Now reading: The Gate of Trials from Infinite Evolution: The Prodigy Beyond Limits, a Action novel by AetherNova.

The caravan reached the base of the Qingyun mountain by dusk. The sight was imposing: a colossal archway carved from translucent jade, inscribed with thousands of shifting, glowing characters that pulsed in ti with the sect's ambient Qi. Hundreds of aspirants—so wealthy rchants' children in silk, others rugged travelers—were already gathered, forming a sea of nervous anticipation.

As Kai walked with Lian, Jinhai, and Tao, he felt the heavy, expectant atmosphere of the trial. The air here was dense, laced with a pressure that weighed on the soul. It was a sensory barrier; anyone with unstable or impure Qi would struggle to even step through the jade arch.

"Look at the inscriptions," Jinhai whispered, his hand white-knuckled on his sword hilt. "They aren't just art. They're a 'Resonance Array'. It reacts to your internal frequency the mont you cross the threshold."

Kai looked closely. His [Infinite Convergence Core] was already analyzing the array. It was a sophisticated filter designed to screen for specific energetic signatures—specifically, the 'Qingyun Harmonic'.

[Infinite Convergence Core]

Warning: Array scanning for 'Qingyun Resonance'.

Status: Signature mismatch detected.

Action: Initiating 'Frequency Cloaking'.

Stability: 0.04% -> 0.05% (Controlled Mimicry).

Kai adjusted his internal rhythm, not by suppressing his own power, but by folding it within a layer of the local Qi, creating a 'chaleon' effect. He wasn't lying to the array; he was rely speaking its language.

"Next," a stern, robed Elder bood from the gate.

Tao went first. He stepped through, his body trembling as the jade arch flared with a soft, pale blue light. He stumbled, gasping, but made it to the other side. "I did it!" he whispered, looking back at them with wide, joyful eyes.

Lian and Jinhai followed, their results similar—flickering, unsteady blues. They were accepted as peripheral disciples.

Then, it was Kai’s turn.

He stepped onto the threshold. The array didn't just scan him; it pushed. It was a ntal and spiritual shove, a demand to see the architecture of his soul. The pressure was intense, threatening to reveal the impossible density of his core.

Maintain the fold, he commanded his internal energy.

The jade arch didn't glow blue. For a heartbeat, it turned a deep, resonant violet—a color that hadn't been seen in the sect’s recorded history. The Elders sitting on the raised dais above the gate stood up, their eyes narrowing.

Kai didn't stop. He walked through, his expression as calm as if he were strolling through a garden. As he cleared the gate, the violet light faded into a neutral, nondescript white.

"Wait," the Elder who had spoken earlier stepped down, his robes swirling like smoke. "Your resonance... what was your primary cultivation thod before arriving here?"

Kai looked at the Elder, his face a mask of humble, rural ignorance. "I grew up in the wastes of the Obsidian Plateau, Elder. I only know how to breathe with the mountain."

The Elder squinted at him, sensing a truth, but unable to reconcile it with the violet flare. He gestured toward the inner courtyard. "An 'Obsidian-Breather.' Unusual, but effective. Go join the others. We will see if your talent is as durable as your origin."

As Kai walked toward the mass of aspirants, he felt the gaze of the Sect’s higher-ups following him. He had passed the gate, but he had also made himself a target.

"That was incredible," Lian whispered, rushing to his side. "The gate turned violet! Do you know what that ans?"

"I'm just glad to be through," Kai replied, already scanning the sect's architecture for the path to the inner library.

He was inside. Now, the real work of dismantling their secrets could begin.
