’re from the Valley of Whispers, hoping to get at least a peripheral disciple spot."

"I am Lian," the girl added, stepping forward. "This is Jinhai, and that’s Tao. You don’t look like you’re from the local villages. That cloak… I’ve never seen a weave like it."

"It’s from a long way away," Kai replied, falling into step alongside their wagon. "I’m looking to understand the foundations of this world."

"Well, you’ve picked the right place," Jinhai said, puffing out his chest. "The Qingyun Sect is one of the few that accepts 'unbound' cultivators, provided you can pass the resonance test. They say the Sect Master can see the purity of your soul just by looking at your ridian flow."

Kai felt a subtle spike of tension in his chest. Resonance test. If they asured the 'purity' of one's Qi, his [Infinite Convergence Core]—which was essentially an anomaly of two different universes—might be viewed as a flaw or, worse, a threat.

As they traveled, the conversation shifted to the complexities of the Qi Refining Realm. He listened carefully as they discussed their struggles—the difficulty of opening the seventy-two ridians, the agony of the first condensation of Qi. They were obsessed with the technique of cultivation, whereas Kai was obsessed with the architecture of it.

[Infinite Convergence Core]

Status: Monitoring local cultivation dialectics.

Observation: Their thods are external. They pull Qi into the body; you pull the body into the Qi.

Advice: Do not reveal the full capacity of your core. Blend your signature to match the 'resonance' of the environnt.

Kai realized he had a choice: he could stand out and perhaps gain access to higher knowledge, or he could hide in the crowd and observe the sect’s hierarchy from the bottom.

"You look like you're thinking hard about it," Lian noted, glancing at him with curious eyes. "If you're worried about the trial, don't be. As long as you have a steady pulse and a clear path in your ridians, the Qingyun elders will give you a chance."

"A clear path," Kai repeated softly.

He didn't have a clear path. He had a core of infinite, fragnted complexity. But as he looked at the distant, soaring spires of the Qingyun Sect ahead, he smiled. If they wanted a test, he would give them one. He would play the role of the humble aspirant, all while he dismantled the secret of their cultivation thod from the inside out.

The climb had reached the foothills of the civilization he had been searching for. The real trial was about to begin.
