Michael’s face turned green as he listened to Roger.
The people he hated dealing with most were wily old foxes like this—experts at exploiting the Rules.
What made it even more of a pain was that Lin Xinghai had just recorded him, leaving behind incriminating evidence.
His expression flickered, but he finally said, "Filing a lawsuit is your business, but the fact remains that you trespassed into the Security Bureau."
"Guards! Take them away for interrogation. Get their signatures on a confession."
This was Michael’s turf, after all. At his command, security officers imdiately entered the room.
However, facing the rcenary squad led by Roger, they were far more courteous than usual, even using the word "please."
"Captain Luo?" one of the rcenaries called out softly.
Roger, of course, understood what they ant. He knew that with a single command, his n would dare to tear the Security Bureau apart right alongside him.
But that was clearly unnecessary. Now that they had confird Lin Xinghai was safe and they held the upper hand, all they had to do was follow procedure.
Otherwise, they’d be slapped with the additional charge of disrupting the Security Bureau. The resulting fine would likely more than double.
"We’ll go to the interrogation room. We just need to wait for the Corps Leader to handle things," Roger finally said to the n beside him.
Then he and his n followed the security officers to the interrogation room next door.
After watching Roger and his team being led away, Michael departed, his expression grim.
He was now filled with regret. He never should have let greed blind him and listened to Huai Feifu.
’He’s just a new rcenary. His rcenary Corps won’t care about him.’
’I’ve already had the Wild Wolf rcenary Corps put pressure on them. The Heaven-Sundering rcenary Corps won’t have ti to deal with this. We just need to make it an open-and-shut case.’
’It was all fucking bullshit!’
’Lin Xinghai had been in the Security Bureau for ten minutes, tops, before his rcenary Corps showed up. You call that not being valued?’
And from Roger’s attitude, he knew this was far from over.
As for the Wild Wolf rcenary Corps Huai Feifu had ntioned, Michael knew he couldn’t count on them. He didn’t dare to.
Right now, two things were most important: first, destroy all incriminating evidence against him, and second, contact the Morgan Conglorate imdiately.
Whenever he got himself into trouble, this was his standard operating procedure.
Michael had no doubt about the Morgan Conglorate’s ability to clean up his sses. But their help didn’t co cheap. He’d probably have to give up all the money he’d skimd this month just to repay the favor.
He had no idea, however, how far things had already escalated. A lowly security chief like him had beco a re pawn in a ga played by the powers that be.
Michael had just gotten back to his office when he heard a commotion outside, followed by the sound of heavy footsteps heading his way.
"Hm?" He frowned, but a mont later, he was secretly delighted. ’It must be those rcenaries,’ he thought. ’They must have gotten tired of the interrogation and started a ruckus.’
’The bigger the scene they make, the easier it’ll be for to get out of this.’
At this thought, he put down his wrist-mounted computer and opened the door to see what was going on.
What he saw, however, was a squad of fully ard soldiers.
The officer in command closed the distance in a few short strides and slapped handcuffs on him before he could even react.
"What’s going on? You..."
Before he could finish, the officer cut him off. "Chief Michael, we’ve received a report. You’re suspected of over a dozen cris, including embezzlent, accepting bribes, harboring criminals, and framing innocent people. You’re coming with us for questioning. And here is the arrest warrant."
Staring at the arrest warrant, Michael felt a wave of dizziness. At this point, even an idiot could see that sothing was terribly wrong.
The Military Departnt shouldn’t have gotten involved this quickly. And the list of cris on the warrant was horrifying—this was a takedown, plain and simple. They were out for blood!
"It’s a setup! I’ve been frad!" Michael yelled. "I’m with the Morgan Conglorate! You can’t just arrest without cause!"
"Save it for the military tribunal," the officer said coldly. "And don’t you worry. When the trial starts, we’ll be sure to notify the Morgan Conglorate so they can send soone to observe."
Hearing this, Michael’s body went rigid.
’Inviting the Morgan Conglorate to observe the trial? They’re completely unafraid!’
His mind was a complete blur as his body was instinctively pushed forward. At the end of the hallway, he saw a beautiful woman with a cold, elegant air about her.
"Officer Zhang, thank you for your tily intervention," the elegant woman said.
"We should be thanking you. It was your evidence that allowed us to catch such a major parasite within the Shelter," Zhang Yue replied.
Overhearing their conversation, Michael fixed his small, beady eyes on the woman. "Who the hell are you?"
The woman, however, didn’t even spare him a glance before turning to leave.
Just then, Roger erged from an interrogation room and called out to her, "Vice-Leader, Ah Xing is in this room."
Michael’s head was ringing. ’Did I really just ss with a rookie rcenary?’
...
When Lin Xinghai ca out of the interrogation room, the Security Bureau had been turned upside down.
The Military Departnt had taken complete control. The security officers were rounded up and being interrogated as if they were the criminals.
At the sa ti, he was t by Fang Tianhe and the others.
"Corps Leader, thank you," Lin Xinghai said with genuine gratitude.
If it weren’t for the Heaven-Sundering rcenary Corps backing him, it wouldn’t have been so easy to get out of this, even with the evidence he had. And he certainly wouldn’t have been able to put Michael behind bars.
"We’re all brothers in the corps. No need to be so formal. Besides, the rcenary Corps benefited from this too," Fang Tianhe said with a smile.
"Oh? How so?" Lin Xinghai asked, his face full of curiosity.
Fang Tianhe had nothing to hide, so he explained Shen Han’s deductions and the situation with the high-ranking official.
"Handling this would have been a bit tricky, but I never expected you to have recorded your conversation with him. I submitted the recording, and the higher-ups imdiately had the Military Departnt take action."
"Right now, the Military Departnt is tracking down mbers of the Axe Gang to collect evidence. This ti, Michael will be skinned alive, if he’s lucky. As for his position as chief, he can forget it. We’ve removed a cancer from the Shelter, and we’ll get the credit for it," Fang Tianhe said.
Only then did Lin Xinghai nod in understanding.
Afterward, Lin Xinghai gave a detailed official statent. He then said his goodbyes to the mbers of the Heaven-Sundering rcenary Corps and finally left the Security Bureau with Liu Miaomiao and the others.
