The group walked back toward their residence, but the won, who had been so cheerful and enthusiastic when they’d gotten off work, were now much more silent and reserved.
"What’s wrong?" Lin Xinghai couldn’t help but ask after they had walked a little further.
Hearing Lin Xinghai’s question, Liu Miaomiao forced a smile and said, "It’s nothing."
But no matter how he looked at them, Lin Xinghai didn’t believe the won were actually okay. The fact that they had just co from the police station imdiately made him imagine the worst.
His expression instantly hardened. "They didn’t... do anything to you in the interrogation room, did they? If they did, tell now. I’ll go and get justice for you imdiately."
"Michael is about to be removed from power, so if you were wronged, just say it. You don’t have to worry about any repercussions."
They would have been interrogated separately after entering the police station, so Lin Xinghai genuinely had no idea what the won had been through.
"Done sothing to us?" Liu Miaomiao was confused for a mont.
Wang Yao, standing beside her, understood his implication. "They wouldn’t dare. Their attitude was pretty hostile when we first went in, but they settled down once they heard we were official employees of the Governnt Hall."
The Governnt Hall’s authority is in no way inferior to the police station’s. And since they’re both in the Lower Level District, of course the Hall knows about the station’s shady business.
Even if an employee actually did commit a cri, the Governnt Hall would definitely send its own people to review the case thoroughly.
Besides, before they went into the station, Lin Xinghai had already filled them in, telling them he had notified the Heaven-Sundering rcenary Corps and that all they had to do was keep quiet.
So, after Liu Miaomiao and the others had been inside the police station for just over ten minutes, they discovered that the Military Departnt had taken control of the situation outside.
They didn’t even realize what had happened in the anti.
Liu Miaomiao finally understood what he was getting at, and her face instantly flushed. "Don’t worry, we’re all physically fine."
"Then why are you all so down? Is it because of what happened with the Axe Gang?" Lin Xinghai asked.
"Yeah," Liu Miaomiao nodded.
"Don’t worry. He’ll be locked up for at least five years. By the ti he gets out, you’ll have long since moved to the Middle Level District," Lin Xinghai reassured them.
"Actually... I just feel so useless," Liu Miaomiao finally said what was on her mind, and the other won all nodded in agreent. "If we could beco the Optimized, then when we’re in danger, we wouldn’t be used as leverage to put you in a vulnerable position."
Lin Xinghai was touched. He smiled and said, "Then you should just beco the Optimized sooner. Didn’t Huai Feifu give us compensation? It’s over 7,000, so that’s 1,400 Points for each of you. If you’re lucky, you could beco the Optimized pretty quickly."
The "luck" he was referring to was, of course, their Genetic Assessnt.
The won were touched, but they all shook their heads, insisting they couldn’t possibly take the Points. They said that not only had they not helped, but they had actually been a burden.
In the end, Lin Xinghai proposed a compromise: he would lend them the Points instead.
Only then did Liu Miaomiao and the others agree, but they didn’t take much, each accepting only 500 Points.
As official employees of the Governnt Hall, Liu Miaomiao and the others got a discount on Genetic dicine Liquid, allowing them to buy it for 100 Points a bottle. Of course, the monthly purchase limit was ten bottles.
And while those 500 Points could buy five bottles of Genetic dicine Liquid, it was still far from enough for them to beco the Optimized. But he didn’t press the issue.
’For an ordinary person, it would take about half a month to absorb five bottles of Genetic dicine Liquid. Once I run a few more missions and have Points to spare, I can help them again.’
The group changed their route. Instead of heading back to their dorm, they took advantage of the early hour and went to the Gene Center.
At the Gene Center, you could buy Genetic dicine Liquid from vending machines.
Of course, there were many places to buy Genetic dicine Liquid. The main reason the won wanted to go to the Center was to get a Genetic Assessnt.
Not everyone was like Lin Xinghai, who had already undergone a Genetic Assessnt before the apocalypse.
Back then, the technology for Genetic Assessnt was still underdeveloped and extrely expensive.
More importantly, a Genetic Assessnt wasn’t very aningful for ordinary people. It only beca a key tric if soone wanted to beco an elite athlete.
As a provincial Sanda champion, how could Lin Xinghai not have had a Genetic Assessnt?
Feeling a mixture of nervousness and anticipation, the won arrived at the Gene Center.
The staff had already gone ho for the night, but a few service robots were still on duty.
After presenting their Identity Cards to a robot and stating their purpose, the group was led to a dedicated testing room.
Inside the testing room were rows of upright coffins.
Ahem! Upright testing pods.
Yep, that’s right. The testing pods looked very similar to Hibernation Pods, only they stood upright.
Looking at the Genetic Testing Pods before them, the won grew even more nervous. Lin Xinghai could understand why. After all, a person’s Genetic Assessnt could truly determine their future.
So he simply stood to the side and waited quietly.
"I’ll go first!" After a minute or so, Wang Yao was the first to step forward.
"Good luck!"
"You’ve got this."
"Believe in yourself."
The other won chid in with what, in Lin Xinghai’s opinion, were aningless words of encouragent.
Wang Yao nodded, an expression of grim determination on her face as she walked toward a Genetic Testing Pod.
After she swiped her Identity Card, the translucent pod door slid open. Wang Yao strode forward on her long legs and stepped inside in a single motion.
The pod door closed, a green indicator light lit up, and then the countless instrunts integrated inside the Genetic Testing Pod activated and began to run.
On the external control screen, a progress bar steadily advanced: 10%... 20%... 50%... 100%.
After about three minutes, the progress bar hit 100%. The pod door opened automatically, and the screen displayed the Genetic Assessnt: C Level.
"Whoa!" A collective gasp of surprise echoed through the room.
When Wang Yao saw her Genetic Assessnt, she let out an excited shriek.
Genetic Assessnt was divided into six Levels: A, B, C, D, E, and F.
The vast majority of ordinary people only had an E or F Level Genetic Assessnt. Getting a D Level was already considered quite good.
A C Level, however, was definitely considered excellent.
Captains in the Heaven-Sundering rcenary Corps, like Roger and Wu Yan, only had C Level assessnts.
It was no wonder Wang Yao was so excited.
The remaining won, seeing Wang Yao’s results, seed to be inspired.
They entered the Genetic Testing Pods one by one and began their assessnts.
The three-minute assessnt didn’t take long. Soon, the Genetic Assessnts for Qin Zixue, Yang Yi, and Shen Yii were also complete.
Qin Zixue and Shen Yii both received a D Level assessnt, while Yang Yi’s was E Level.
With a D Level Genetic Assessnt, becoming one of the Optimized wasn’t difficult. In fact, many rcenaries were only at this Level.
As for an E Level assessnt, it wasn’t impossible to beco one of the Optimized, but it would require far more resources and a longer period of ti.
The other won offered so words of comfort to Yang Yi. Then, with everyone watching, Liu Miaomiao entered a Genetic Testing Pod.
