"Enemies!" Zhang iling’s main body shouted over the comms channel at once.
But her warning ca a little too late. The enemy had launched their attack the very instant her clone was destroyed.
A shell, fired from one of the abandoned buildings, shot high into the air above the rcenary Corps before exploding like a firework.
"It’s a Purgatory Bomb! Find cover, now!" Fang Tianhe roared over the comms channel almost instantly.
To Lin Xinghai’s Perception, the waterlon-sized Purgatory Bomb split into over a hundred thumb-sized pellets when it exploded. Each pellet radiated a sense of danger no less potent than a Hand Cannon Bullet.
Clearly, this so-called Purgatory Bomb was an enhanced type of cluster munition. chas and Armored Vehicles could withstand it, but for personnel on foot, it was absolutely devastating.
Right now, half of the rcenaries were outside the Armored Vehicles. This was clearly the perfect ti for the enemy to use a Purgatory Bomb.
Seeing the munitions raining down from the sky, Lin Xinghai imdiately leaped off the roof of the vehicle. The most important thing for him right now was, of course, getting back inside the Armored Vehicle.
As he jumped, he scanned his surroundings. The rcenaries on guard outside demonstrated the adaptability of seasoned veterans. Those near the Armored Vehicles scrambled to get back, while those farther away sprinted directly toward the buildings on either side.
As long as they had so cover to block the shockwaves, their Combat Suits, combined with the Physique of the Optimized, would be enough to survive.
However, since the Wild Wolf rcenary Corps had launched the attack, it was never going to be that simple. Six missiles launched imdiately after.
Lin Xinghai recognized the six missiles at a glance—they were also Dongfeng-I man-portable missiles.
The six missiles locked onto six different targets: the four Armored Vehicles, as well as Fang Tianhe’s and Shen Han’s chas.
"Fuck!" Lin Xinghai couldn’t help but curse at the sight. The enemy didn’t just have good equipnt; they had a lot of it.
If he hadn’t invited the Mountain and Sea rcenary Corps, the enemy’s six missiles would have been a complete saturation attack. An ordinary rcenary corps would have had no chance of survival.
Of course, their current situation was still extrely perilous. Fortunately, Lin Xinghai had spotted the enemy from 500 ters out, which bought the team a precious sliver of ti.
As Lin Xinghai fell, he raised his twin guns. The mont the first two missiles entered his 330-ter Perception range, he instantly calculated their trajectories and pulled the triggers.
Lin Xinghai completed this entire sequence of actions in under 0.1 seconds. But in that short span of ti, the missiles had already traveled another hundred ters.
If he hadn’t broken his second Genetic Lock, which had drastically increased his reaction speed, he would never have had ti to aim and fire, even if he could predict the missiles’ trajectories.
But that was all he could do. He didn’t have enough ti to intercept the remaining four missiles.
Fortunately, he wasn’t the only capable one in the Heaven-Sundering rcenary Corps.
After Lin Xinghai fired, a much louder gunshot rang out. Shen Han had fired imdiately after him.
A slug from the Electromagnetic Railgun shot forth, freezing the very air in its path. Clearly, the power of this shot was far beyond what Lin Xinghai’s attacks could achieve.
However, great power alone wasn’t enough to intercept a missile. The most important factor was precision.
The mont Shen Han fired, Lin Xinghai used his Perception Power to instantly determine that the shot was off-target—it would miss the missile by a full two ters.
Lin Xinghai’s heart leaped into his throat. However, the outco was sowhat unexpected.
Shen Han’s slug exploded after flying 100 ters, transforming into a 10-cubic-ter cloud of ice crystals.
When the missile flew into the cloud of ice crystals, it froze solid and plumted to the ground.
Just like that, the threat from three missiles was neutralized. However, the remaining three had already closed to within 100 ters of the convoy.
Just then, an Earth Wall suddenly rose up, shielding the front of the convoy.
It was clearly Gao Mountain’s doing. Amplified by his cha, the Earth Wall was as imposing as a fortress wall.
But the Earth Wall had barely ford when a deafening roar announced its destruction. It crumbled into a shower of dirt, completely unable to withstand the missile’s impact.
Regardless, the wall had successfully stopped one missile.
Of the two remaining missiles, one was locked onto Fang Tianhe’s Heaven-Sundering cha, while the other targeted the last Armored Vehicle in the convoy.
As the missile targeting Fang Tianhe closed to within 50 ters of his cha, the Vibrating Giant Blade in its hand swung out in a flash. A black light swirled around the weapon, extending its edge into a blade of energy dozens of ters long that cleaved the missile in two.
In the next instant, a thunderous explosion erupted. A violent shockwave rolled out, but with dozens of ters as a buffer, it was no longer powerful enough to cause significant damage to the cha.
The only problem was the final missile, which was aid at the rear of the convoy.
Atop that Armored Vehicle was Roger, piloting his Speed cha.
But Roger lacked the ability to intercept the missile from a distance. He could only grit his teeth, raise his Giant Axe to block, and brace for impact.
BOOM!
With a violent roar, the heavy Armored Vehicle was nearly flipped by the intense shockwave. The cha standing in front of it was sent flying for dozens of ters, crashing through several buildings on the opposite side of the street before finally coming to a stop.
Though battered, the cha had survived. The Giant Axe had absorbed most of the damage. While various parts of the cha were damaged to different degrees, it hadn’t lost its combat effectiveness.
This all sounds slow in the telling, but from the mont the missiles launched to the mont the team intercepted them, everything happened in less than half a second.
And only then did the Purgatory Bomb’s payload finally rain down from the sky.
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!
A chain of fire and shockwaves turned the convoy’s position into a living inferno. Several rcenaries who couldn’t dodge in ti were hit by the shockwave from one explosion and thrown into the air.
Before they could even hit the ground, they were struck by the shockwave of another blast. Caught in the chain of explosions, their bodies were torn apart like rag dolls.
This single wave of attacks killed three rcenaries on the spot, and more than ten were injured.
"Counterattack! Launch all the Bee Bombs! Raze those buildings to the ground!" Having weathered the first wave of the assault, Fang Tianhe’s furious roar echoed over the comms channel.
